Sorry, don't take me seriously! Although I thought you were around university age for some reason, didn't realise you're actually at the stage where you have to be sensible with money jointly!

Here's a question for people on credit cards: I've basically never had one. I have a student current account that's never been in overdraft, my monthly contract gets paid each time without issues, but what's about it, so I probably have little, if any credit. What's the best route for me to go down in getting a credit card - stick with my bank and get a student one?

I'm not really looking to do anything other than put stuff on it and pay it off every month with my debit card, so I don't need huge borrowing limits, I just want to build up some credit.

Kill two birds with one stone; get yourself a credit card with cashback. It was the first thing I did when I discovered that my credit rating was horrible because I'd never been in debt (go figure) - if you're going to be spending on the card and paying it off in full every month, you might as well get some free cash while you're at it. :)

I always recommend Money Saving Expert for this sort of thing. They've got guides to credit cards for all sorts of purposes. And I'd suggest signing up for their email newsletter too - always some useful stuff in there.

Guys, a pre-engagement ring does not mean that Dave is engaged. He's pre-engaged. Whole different ball game. That's the kind of relationship status that Facebook doesn't recognise and that parents and friends will go "oooh... so you're not really engaged then?" :p

I was pre-engaged to my missus for about 7 years (since we both knew it was going to happen eventually). But it got to the point where she was fed up with my stalling tactics so I had to break out the big guns (and the credit cards...).

Yeah, what Jedeye just said. We're not even formally 'pre-engaged', that's just a term I used to describe that this is the very last ring before the engagement ring (as I buy my missus lots of jewelry). We both know we'll be getting married, we both know I'll be proposing at some point this year but nothing is formally set in stone yet. We joke that we're waiting for me to save up for the ring but it's not really a joke.

To be honest, I'm getting pretty excited. I reckon it's time to acquire the ring and book a holiday. It's been 7 years now (minus a small commitment wobble by me 2 years ago) and I love her more than ever. We're like little kids that can turn into grown-ups whenever is necessary.

Is that all I meant to you?!

Too many people I know have gotten married. And it's always the ones who I never expected to get married and I have my doubts about whether the marriages are really suitable for them or not (doubts I keep to myself entirely, of course). Marrying before you're 30 just seems wrong.

boy im feeling pretty lonely at the moment
you could join me in agonising about career choices if you want.

On that note, I'll be calling up a national media company cold tomorrow to try and obtain more information about it. I want to apply to do some work experience there but their website is unspecific about what exactly the Plymouth branch does, which makes writing a targeted cover letter really difficult. Does anyone have any pointers for etiquette and approach when requesting what amounts to a five-minute chat about someone's company?

Damn, I missed the window on proposing to Dave. Gutted.

7 years you say? well I guess I can give him another 1 1/2 years to get his act together.

Also, I am feeling old, sounds like most of the people in here are in Uni or around that age.

how much you on ?

I'm in a warehouse job my self earning just under 300 a week.

I get fucking depressed when I hear what other people are paid. I get this (but monthly) yet I'm a Wintel Engineer. But the way the salary is done here, is you don't get a jump when you move up the ladder to a new job, but your 6 monthly pay increases, are slightly increased instead.

As I skipped 2 better positions, I'm the lowest paid in my department and it'll take 2 years to play catchup (if everyone's pay is frozen). Fuck this system.

Maturity, bitches.
First day of March and the heat has come back in full force. Had to wear a suit today as well since I had an interview in the morning so by the time I got to work I was boiling.

The days go by fast, the radio is pumping loud all day from the roof speakers.

Whoah someone was killed outside the Army recruitment in Glasgow today. Place is all graffiti. Murders aren't uncommon here, but this was on Queen St, right next to George Sq, which is the centre of town..

Um. Then make sure you're looking for a new job? Find a new job, quit the old one, profit!

Dave, I hope my man talks about me in a similar fashion as to how you talk about your lady. D'aww, you guys!

Just popped in to cast my vote for ASDA/Tesco (though if I'm desperate will call into Sainsbury's as I walk past it every day on my way home from work).

Oh and Happy St David's Day UK Gaf

I'm leaving my work (web marketing specialist) next month. No other job lined up, and I don't really want one. I've saved enough money up to just train full time and work on my own personal projects until at least January. I'm thoroughly looking forward to having a lot of time to myself to work on my own stuff for once. I aim to start my own business during the summer.

come down to falkirk this friday and come clubbing with me and my friends.

I've never had a drink with another gaffer

It's really tempting man, but I can't afford a trip to Falkirk for a booze-up, money's tight at the moment. Keep the invitation open and I'll pm you when I can!

Cindres

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
If you're stingey and have no pride, visit Waitrose at about 5.30PM on weekdays and hoover up all the reduced sandwiches, vegetables and bread.

I hear if I go at 9pm I can pick up super cheap meat and stuff too.

Congrats Dave! And good luck Cindres, that's the Driver San Fran guys, yeah? They seem like a good bunch of guys based on that game, hope you get in (and then deliver hot scoops to GAF, lol)

Yeah that's the Driver SF guys, they did all the Driver games and Stuntman. Gonna be meticulous as hell with my CV/Cover for this.

In my teens I worked at Iceland. Fucking loved it. And it was the place I met a lot of my close friends.

Um. Then make sure you're looking for a new job? Find a new job, quit the old one, profit!

It's not as easy as that though. Plus in this uncertain climate, it could be a bad move especially with the house, kid etc. This year, I do plan on getting a few exams under my belt so then when it comes to my annual review with the boss, I could push for a raise.
