Oh hey - Quan Chi's awesome original fatality is back? Have to buy this now. Explicitly.
The leg beat fatality was a classic. And Mileena's headbite fatality is straight gutter. Seems like they're making up for the last game and then some.

Alot of those fatalities are in previous games. It seems they are finally running out of ideas on how to kill people.

I love MK and also porn so I'd be fucking pissed if I lived there.
What the fuck does this shit have to do with anything, porn isn't banned here.

After careful consideration Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Australia have decided to appeal to the Australian Classification Review Board against the RC (Refused Classification) decision given to Mortal Kombat. After reviewing both the game play and the Board's original decision WBIE Australia believe the violence in the game is on par with numerous other titles readily available for sale in the Australian market. As such the company wants to exhaust all options to make the game available to Mortal Kombat fans in this country. An identical version of the game will be submitted for appeal.

You really should broaden your intellectual horizons beyond GAF.

Why For?

Banned
WB: "Here is Mortal Kombat for your perusal"

CB: "Mortal Kombat? Isn't that that game where people used to rip each others guts out and chop heads off in the 90s?"

WB: "Yeah, this is just a remake, but the other 6 games got in Australia just fine"

CB: "Hmmm...denied!"

WB: "Ooooook, how abooouuuut this version"

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Before MK was RC'd only the hardcore fans even knew about it.

Now, everyone does and it'll get through.

The process works.

I hope it works. But I think it'd help if everyone would also send their protest to Australian Classification Review Board. The more noise we make, the better it'd be.

While I know they won't, i'd like to know how GoW3 got pass their board while MK can't. GoW3 has a sequence where you see skin stretching as Kratos rips off a characters head and another where you see a persons face slowly disintegrate as Kratos punches him (you can see skin peeling away, teeth being knock out and his skull being cracked). That's not to say that MK isn't ultra violent also, but i'm not seeing how it's so much worse than GoW3.

I only want this to come out here because importing one of the packs with that tank of a joystick will be fucking PRICEY.

From AusGAF, but it's relevant here:

News? At least it means we'll be able to get MK quicker from NZ than from the UK (probably). Possibly also get the stick without being bent over for shipping costs.

Update. Hint: It's not good news :(

Fair enough and not surprising, MK9 would never pass a 15 rating in most countries. Now not having an 18 rating, that's some bullshit but then again that's not the classification board's fault.

True, although neither would an uncensored version of GoW3, but that's what it received in Australia. That's why this banning makes little sense.

OK yeah that's dumb.

Does GoW3 have nudity like the other two(not sure if both do as I haven't played much of them, I just know one of them does)?

Meh this really is not a big deal.

Most people will just import and get it for $50 less than the price it costs here in Australia

If you still buy from retail in this country your a complete sucker.

This, I had no intention of paying $110 even if it wasn't banned.

The Customs spokesperson said someone caught trying to import RCed games into Australia could expect a fine of up to three times the value of the product, or A$110,000, which ever is greater.
So if I understand this right, if I were to just mail Zaro fifty copies of Mortal Kombat, he would have to pay some astronomical fee?

Is Australia a banana republic now?

This is no different to the normal procedure. Gamespot contacted customs for a report, and customs said they'd seize copies they found. This is exactly what they do with every single RC'd and banned item they catch coming into the country. The response the gave is the exact response you'd expect them to give when asked.

They haven't made any special decisions specifically for this game. It's business as usual.

EDIT: The moment it was RC'd was the moment customs would seize imports. It's the same for every single RC'd game, movie, or anything else. That is how customs works here.

Apparently customs will seize imports of Mortal Kombat. So now we can't even import it. This is getting ridiculous.

How could they stop someone from buying it off eBay, unmarked, packed in a plain white envelope? Customs sure as hell isn't having someone hand open every single package coming into the country looking for dem evil Mortal Combats.

Why are you surprised? They're supposed to seize material that's been refused classification here. People have got away with importing such games in the past because there's always been a lax stance towards it as there's far more dangerous items Customs officers should be looking out for.

Although, in this case, it seems they'll be on the look-out for the game. I wonder just how high it is on their list? Is it worse than drugs? :p

Ditto.

They cant. What customs do is randomly check packages. As you can imagine there is a flood of packages coming into the country, so a vast majority never get checked. If your package does get checked it will arrive with a big yellow "OPENED BY CUSTOMS" sticker, and maybe a report. It's totally random, and they dont target anything really specific.

If they open a package and find a banned item, they seize it. This is what they do, and have done, with any item of the sort in the past. This is how the operate.

If you order an RC'd product and get caught, you will likely be issued with a warning, and you understandably wont recieve your item. There is also the risk of a fine, though I believe this is highly unlikely if it is a first offense.

There is no feasible way for customs to search every single package, videogame or otherwise, coming into this country. It is totally random, and more unlikely than likely, that your package will be searched.

I have imported RC material before. The last I ordered was Manhunt 2 for the Wii. It didnt get checked, and got through just fine. I have never had anything checked by customs, not even legal products I've imported. I've imported tons over the years, and nothing has been opened.

If you want to import, go for it. It is a gamble, but the situation is no different from how it has always been. You are importing material banned in the country. Whether it gets checked or not is 100% random. If they check it, they will warn you and seize the good. If they dont, you will recieve it. As someone else said on another forum, if you are really worried, organise for someone to gift wrap the item you want and send it through. If, on the off chance, customs do seize it and attempt to fine or warn you, you can claim ignorance as the product was a gift, and thus you had no idea what you would be recieving.

And even if they did happen to open your package and see it's Mortal Kombat, what are the chances the customs officer is even going to know that that specific video game is banned? Wouldn't they more than likely be like: "Oh, a dumb video game. Are there drugs in the box? No? Ok, it's fine"?

This is not a move targeting specific consumers who want to import the game. Honestly, I don't think they care about a few people importing it off of eBay or something. What they are saying is: "Hey Gamestop, Hey Bestbuy, Hey Whatever-game-stores-they-have-in-Australia, Hey Mom & Pop store, you are not allowed to send an order off for 100 copies of Mortal Kombat to be imported and sold in your store. If you do that, they'll be seized."

an enterprising gaffer could make some money relabelling copies of the games. A solid quality printer, custom adhesive labels, and american mortal kombat disls suddenly become "Xbox Kinnect Setup disk" or "Chromehounds"

It wont be off the top if their head. They'll run it on a system, see that it is banned, and seize it. If it gets opened, dont expect to get it.

It's not even that. It's a nothing situation. Gamespot asked customs, for some reason, what they'd be doing, and customs told them exactly what they will do; "The game is banned, so if we catch copies we will seize them". Its the same response they'd give if you asked them about any media, old or new, that has been RC'd.

This news is basically non-news. The moment the game was RC'd everything in that report applied.
