Funny that I was just asking about this during E3 in that Total War thread a while ago so I know I've been waiting for it to be official for a while now. This shit will be the end of all other TW games for me. Shogun 2 just makes me want Rome even more due to all the improvements in the series since the first Rome game.

Consider me as hyped as a poor commoner waiting for the main event at the Colosseum.

Gunpowder combat is so dull, I want to charge at the bastards. Rome & Medieval 2 had fantastic music, Empire was so disappointing musically (I've only played the demo of Shogun 2 and don't recall hearing any music).
And remember this above all, our Roman gods are watching. Make sure they are NOT ASHAMED!

Shogun 2 had some great music for charging at the enemy to but it was traditional Japanese music so if you only like European symphony music or something you may not be hyped up by it. There is a lot epic Banzai charging in Shogun 2 but there is also a lot of gunpowder usage. Especially with the new expansion being so modern.

What I hated about the last total war game was that every battle was the same. For some reason all my battles happened in the same castle next to a cliff with the back of it having a river with a little bridge over it. Made me lose interest soooo fast.

What would be the most awesome feature they could introduce is, that you could take over a single guy on the battlefield and fight with him in 3rd person / First person. Would be awesome.

Also (I know this is a dream that will not happen in my lifetime) have huge online battles of 1000+vs1000+ where each soldier is a different player. Damn I would fall in love with a game like that.

If they man up and fix the desynchronization errors that you receive in CO-OP Campaign, REGARDLESS of where the next Total War is set I'll buy it and so will a friend. Shogun 2 is amazing, love it, but it's tough love when after 15 hours of turns and almost conquering Japan you get a desync error that doesn't allow you to play anymore.

It seemed Empire only had one track to play during battles and it was unaffected by whatever was actually happening in the battle, for example Rome had separate tunes for deployment, mobilisation and combat and the specific music played depended on the battle's location on the campaign map (the Mediterranean music was fantastic). I may be banging on about the music a bit much but it really was a massive hole in Empire for me.

Smashed so many heads to this, never auto-resolve near the Med.

Excellent choice. I also agree 'bout the music in Empire, it felt very monotonous and flat, for lack of a better word. Certainly not as engaging as in other TW games.

Also, fuck yeah to this news. Hopefully 'tis true. Still have to beat my campaign in Shogun 2 (playing as Date clan)...

If you want examples then Shogun 2 had three groups of battle music. Deployment, Tension and Battle. With about four variations of each.

Deployment

"Formation" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDUu_eqY9sk

Tension, typically "meditation" style music.

"Now and Zen" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raXhdMU4avU

Battle, typically taiko drum music.

"Ona Hei" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_CntQQTK5E

Last one reminds me more of Rome than many others but they are all still composed by Jeff van Dyck.
