Think of being a kid again, it's like watching a funny show about video games.
For me, it's like the Nintendo / Sega 900 number hotline person made it big.
Think of being a kid again, it's like watching a funny show about video games.
makes me remember my own first exposures to racism and its definitely a loss of innocence, especially when you're a young child and everyone is so nice to you and you try to be so nice to everyone. it's sad, and I can relate, the disappointment is real.
I remember when I was a kid in the 80s and everyone thought Donald Trump was such an awesome guy with all his money and famous friends and his name all over everything, but then we all realized what a racist, sexist, piece of garbage he was and he just kind of disappeared in obscurity...or wait...god dammit.
The problem becomes that people like JonTron are given a platform to spread their hate speech, and it needs to be stopped. I'm not talking about throwing people like him in jail or anything, but Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and these type of companies need to step up and say, "Parents aren't going to let their kids use any of these type of services going forward if we allow this kind of hate speech on our platform, so it is in OUR best interests to not allow their voices to be heard through our service". I agree that parents need to be aware of what kind of crap their kids are watching, but there needs to be some level of corporate responsibility as well. I guess the answer is stop watching Youtube, stop using Twitter, and make it clear to these companies that until they ban racist, sexist, or homophobic content creators from posting things on their services (the same as they do with pornographic content creators), that they won't have the support of the rest of us. (Also, good luck with that).
I am old this will never understand how YouTube "stars" have legions of fans. Even some action figures wtf?!
Heck I'm sill in shock that there are "instagram models" who make a living off of it.
Internet and patreon changed the world.
She started to share her love for JonTron with her friends in school. She has a kind of innocent fanclub in her class
That's not too surprising, really. Preteens especially are drawn to anything edgy or "something their parents wouldn't like."I must be out of touch with what's trendy nowadays. Kinda absurd and amusing that Jon had such a following among the youth. He's too vulgar as an individual.
I really don't understand kids these days anymore
Wait... who was this? There's a YouTuber I watched who worked for RT, don't know if they do anymore, but they said nigger a lot. To 12 year old me, I was fine with it, thinking about it a few years later...I was not, at all.
Just read Kotaku's Facebook-post about Playtonic dropping JonTron, and damn if the comments don't show how fucking toxic the discourse has become in recent times. They're all going all in with the persecution-complex, complaining about the snowflakes-pc-police-SJW not tolerating other people's opinions.

Sorry about your cousin man. I used to watch JonTron a lot when I was just chilling on my couch with nothing better to do, but kind of hard to do that now.
Google leaves it in the hands of the creator. The creator chooses to monitize their own videos and even have a choice of the form of the ad(skipable, unskipable, banner, etc.) The advertisers don't normally choose what videos they are on be they can. You are correct though that most of it is handled by Algorithm. I assume he's with a network so ads would be handled by them. Why is google monetizing this stuff?
Do advertisers know?
If google would actually replace algorithms with humans they might see start to grow a spine and be more picky about how they dole out cash for views and then the worst of it wouldn't thrive.
Yes and no. These guys also craft what they show of themselves, similar to kayfabe in wrestling. You know their personalities, but you don't know them. It's work.As mentioned in other thread, YouTubers and streamers bank on their personalities, hell a lot of games media does these days too. There aren't many "Don't meet your heroes" moments when it comes to them because of how close the real person is to what you see on the screen.
Damn, this struck me. That hurt me just reading how hurt she is.She started to cry. She cried a lot.
"Why he doesn't like people different to him"
"Why he hates people from his own country"
"Why he hates black people"
KdinWait... who was this?
Send this story to Boogie and TotalBiscuit and Colin Moriarty (Who recently started following JT on twitter) and all the rest.
If you're a person with a platform, words have fucking power. Listen to Uncle Ben, you fucks.
The Super Best Friends got in trouble for this once by breaking kayfabe on camera and coming off way the wrong way. They apologized and made an effort to rectify it, though, hence why they still have fans.
Idk back in the early-mid 2000s we were watching Homestar Runner and Happy Tree Friends in the computer labs at schoolI really don't understand kids these days anymore
During the Mailbag, they accidentally left in footage, probably due to being swamped, of all of them shitting on a gift someone had sent, completely breaking happy attitude when they thought their footage was done recording and acting completely different in attitude. They later explained that because the gift was a weapon, and they were getting these constantly and couldn't transport or own too many of them, the weapon gifts were getting overwhelming and they should have been honest in the first place. When was this? Just out of curiosity.
On the bright side PBG already clocked JonTron ass a few months prior to this whole mess.
And people got MAD at him for coming after JonTron because "he is mean to him" or "he was talking about illegal aliens, not syrian refugees" and my favorite "he is just in the post-bromance break-up phase"
What do you mean? Sharing things they like?
Which is curious really.
There is still a large part of the gaming population who're laughably stuck in the 00s and refuse to accept that someone like JonTron might be an influential figure and why his vocal hate speech matters on a societal level.
Generations are growing up on this shit and it cannot be allowed to continue.
Your cousin probably shouldn't care so much about a random YouTuber.
I know, right? Half this forum was sporting 1up Never Equaled avatars after the GFW Radio and 1Up Yours shut down. And the Giant Bomb thread still gets a ton of love. Youtube and podcasting are a more intimate and personal medium, or at least feel that way given the way they're produced. You can definitely find personalities you really like, and over time grow to really like, respect, or fanboy out over them. It's not really hard to believe at all.
I know if I were twelve and I heard Adam Sessler was a giant racist I would've been really disappointed.
Your cousin probably shouldn't care so much about a random YouTuber.
Is it hard to understand that children, teens, young adults, or hell, ANY human being might like or care about a celebrity or other famous person? What you consider a "random" YouTuber isn't a random YouTuber to literally millions of young people.
do you remember the news reports of crying teenagers after take that broke up?
this is the equivalent for this girl.
I always thought, "man, when I am older with teenage kids I will totally know what's going on, I am so up to date", but damn, I am so out of the loop with all these youtubers. Only time I realize they exist is when there is some big news.
I really don't understand kids these days anymore
