It 50% of a flagship phone. There are other good, cheaper options too.

Yeah but those are super overpriced flagships.

You can get much more sane snapdragon 835 models like Sony XZ1 or Nokia 8 for not that much more than 5T

Nokia 8 is cheaper here in the UK. Don't get any of the spying software either.

Not really comparable since those have a 5.0 and 5.3 inch screen. Going to 6.0 inches is a huge difference.

What are the main features important to you in a phone? The pros of the S8 are the better camera, better screen, wireless charging, and water proofing. The 5T has a much smoother software experience, emojis that aren't ruined, a bigger screen, and better battery life.

Just remember this is not a phone to get if you care about software updates. Otherwise it's looking fairly impressive minus the missing water resistance. OnePlus already confirmed the phone will not have project treble which is crucial for speedy software updates.

For comparison a Pixel 2 is already on Android O and will get:
Android P, Android Q and Android R.

The OnePlus 5t is currently not even on Android O yet and will most likely not even get Android P.

Eh the 3 and 3T already have Oreo which is quicker than any other manufacturer for the most part. The 5T will get P and Q. They've confirmed software updates for 2 years. Of course comparing it to a Pixel updates won't be as quick, but they do better than most other oems providing updates in this price range

It won't get Q. It will get O and maybe P. Just look at their history for proof.

2 years without treble means two large os updates. Not every os released be Google within that 2 years.

We should also consider that one plus has straight up lied to their customers about software updates in the past.

I still say they give better update support than any other phone in this price range. The only company that does better update wise is Google themselves with their Pixel line. Now a Pixel 2 XL is $850+tax so you are looking at $400+ more dollars for the 2XL vs the OnePlus 5T. I can basically by OnePlus's next phone and a 5T for almost the same price as 1 Pixel 2 XL.

On treble, we don't really know how that is going to turn out yet. I did see on the oneplus ama that they are talking to Google about it, but no definitive yes or no yet.

Their updates has been terrible so far, great phones but they really need to quit lying when it comes to updates. I'm done with them. I don't have time to mess with their phones updating it through other means because they are not consistent with updates or if any at all.

I will get a Google phone when I have extra cash.

I suggest you skip it and buy the razer phone.

5T and Huawei M10 are using cheap chinese oled, their pentile matrix looks worse than samsung, you get a lower looking res especially for the 1080p 5T

I had my S8+ and had an awful experience. Finger print scanner rarely works first time, sluggish UI and an awful battery life. Not to mention how the value of the phone just plummeted. Go stock if you are getting android.

If you care about resale value get a OnePlus phone. You can use it a year and only lose $50 when you resale it. It also gives a stock experience with tweaks.

When the OnePlus One was released, those flagships were just as ridiculously overpriced and the OPO was lauded as affordable. Sure, the OP price has increased, but so have the prices of the flagships. It's still a super deal in comparison.

I bought a OP5 on launch and absolutely love it (my previous experience with OP was a OPO that I still have and still works fine and a OP2 which I returned almost immediately because of half-baked software (this was after they had the falling out with Cyanogen and before Oxygen OS was ready for prime time) and replaced it with a Nexus 6P. I'll almost certainly be getting the 5T soon and giving the girlfriend the 5 to replace her Galaxy 7, which she constantly complains about.

Yeah, when you think about the prices of other phones like the Pixel 2XL after tax is over $900 and Note 8 is $1,000 the OnePlus phones are a steal in comparison. I can buy 2 OnePlus 5Ts basically for the price of 1 2XL or Note 8 and get better performance.

I've had every OnePlus phone. The OP2 was definitely the flop in the line thanks to the bad snapdragon processor. The 5T is basically the 5 with a better screen and better camera system.

Mostly stock with a few tweaks like a dark theme you can enable. No bloatware on the phone other than their community app you can uninstall.

Doesnt matter, the pentile look is obvious in that photo. Pentile oled at 1080p is probably closer to 720p in displaying text, ugh!

Not sure, but OnePlus parent company Oppo is using the same samsung screen in their R11S. The pentile is obvious when you zoom in on that pic, but you don't notice it in person. The screen looks very nice in person.

They have not improved software support.

They just launched with a year+ old operating system (Nougat) with only a confirmation that it will still get the one thats already out (Oreo).

I get praising oneplus for their pretty good hardware specs at a mid range price but they should not be praised for software support.

This is what software you get with a OnePlus 5T:
- Android N (Launch OS)
- Android O
- Android P (maybe but HIGHLY unlikely)

Pixel 2 for comparison:
- Android O (Launch OS)
- Android P
- Android Q
- Android R

OnePlus does better than most other manufacturers for software updates. 3 and 3T already got Oreo, 5 just got an Oreo beta, and 5T will have an Oreo beta next month with final release early next year. Of course Pixel will get software updates first. It's a google phone. Also OnePlus said they will give the 5T 2 years of software updates so it will definitely get P and most likely Q as well. I'll take my $500 OnePlus 5T rather than a $900+ Pixel 2XL that has less ram and a horrible blue shift to the screen.

Pixel 2 is $650 and does not have the blue shift. Which by the way I paid jack shit for with my Pixel 1 Google Store trade in and new customer promotions with T-MOBILE.

What carrier promotions does OnePlus ever have? Zero. They also don't even work on Sprint, Verizon and US Cellular.

For some reason you keep going back to OnePlus is best at updates when compared to non Google OEMs. This is false. As slow as Samsung is out of the gate at least follow through later in the phone's life.

OnePlus lies to users in the beginning and will bail on their customers when it's time for the 2nd major OS update. History has proven this yet for some reason you are defending them like that never has happened.

Again. The OnePlus 5T is a really nice phone for the price but preaching they are great with software support is ridiculous.

Just making assumptions...

https://www.xda-developers.com/onepl...the-oneplus-2/

Want more proof? OnePlus skipped adding Project Treble this year by intentionally launching the OnePlus 5T with Nougat instead of Oreo.

You know why? Phones that launch with Oreo have to have Project Treble. Treble removes all the update excuses for the OEM. If your phone doesn't have treble than it's easier for the company to drop support through "excuses."

So that's 1 phone out of all the ones released, which recently got an update this year for security patches. What other phones from 2015 that cost under $400 are still getting updates?

They are still talking to Google about project treble. We don't know if it will be used or not going forward. It will be a good thing if it's included, but they still released Oreo already for the 3 or 3T which is less than 3 months after Oreo came out.
