ToLoveRu Darkness

Director: Atsushi Ootsuki
Studio: Xebec
Air Date: 10/05/12
Site: http://www.j-toloveru.com/

Yuki Rito’s dalliances with the constantly growing members of his harem reaches a fevered pitch, as Momo plots to hasten the arrival of the inevitable conclusion. Meanwhile, a mysterious red hair girl named Mea Kurosaki enters Sainan High School with a hidden agenda.

It’s ToLoveRu, that cesspool of manic fanservice, the quagmire of loose morals, stripped of any petty concerns like ‘storytelling’ and ‘quality,’ single-handedly responsible for declining birth-rates in Japan and the mental corruption of males worldwide. ToLoveRu Darkness was the spinoff-cum-sequel of the original manga, deviously born out of both shamelessness and rage, the product of a maddened cuckold furious at having drawn 2-D panties for a living even as another man lowered those of his wife. This is the anime for those without shame, for those who have fallen so low there is no turning back.

This is anime. (Welcome to the Fall 2012 Anime thread, guaranteed to encompass two bans, three threads, and four derailed hype trains.)

From the New World

Director: Masashi Ishihama
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Air Date: 9/28/2012
Site: http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/shinsekaiyori/
Trailers: PV 2, PV 3 (watch these!)

The story is set in Japan a millennium from now. Five children - Saki, Satoru, Maria, Mamoru, and Shun — have been born and raised in a tranquil town that can be described as a utopia, overflowing with water and green foilage. The world is ruled by people who have the "cursed power" or "gods' power" of telekinesis. After a certain incident, Saki and the others come to realize the true nature of their world. Before long, they learn everything, including the bloody history that brought humanity to this state. The five throw themselves into life-threatening adventure, fighting to protect friends and a world on the brink of collapse.

hosannainexcelsis: Hot stuff. An adaptation of a Nihon SF Taisho Award-winning novel. Intriuging premise set in a unique post-apocalyptic world. Strong visual design and excellent production values. A skilled animator making his full directorial debut and bringing a host of talent along with him. If you check out one show this season, make it this one.

Magi

Director: Koji Masunari
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Air Date: 10/07/12
Site: http://www.project-magi.com/

A young boy named Aladdin sets out to explore the world with his friend, Ugo, a djinn trapped in a flute. Soon, he discovers that he is one of the Magi, a magician with the power to crown kings.

The manga this is based on is excellent stuff, full of great adventure and comedy. The characters are likable, the action is good, and the world is consistently expanding, all tied together with great pacing and intersticed with Shinobu Ohtaka’s humor. What we’ve seen of it animated has been pretty good (all twenty seconds of it) and the designs are appealing, at least in motion when you can ignore the rice bowl mouths. The director is probably known best for his work on the Read Or Die series; Hiroyuki Yoshino, the master behind Guilty Crown/Qwaser/My-HiME, is handling the writing.

Gothicmade (movie)

Director: Mamoru Nagano
Release Date: 11/01/12
Site: http://gothicmade.com/

Yes, the same Gothicmade from the noted animator, mecha designer, and author of the minutiae-packed, obsessively detailed Five Star Stories, Mamoru Nagano. It’s been years in the making, announced back in 2006 only to disappear for years at a time, resurfacing now and then to tease, to titillate; a quick search online will show years of posts from forgotten posters on dead forums making the same proclamation, it’s coming, it’s coming, it’s coming, a trail of digital echoes reverberating years back into the past. Supposedly it’s coming out at last; the stars have aligned and all we can do now is to wait. Should be lovely, featuring mecha whose designs are fantastically elegant and probably a terrible fucking pain to animate.

Psycho-Pass

Chief Director: Katsuyuki Motohiro
Director: Naoyoshi Shiotani
Studio: Production IG
Air Date: 10/11/2012
Site: http://psycho-pass.com/

In a future with the technology to scan and analyze the psychology and personality of a person in an instant, the worth of one's soul is measured and recorded as a systemetic set of values - that is a person's 'Psycho-Pass'.

To protect and uphold the illusion of a utopian society, the Ministry of Welfare's Public Safety Bureau employs this system against those who are deemed by the system to have a high criminality coefficient, and locks them away.

To fight actual crime that slips through the cracks, those potential criminals found suitable are offered positions as crime enforcement officers instead - after all it takes a mind capable of understanding a criminal to catch one. Executive intendants are chosen from the elites of society to monitor and lead these officers - the system's leash on these necessary but untrustworthy hounds.

This is the story of the men and women of the Criminal Investigation Department, and their pursuit of justice...

duckroll: Dystopian future scifi police thriller. Gen Urobuchi. Production IG. Is this real life? An actual original scifi anime with adult characters, a potential for solid gun action, cloudy character motivations, and an Orwellian system just waiting to fall apart? Sign me up!

Robotics;Notes

Director: Kazuya Nomura
Studio: Production I.G.
Air Date: 10/11/12
Site: http://roboticsnotes.tv/

In 2019, Kaito Yashio is a member of his school's robotics club and a fan of fighting games. His classmate Akiho is a world renowned programmer of fighting games. Together they decide to create an actual giant robot and seek help from their friends.

I don’t know much about the VN that it is based on, other than its relations to the other semi;colon abusing series in 5pb’s science adventure lineup. I like the director’s previous efforts, and the designs/production are appealing as well, far moreso than White Fox’s effort on Steins;Gate. It’s set to run through both Fall and Winter on the noitaminA timeslot, along with the other Production I.G. show of the season, Psycho-Pass.

JoJo's Bizzare Adventure

Director: Kenichi Suzuki (SD Gundam) and Naokatsu Tsuda (Inu x Boku SS)
Studio: David Production
Air Date: 10/06/2012
Site: http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/jojo-animation/

The story of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure centers around the misadventures of the Joestars, a powerful family with English roots. Each member of the bloodline has a star shaped birthmark above their left shoulder blade – Dio Brando, the original nemesis of the Joestar family, and his descendants have this distinguishable mark also, a result from Dio's 'theft' of Jonathan Joestar's body and inheriting the Joestar genes as well. The series spans several generations, with each part featuring a descendent of the Joestars as the main protagonist along with a large cast of characters.

The first series, Phantom Blood stars Jonathan Joestar and the ambitious Dio Brando. It shows how the stone mask was found and how Dio first obtained and utilized his powers. Once Jonathan and Robert E. O. Speedwagon realize Dio's intentions, they must team up with Will A. Zeppeli and learn Ripple (Hamon) to stop Dio.

cosmicblizzard: You guys remember when anime was synonymous with MANLINESS? Well guess what's back! The motherfucking JoJos! The only thing more important to these guys than being manly is being fabulous. You want action? You got it! You want vampires? Screw that Twilight shit, you got that too! You want flamboyant poses from legit threatening characters? That's another check! Come and join the Joestars as they finally get a chance to shine in a 20 years overdue animation.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - or, Regardless of My Adolescent Delusions of Grandeur, I Want a Date!

Director: Ishihara Tatsuya
Studio: Kyoto Animation
Air Date: 10/03/2012
Site: http://www.anime-chu-2.com/

I’ve been forced into a contract with Rikka, another victim of teenage delusions of grandeur, and now she has messed up my life! Stop encouraging my teenage delusions of grandeur!!

Based on a light novel submitted to one of their contests that no one actually wins (but then, I suppose this particular novel won in the end, considering it was published and now it stands some chance at success via association with what will presumably be a popular show), it burned my eyes and now I am clinically blind. I write this with the assistance of a capable seeing-eye dog.

Nerawareta Gakuen (movie)

Director: Ryosuke Nakamura
Studio: Sunrise
Release Date: 10/19/12
Site: http://www.neragaku.com/

Spring marks the start of another new school year at a junior high school in Kamakura. A new transfer student, Ryoichi Kyogoku joins the 8th grade. Kyogoku has a very special proficiency in telepathy and has been ordered by his father to use this ability to scan other people's minds and take over the school.

He instantly gains popularity at school from his good looks and charisma and he sets about taking control of the school. As people begin to fall under Kyogoku's spell, he covertly manipulates his followers and pushes aside anyone who gets in his way.

With the school almost completely under the control of Kyogoku, only one boy seems unaffected – Seki. Does Seki have what it takes to save everyone from the clutches of mind control?

Ryosuke Nakamura, noted for his work on Mouryou no Hako among others, is helming this ‘new take’ on the children’s novel by Taku Mayumura. It’s apparently a well-known franchise in Japan with several different adaptations of it throughout the past few decades; unfortunately I had never heard of it before the announcement of the anime, and thus is unable to offer any real perspective on just what it might be about, outside of the synopsis provided by the SLA site for its international premiere in Scotland. The premise seems amusing enough and the PVs were promising.

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb

Director: Akiyuki Shinbo
Studio: SHAFT
Air Date: 10/4/12
Site: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/index-j.html

This series marks the continuing events of the students taking residence in the Hidamari Apartments. Yuno and Miyako are second year students while Sae and Hiro are in their third year at Yamabuki Art High. The two newest residents, Nazuna and Nori, have since become more comfortable with the original foursome.

In this chapter of their lives, more inevitable eating, laughing and light conversing shall ensue (following a daily introspective bath time complete with rubber duck to conclude)! Of course, the amusing adult cast returns, consisting of the eccentric (yet childish) Yoshinoya, the elderly (yet athletically impressive) Principal and others. The day-by-day activities involving them all will present how the girls interact with their environment as friends and growing artists.

Ultimadrago: Hidamari Sketch is a warm slice-of-life series that makes for a relaxing watch no matter how my day is going. The characters are largely simple, but have reflective moments that serve as a thicker dimension for them. The art direction is colorful, charming and at times really neat. For an anime to watch with a snack nearby along with time to ease from daily responsibilities and stressors, Hidamari Sketch's comfortable fluffy arms of "Wideface" is the place to rest.

Zetsuen no Tempest

Director: Masahiro Ando
Studio: BONES
Air Date: 10/04/2012
Site: http://www.zetsuen.net/

"The time is out of joint. O cursed spite; That ever I was born to set it right!" - Hamlet (William Shakespeare)

The heiress of a powerful and mystical clan finds herself abandoned in a barrel on an uninhabited island. A girl and her parents are killed in a senseless murder, the case goes unsolved. Thus the foundation is laid for a thrilling and bizarre tale of revenge and sorcery, and a battle which goes beyond time and space.

duckroll: Okay, full disclosure - This is based on a manga that is really bad. Not ha-ha bad, but just plain bad. It's convoluted, too "smart" for its own good, and the pacing is terrible. But have no fear, the anime staff will save the day! Maybe! Masahiro Ando, director of Sword of the Stranger and Hanasaku Iroha, reunites with studio BONES to attempt to salvage the source material into something exciting and watchable, aided by Michiru Oshima's (Fullmetal Alchemist, Xam'd) classical score performed by an 80-member strong orchestra. At the very least, this should look and sound great!

hosannainexcelsis: It's back, baby! Expect more delicious trolling and badass loser samurai in the best comedy on television.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

Director: Hiro Kaburaki
Studio: Brains Base
Air Date: 10/2/2012 (Tuesdays, 1:35 AM)
Site: http://www.tk-anime.info/
Trailer: PV

Shizuku Mizutani has only one thing on her mind: getting good grades so she can get a high-paying job. She has no interest in getting to know any of her classmates, certainly not Haru Yoshida, the boy sitting at the desk next to her who's been absent since the first day of school. But when she is assigned to deliver him handouts, his implusive personality begins to crack open her shell.

hosannainexcelsis: The manga is a fun romantic comedy, with emphasis on the comedy, featuring a cast of lovable, eccentric social misfits. The staff are solid and seem invested in the show, considering they put out a creative, well-produced trailer with all original material. Should be an enjoyable watch.

Three kids are stuck in a strange city causing massive mayhem through the land. They are searching for an atypical rabbit in order to return home. Koto, the eldest of the three, seems to have some sort of connection to this weird place ruled by a monk, a demon, and a priest.

It’s getting released as a series of short episodes online, on the release dates listed above. The original was a fast, flashy, kinetic as fuck piece of animation that also made no fucking sense. Here’s to a bit more coherence.

Fuse: A Gun Girl’s Detective Story (movie)

Director: Masayaki Miyaji
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Release Date: 10/20/12
Site: fuse-anime.jp

A gun-wielding girl named Hamaji hunts dog-human hybrids, called the Fuse.

I guess it’s some ex Bones staff (Miyaji directed Xam’d, among others here) working on this movie, which even kinda sounds like Xam’d, with the dog-human hybrids and such. I hope the shorter runtime of a movie gives him the kind of restraint needed to tell a story without it falling apart.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

Director: Atsuko Ishizaka
Studio: J.C. Staff
Air Date: 10/04/12
Site: sakurasou.tv

The school romantic comedy revolves around a second-year high school student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina — a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist — moves into Sakurasou.

‘The Pet Girl of Sakurasou’ kinda sounds like a porn in the making.

It’s some kinda fanservice anime about a girl who’s kinda not there and the boy who becomes her master. Or something. Mari Okada, the woman who saved noitaminA with her efforts on Ano Hana, is working on this. She’s notable for being pretty fucking terrible at her job, so I’m confident that this will be a good show.

Btooom!

Director: Kotono Watanabe
Studio: Madhouse
Air Date: 10/04/12
Site: http://btooom.com/

The story centers around Ryūta Sakamoto, a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) young man and a top-ranked player in the online combat game Btooom! One day, he wakes up on a tropical island without remembering how he got there. He sees a figure in the distance and asks for help. However, the figure responds by throwing something at Ryūta — a "BIM" bomb. In that moment, Ryūta comes to realize two things: one, his own life is in danger, and two, he is now in the world of Btooom!

I remember feeling pretty jelly that Kirito got all the girls with his MMO grinding skills in SAO. It was something I found hard to relate to; I knew my DKP, nowhere near as good as my KDR, would never get me a perfect life partner like Asuna.

Then Btooom! came along, a show for high KDR individuals like me. Now I too can go to sleep while cradling my Asuna pillow.

Girls und Panzer

Director: Tsutomu Mizushima
Studio: Actas
Air Date: 10/08/12
Site: http://girls-und-panzer.jp/

In this world, Sensha-do (戦車道), the art of tank-combat, is a traditional Japanese martial art for girls. Miho, a girl who just transfered into the Ōrai Girls' Academy in Ibaraki Prefecture, has been ordered by the academy's student council chairperson to join the school team and compete in the national Sensha-do championships.

It’s a show about cute girls doing cute things, with a fair bit of tank-related jargon being tossed around. There’s also a bit of tanks doing tank things and explosions and tanks sitting there looking like tanks; some good potential for action, along with the kind of physical comedy that Mr. Mizushima does well with. (See: Blood-C; Joshiraku; Azazel-san; etc) Tank porn and cute girls--can’t go wrong, right?

Little Busters

Director: Yoshiki Yamakawa
Studio: J.C. Staff
Air Date: 10/06/12
Site: http://www.litbus-anime.com/

We begin behind the eyes of Naoe Riki, a 2nd year at a boarding high school. He's meek, dependant, and cursed with fainting spells. He's also clever, loyal, and blessed with great friends that together form the centerpiece of this story. This group of friends, the namesake of the story, is the Little Busters. Kyousuke, a 3rd year and the tacit leader of the Little Busters, recruited Riki when they were still small boys, during a time when Riki was depressed and shut-in after the deaths of his parents. Together with two other boys, Masato and Kengo, plus Kyousuke's sister Rin, the 5 Little Busters spent their childhood together having fun and busting evil.

Dead eyes, bad designs, and a story designed to tear at your tragedy loving soul. Or so it probably goes. It’s KEY. (Seriously, look at that dude’s eyes. He’s seen some shit.)

I suppose the fact that Yamakawa is directing could be of some interest to those who liked Hells, as he worked on it. I don’t think it means much considering the difference in studio/premise/lack of Nakazawa, though.

The Mystical Laws (movie)

Director: Isamu Imakake
Studio: Nikkatsu Video, Kofuku no Kagaku Publications
Release Date: 10/05/12 (San Francisco, CA); 10/06/12 (Japan); 10/19/12 (Los Angeles, CA; Honolulu, HI)
Site: http://www.mystical-laws.com/intro/intro.html

The film takes place in 201X, when the newly-formed Empire of Godom is threatening to take over the world by using mysterious technology offered to them by Chan Reika, the mysterious female president of a trading company. The protagonist of the film Shishimaru Shou is the one man who has the mystical technology that can stop the Empire of Godom, but after being hunted down by the Empire, he is saved by mysterious Indians, who tell him about a prophecy about the second coming of a savior.

Japanese cult Happy Science comes out with yet another historically, theologically, and logically challenged movie with unfairly high production values. If the previous five movies are any indication though, this looks to be perfect material for MST3K-style riffing and should prove to be highly entertaining. It'll have space nazis. How could it not?

Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men.

All we’ve gotten so far are a series of cryptic PVs featuring pretty boys and booby girls, pandering to both sides of the aisle, it seems, with an ugly, overriding colour palette and a taste for frock coats and katanas. There’s a bunch of fangirl-friendly seiyuu, a character called Neko whose main purpose seems to be to run around half-naked, and the whole fucking thing is supposed to be from this anonymous collective of dudes with a twitter account called GoRa Project , or something. The whole thing stinks of a cash-grab of a very cynical sort (as if any other exist in anime, am I right?), there’s like three fucking directors attached to the project (two of whom are ‘series directors’; one was responsible for Princess Lover, the other for the Mardock movies), and it’s from GoHands.

Ixion Saga DT

Director: Shinji Takamatsu
Studio: Brain’s Base
Air Date: 10/08/2012
Site: http://ixion-saga-anime.jp/

The show follows the adventures of Kon Hokaze, a boy who embarks on a journey from our world to an alternate world known as Mira, which is full of a mysterious energy known as Alma. After saving Princess Ecarlate from attackers, he soon finds himself in the middle of a struggle around Alma.

At first glance, all I could see were the awful character designs and the underwhelming PVs, just a cash-in project for Brain’s Base as they gear up for Baccano 2. However, the director, Shinji Takamatsu, is most well known for a trifecta of well-received comedies--School Rumble, Gintama, and the Daily Lives of Highschool Boys--and early impressions indicate that the show continues along similar lines.

When she goes back to the site the next day, there are no corpses or evidence of any kind of murder, just a small fire. When Sakura goes to class, she discovers the new transfer student is the same boy she saw the day before. Sakura soon learns that he is Rei Ogami, the sixth "Code: Breaker," a special type of assassin with a strange ability and a member of a secret organization that serves the government.

cosmicblizzard: Hey, I got an idea. Let's make a series that's like a combination of Death Note and shounen fighting stuff, but instead of portraying the main character as an unsympathetic bastard that drives the point home he's a villain, we'll completely miss the point and make him seem like an alright redeemable guy despite doing shit that's nine times as evil. I BET EVERYONE WILL LOVE THAT!

Jexhius: The most entertaining show of the season.

Hayate no Gotoku! Can’t take my eyes off you

Director: Yoichi Ueda
Studio: Manglobe
Air Date: 10/03/12
Site: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/hayate-project/

The story of Hayate Ayasaki working alongside with maid Maria at Nagi Sanzenin's mansion continues.

After working on the financially underwhelming TWGOK, and then the similarly disappointing eroge adaptation Mashiro-iro Symphony, Manglobe is now behind yet another reboot of the popular Hayate the Combat Butler franchise. Of slight interest is the author, Kenjirou Hata’s, increased involvement with the project. Perhaps he finally came to his senses and realized that the true pairing needed to happen in Hayate, hinted above in the choice of image for this entry, and is now working to make it happen.

Kamisama Kiss

Director: Akitaro Daichi
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Air Date: 10/01/12
Site: http://www.mikagesha.com/

Nanao Momozono suddenly becomes homeless after her dad disappeared and left a huge debt behind, which forced her to leave the apartment. On the street Nanao rescues a strange man from a dog. To thank her, he gives her his house, which proves to be a run-down shrine, inhabited by a hostile fox-eared young man. Confused and tired with no other place to go to, she decides to stay, but this proves to be more difficult than expected...

Daichi is a director well-known for shows such as Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There, and Gag Manga Biyori among others(the list of shows he’s worked on really is quite varied, ranging from really wacky comedies like GMB and Sexy Commando to shoujo romances to, well, NTHT). I’m not familiar with the manga it’s adapting, but the synopsis and what I’ve read about it indicates there being a pretty average plot--a cute normal girl meets a handsome young man, and they’ll fall in love, one way or the other. The PV was . . . underwhelming.

Aoi Sekai no Chuushin De

Director: Tetsuya Yanagisawa
Studio: 5th Avenue
Air Date: 10/20/12
Site: http://aoisekai.net/anime.html

In the battle between parodical Segua (Sega) Kingdom and Ninterdo (Nintendo) Empire, the light-footed Gear (Sonic) appeared to defend his kingdom from the threat of Ninterdo's powerful emperor, Marcus (Mario).

A novelty piece whose appeal is predicated around a nerd-friendly piece of satire: console wars as fought by console manufacturer mascots transformed into console warriors. Only other thing of interest is that this isn’t a full series; there will be three episodes, one airing in Fall, the other two airing next year.

Medaka Box Abnormal

Director: Shouji Saeki
Studio: Gainax
Air Date: 10/10/12
Site: http://medakabox.jp/

Medaka, president of the school, fights dudes you won’t care about.

No one really cared when the first season aired, and I doubt the second season will turn out to be any different. Abnormal will cover some interesting battles as the series continues its shift into a full-on battle shonen, but the point where the manga truly hit its stride--coinciding with the introduction of its most popular character--happens at the end of the arc Medaka Box Abnormal covers. The first season sold so poorly I wouldn’t hold out any hopes for a continuation past this one.

Jormungand: PERFECT ORDER

Director: Keitaro Motonaga
Studio: White Fox
Air Date: 10/02/12
Site: http://www.jormungand.tv/

The series follows Koko Hekmatyar, a young arms dealer who sells weapons under HCLI, an international shipping corporation that secretly deals in the arms trade. As one of the company's unofficial weapon dealers, she secretly sells weapons in many countries while avoiding the local authorities and law enforcement as most of her work is actually illegal under international law. Traveling with her is her team of bodyguards who are mostly composed of ex-military veterans. Her latest addition to her crew is Jonah, a seemingly emotionless child soldier who is skilled in combat yet ironically hates arms dealers. Jonah joins Koko as he wishes to find the arms dealer responsible for his family's death. What follows is Koko and her crew's escapades around the world.

Not that familiar with the show asides from what I’ve gleaned of the standard complaints about a White Fox show, as in, it’s ugly and bad. That said people still seem drawn by its premise, which would also be typical of a White Fox show: carried by the material it adapts from.

Bakuman 3

Director: Kenichi Kasai / Noriaki Akitaya
Studio: J.C. Staff
Air Date: 10/06/12

Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi have come a long way since they started making manga in middle school, but trials still await them as they head towards their goal of getting an anime adaption for one of their manga. As they continue to grow as artists and as people, they will be faced with new friends, new rivals, and new hurdles to overcome.

People still watch this?

Teekyu

Director: Shin Itagaki
Studio: MAPPA
Air Date: 10/07/12
Site: http://te-kyu.com/

The manga centers around a girls' tennis team. (The title is a wordplay on a Japanese term for tennis, teikyū.)

It’s a set of three-minute shorts about a couple of girls in a light music club tennis club who doesn’t actually play much music play much tennis. I guess MAPPA is behind it, which could possibly be somewhat interesting (it’s not); Shin Itagaki is directing, writing, designed the characters, and is possibly ordering food for the staff which consists of himself and unsold stacks of Ben-to BDs retrieved from an Amazon warehouse. It’s all pretty ugly.

More interesting than anything about this junk is the fact that the studio is reportedly working on a movie based on a Fumiyo Kono manga. Which you should be excited by.

Hiiro no Kakera s2 or, Rape Fantasy: The Reverse Harem Edition

Director: Bob Shirohata
Studio: DEEN
Air Date: hopefully never
Site: http://www.hiironokakera.tv/

Tamaki Kasuga has supposedly gone to live with her grandmother after her parents are transferred overseas. But the real reason for her arrival is that she must continue the role, handed down from her ancestor Princess Tamayori, to seal the sword Onikirimaru. Five young men serve as her guardians against the mysterious Logos.

Why do we call these things ‘reverse-harem’ when the reverse of a harem wouldn’t be a harem at all?

Seitokai no Ichizon (new)

Director: Kenichi Imaizumi
Studio: AIC
Air Date: 10/13/12
Site: http://seitokai-no-ichizon.com/

The series, which is also called Hekiyō Gakuen Seito-kaigi Jiroku (The Records of the Hekiyō Academy Student Council’s Activities), revolves around a private high school whose student council is chosen entirely by popularity vote. Because of this, Ken Sugisaki is the only male representative, in the otherwise all bishōjo student council, that may enter the “sacred sanctuary” of the council’s meeting room. At the behest of Council President Kurimu Sakurano (pictured at right), Sugisaki records the minutes of the council meetings, which devolve into daily conversations about the students’ lives and interests.

The change of studios--from DEEN to AIC--accompanied by a change in staff--is probably a good thing. Probably.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled

The side story takes place in 2017 a.t.b., around the time Lelouch took on the alter-ego “Zero” and built up his “Black Knights” rebellion army. The setting is in Europe, where the Euro Universe (E.U.) allied nations are being invaded by the overwhelming forces of the Holy Britannian Empire. On the verge of defeat, the E.U. army forms a special division known as “W-O″, of which a young pilot named Akito Hyuuga is a member. Layla Malkal , a former Britannian Aristocrat comes to the E.U.'s aid, commanding the “Wyvern” Knightmare corps comprised of Japanese teenagers. They recklessly plunge into a battlefield, where the survival rate is extremely low, at about 5% only. They fight for their freedom, and for a "home" to which they can return.

Kazuki Akane is directing this more serious take on the Code Geass series, with brand-new characters and an original storyline. Duckroll's impression is probably the most comprehensive one so far.

Arata-naru Sekai

The story follows a "time researcher" and a group of children in a depopulated world that finds itself stuck in time. In order to save humanity, some of the characters are chosen to travel to the future (depicted in the anime), and others to the past (depicted in the manga), while those who are deemed unsuitable for the technology stay in the present (depicted in the novel.)

It’s a multi-media project with different characters for each format (but revolving around the same theme, I suppose). Created by the author of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, this particular OVA will be from Madhouse, directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa.

Usogui

Usogui follows the exploits of Bak Madarame known as The Lie Eater as he gambles against malevolent people who wish to kill him in the ultimate gamble. The games are as depraved as the people who place the bet such as Old Maid, Hangman and Escape the Abandoned Building. Bak's ultimate goal to keep his life and in this process enters Kagerou the third party who oversees and secures these games and gets rid of anyone who interferes with them. Follow Bak as he attempts to out-gamble and get control of Kagerou.

I’m always down for some gambling shows. Not familiar with the manga, and information about the anime--being bundled with the 26th volume of the manga--is scant at best.

Opening this thread and seeing Momo was a pleasant surprise.

I can't wait for Chuunibyou! Sakurasou might be okay too. Also kinda excited for OniAi.

I have info for Initial D Fifth Stage, don't know if it's confirmed yet though:

Director: Mitsuo Hashimoto
Studio: Synergy SP
Air Date: 11/4/12

I don't think the CG is ugly. :(

It only really takes 1 or 2 great shows to make a good season, so this season has promise but tbh I'm not that optimistic. Chuunibyou seems like it's gonna be really really marmite, and when that goes sour the rest of the season will have to do a lot to bring up the average impression as a whole.

Seriously can't wait for more Initial D.

I grew up hitting up the arcade which had a machine by the school every day for years. The anime wasn't great at all but it was a treat to watch. And nothing beats the greatness of the Initial D soundtrack, nothing!

People, seeing something as short as Te-kyū doesn't hurt... and Mr. Itagaki is a cool guy, I swear!

Sucks for me I'm still watching last season's boring crap.

Ok end, I guess. Sure, everything just kinda fell into place and all the drama just resolved itself really without a second thought. I guess that's basically how this show has been. Everything just gets resolved and no one really mulls over it and just moves onto the next set of problems or whatever.

Wien is still the best character.

I'm ready to board the hype train into the post-apocalyptic psychic future tomorrow.

But in the mean time!

La Maison en Petits Cubes

Awful confession time - I don't think of this as "anime". It doesn't fit into the neat visual boxes I think of for anime. That's not to say it's bad - because it really isn't, it's beautiful and enjoyable - but it means it gets upgraded to "animation"...

Visually it's Up by way of The Snowman; content wise it's also Up, but by way of Jeff Lemire's Underwater Welder. But such reduction isn't fair because that suggests it's poor - when it isn't.

Not much else to talk about. It's short, it's sweet, and the visuals and music work together nicely. I have no idea what the competition was for the Oscar that year but it probably deserved it.

It’s ToLoveRu, that cesspool of manic fanservice, the quagmire of loose morals, stripped of any petty concerns like ‘storytelling’ and ‘quality,’ single-handedly responsible for declining birth-rates in Japan and the mental corruption of males worldwide. ToLoveRu Darkness was the spinoff-cum-sequel of the original manga, deviously born out of both shamelessness and rage, the product of a maddened cuckold furious at having drawn 2-D panties for a living even as another man lowered that of his wife. This is the anime for those without shame, for those who have fallen so low there is no turning back.
You make it sound like there's some actual NTR in To-Love-Ru Darkness. Maybe then it wouldn't be so fucking boring. :(
