Best budget 4K TV for PS4 Pro w/HDR?

Don't buy a budget 4kTV. You won't be impressed. Save up.

Budget and HDR dont go together right now. Understand that you wont be getting the full experiance and dont judge HDR based on screens incapable of showing it fully. Even the X800D, so often recomended here, at the end of the day can not do every part of the HDR spec and lacks the hardware for some of the best parts (No edge lit will ever be able to do HDR properly, local dimming is fudged completely)

This used to be true, but has changed recently.
Just look at the reviews on that TCL P. You can get a real deal hdr experience now.

Wat bout dis one, this is the newer model of the tcl, right?
I'm looking for a 55 inch also for da ps4 pro, under $1k

https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/16/15815602/tcl-roku-tv-4k-series-review-best-budget-tv

No, this is the only TCL model to consider.
Only the 55" is available now with the other sizes later this year.

I picked up a Samsung KU6290 55" Refurbished from BJs for $400 shipped, this is for the living room.

The tv looks new, minus some small scratches on the back and fingerprints.

It's not "Real" HDR but it looks good, smart apps work really well too. Pictures quality is much better than the 2003 Sony XBR Projector it replaces LOL

I'll probably pick up a good 43" set for my bedroom, I'm thinking maybe the Sony X800 if it's on sale or a comparable Vizio...

I just got the Sony KD55XD8005D (I think it's more commonly known as the 850D) for £750 and it's class. Recommended.

Not to be an ass or anything, but if you want to enjoy the best possible 4K and HDR, you should invest a bit more. I say that as someone who went with a budget TV and now is dissatisfied as all hell about the TV I got (Samsung KU6300) I will invest in a better TV during the next six months, but I regret using that money on a budget TV instead of saving it for a much better screen.

Just gotta be able to live with terrible viewing angles and potentially awful blacklight bleed.

Also I myself would probably pay 400$ more for wide color gamut, better build quality etc.

It has wide color gamut and mine has no back light bleed to speak of - even with fald off, which would usually be on anyways.

Waiting on the 65 TCL myself (or Samsung EPP deal)

but here's a blurb from the AVS forum on the 55 mentioned:

Initial Thoughts

The 55P607 performs so well, it genuinely qualifies as disruptive. TCL packed it full of goodies like Dolby Vision HDR support and married it to the excellent Roku smart TV platform. The result is a TV the brings next-generation picture quality into the realm of affordability for the masses.

I’ve only had this TV for two days so I need more time to explore its capabilities and features in-depth, as well as view various types of content with it. However, if you are a videophile on a budget looking for a full-featured 55″ flat panel right now, based on what I’ve seen so far the TCL 55″ P-Series 4K HDR Roku TV should be on your short list..

Whats wrong with the KU6300? I got the same tv but only cost me $400. For the price its fantastic...

If you wanted "true hdr" then yeah look elsewhere i guess...

I ordered the TCL panel today from Amazon. It's back-ordered and should arrive in August.

The P607 ?

Also whats the big difference between the p607 and this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTGM5I9?tag=viglink20241-20

When you scroll down, it says it has HDR when it does the comparison with the P607. Its HDR but not dolby hdr?

Also this one is 49 more but they will ship it right away if you ordered the P607, off amazon but sold by electronic express https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y6FSV5Q?ref=emc_b_5_i

The 607 is FALD, not edge lit. It also supports Dolby vision and some cool ARC options that few other TVs have.

If you are in the U.S., you can order it from Best Buy and they'll deliver it for free this week or ship to a store and you could pick it up this week. Just an option if you don't want to wait. I ordered mine yesterday from BB and it should be here Tuesday. They offer your choice of 4 hour delivery windows since someone needs to be home to sign for it. I'm pumped to put the TCL P through it's paces.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tcl-55-...nmetal-chrome-accents/5878705.p?skuId=5878705

Edit: I should note that TCL made a Best Buy specific SKU that is the P605. Supports all of the same stuff like Dolby Vision and HDR10, but I believe the one difference that that the included Roku remote from the BB SKU doesn't have a headphone jack built in, while the one from Amazon does.

Here's a similar question. I have a good HDR television and a friend of mine has a PS4 Pro I want to borrow to check out if the extra cost is worth it. What is the one game that shows off the difference the best, and what settings do you suggest?

RTings is a fantastic source because their reviews test the color gradient. It's been mentioned a bunch of times in here, but it's a great site for TV research.

EDIT: This table shows color gradient rating and 8 vs 10 bit panel by model number: http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/gradient
I don't even know how much that matters when you're still going to get a ton of gradient banding artifacts with 8bit sources (or is that a different thing?). The ks8000/9000 for instance scores really well but to me, they make source flaws way more visible than any previous TV I've ever owned, probably because of the jump in size and brightness. It's not just me though, because you can find a ton of new owners complaining about the same thing.

According to this, the TCL has an input lag of 14.1 ms with 1080p HDR content (the author didn't have the ability to test 4K input lag though)

http://www.avsforum.com/tcl-55-p-series-model-55p607-4k-hdr-roku-tv-with-dolby-vision-first-look/

And according to this, the Vizio M series has 40.4 ms of input lag with 1080p content and 38.7 ms for 4K HDR content.

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-2017

Those numbers, to the best of my knowledge for both sets are with the tvs set to game mode.

From the TCL first look article:

"Input lag is extremely good; I expect this TV will be popular with gamers. I can't test 4K lag, but with 1080p I measured lag times in Movie mode at 26.4 milliseconds (top of screen) and 34 milliseconds (middle of screen). Turning on Game mode within Movie mode resulted in lag times of 10.3 milliseconds (top of screen) and 14.5 milliseconds (middle of screen), which are exceptional for a TV.

Switching to HDR, input lag (again 1080p) was an astonishingly low 6.5 milliseconds (top of screen) and 14.1 milliseconds (middle of screen). I quadruple-checked that result, given how great those numbers are. I have not yet gamed on this TV, but I expect a fluid experience. I also appreciate how Game mode preserves the calibrated colors.

Notably, SDR Movie mode input lag is so low, you don't need to engage to have a great gaming experience in SDR. You can opt for optimal picture quality without adding noticeable latency."

Problem with the TCL is that Game Mode deactivates FALD, which is a big blow to IQ and that drop off will be most noticeable with HDR content.

Still curious to see those 4K HDR input lag times WITHOUT game mode.

If anyone's curious, I have this TV (S series) and have been pretty happy with it. You lose Dolby Vision, but still have HDR10 and i've been content with how HDR content looks on it so far.

Sadly I don't have any data to pair with this post, and information online is pretty sparse but to my eye I think it's a great choice as an (even more) budget friendly option. If anyone would like more info I'd be happy to share.

wats the diff between dolby vision and HDR10, is dolby vision for movies only and HDR10 for gaming?
I don't care for much movie pic quality, need one good for 4k gaming and 1080p movies. No 4k movies will be watched here.

Also anyone know wats the input on the s405 TCL?
I might just go for dat, its 449. cant beat dat price man.

This is the only thing that I wish wasn't the case, but I ordered one yesterday anyways. They are already launching a patch to tweak the operation of FALD this upcoming week, I'm hoping (albeit, I don't have a ton of hope) that they end up patching in game mode with FALD active.

I can vouch for the M50-E1. Just got it this weekend for $599 from Best Buy. HDR10 and 12 (Dolby Vision) should both be supported. Beautiful TV. Beware that only HDMI 1 of 4 supports HDMI 2.0 with HDR. You can get a switcher or AV receiver to work around this.

Damn. If only I could go back to 50”. $599 is insane.

The 55" is $648 at Walmart
The 65" is 1198 at Walmart

Rtings.com gave the 2017 M series great marks for hdr movies and HDR gaming. I'm really leaning towards this in a 55" for my spare bedroom/gaming room. My 1080p M series still looks great in my living room. I sit somewhere 18' away so 4k set really wouldn't do much at that distance unless I went 80" or so. Way too costly.

Stupid question. Do you need an HDR pass-through capable AV receiver to use hdmi audio and hdr? Or can I get around this by using an ARC on the TV? Will that result in lag or sound quality degradation?

Hmm have a 60" 1080 now sit about 8' away.

Could mayyybe go 55" at that price... it's near a damn impulse buy with HDR and 4k. Could probably justify it now and swap my Day One bone for an S with HDR for FH3

thinking of holding out closer to x1x for the 65 though

Hisense TVs are worth a look. They've reviewed extremely well in tech mags and are very affordable.

Amazon have them (obviously!)

To be honest, I wouldn't buy an "HDR" tv that doesn't have a full 10-bit panel. This is just fake HDR and while it will look better than SDR, it's nowhere near the real thing.

Hm, I am not quite sure here.
We have a lot of TVs in the office to test our app on and currently we have a KU6409 (German model, I don't know under which name its known in the US) and right next to it a new Samsung QLED model.
The QLED should have much better HDR performance, but I honestly don't see much of a difference.
That said, I only tested it with HDR Youtube content and HDR video material from a USB stick. So I didn't test it with a HDR video game.
