Hey Sydneysiders, I heard an interesting story on Friday. Not sure if it's common knowledge in Sydney... Apparently once a year the Harbour Tunnel guys park a car in the middle of the tunnel in the wee hours of the morning, set fire to it, then sit back and watch what happens. Just to see how drivers react and how their emergency systems hold up.

I can believe that with the HT but not with regular commuters. They close the HT every so often late at night.

They would have to test all their emergency systems every so often.

According to the person who told me, it's just with regular people and the tunnel is opened like normal. Seemed a bit dubious to me (since many drivers may not be equipped to deal with such an event) but that's what the teller of the story said.

Yeah, there are tons of videos around of cars piling up in tunnels after an accident, so I can't see it being a responsible way to test your processes (though it would certainly be accurate). People died when a truck broke down in Melbourne's tunnel a few years back.

I think Brisbane has turned me into a wuss. I never remember being overly cold in Sydney, but here I start pulling out the heater in May and don't put it away till October.

edit: Vook that usually means a spinal injury. I would have thought that ambulance would have been doing 200k's an hour

She was revived on the pitch!, they knew she was in serious trouble.

General outfield players won't wear helmets, its ridiculous. Just an incredibly unfortunate accident and that's it.

I have been hit in the head at training, completely flush on the side of my head near the temple getting balls out of the back of the net and someone wasn't watching. IT happens.


Edit: I should add I played half my games minus a mouth guard. I was also foolish and very fortunate. Played from year 2 through till I was late 20s.

yeah i remember that crash. It's now illegal in Vic (but not NSW yet) to change lanes in a tunnel

Sounds like all hometown heroes. Living in Geelong was fucking terrible for the bullshit the media got up to. Nothing mattered more than knowing how their players restaurants were going or what the captains favourite cafe in each suburb was called.

It's not illegal. The tunnel has overhead signs saying to 'avoid lane change' but it's not illegal, and if it is I haven't heard of anyone being fined despite seeing people changing lanes all the time, myself included.

Them: 'Just wondering why you didn't do those changes on Friday to my site'.

Me: 'I was at a funeral.'

Them: 'So will you do them today? I need them done ASAP'

The change is to remove two periods in a graphics from the words CCTV (they have C.C.TV).

Clearly urgent.

lol, they don't always feel bad.

Told my lecturer I couldn't come to an exam because of a funeral, can I take a make up exam? "You need a medical certificate", "I don't have one, its a funeral", "then no make up exam, rules say you need a medical certificate". There's also a family circumstances reason, but okay whatever.

Technically that's not the Courier Mail. That's the Ipswich News, which is the competitor to where I work.

They've come to this bizarre belief that people want ACA style journalism in a free weekly paper. They said the local mayor was going to have a battle to be re-elected after one of their online polls showed him trailing. He was returned with nearly 90% of the vote.

Sydney cold? Huh? Seemed same as it has been for the past few weeks at 6:30-7AM and was quite warm by 8AM in the city.
