Sitting on 100% for the time being, sounds like it's an intense ride.

Rotten Tomatoes link

Variety review

By all means, go to "mother!" and enjoy its roller-coaster-of-weird exhibitionism. But be afraid, very afraid, only if you're hoping to see a movie that's as honestly disquieting as it is showy.

Hollywood Reporter review

A very Rosemary's Baby-like intimate horror tale that definitely grabs your attention and eventually soars well over the top to make the bold concluding statement that, for some creators, art is more important than life.

Collider

The first portion is very Ingmar Bergman-like, a suffocating chamber play with simpler dream machinations and a frightening world of unease. The second portion turns into outright chaos, a carnival ride of horrific human behavior.

So is this another case of a studio letting professional yes-critics getting an early embargo viewing so that the Rotten Tomato score is very high?

I think most of these reviews might be from Venice...though I'm not sure if Collider go to Venice.

That is not a thing.

It is at Venice film festival... which has been going for 74 years.

Time Out - Grappling with this climax -- steeped in gore, religious symbolism, hundreds of marauding strangers (including Kristen Wiig) and sheer chutzpah -- is the moviegoing gauntlet of the year. 5/5

TIME Magazine - It tries so desperately to be crazy and disturbing that all we can see is the effort made and the money spent. No wonder there's an exclamation mark in its title. Aronofsky just doesn't know when to quit

Daily Beast - [mother!] is a sickeningly glorious mess

The Playlist - "mother!" is something truly magnificent, the kind of visceral arthouse experience that comes along very rarely and spits you out into the daylight dazzled, queasy, delirious, and knock-kneed as a newborn calf.

Sounds like a must see if not just for the spectacle and potential divisiveness. Well I mean critics seem to love it but it's Aronofsky so it'll be divisive I think.

Wonder if it'll flop being so close to IT.

It's a week early and this film has been getting screenings and festival showings for awhile. It's also from a director that has been making nothing but quality films for decades now. A high RT score isn't unusual. In film it is often the films that don't.get screenings that are the ones that are stinkers

Mother! in its way reminded me of the musical The Book of Mormon: it could be about the birth of a new religion with all the irrational absurdity, vanity and celebrity worship that this entails. Or it could be a satirical portrait of a marriage and the humiliation involved in catering for a sleekly pompous man old enough to be your father. But maybe it is just about the gleeful anarchy involved in destruction, in simply taking the audience on a series of stomach-turning quantum leaps into madness. As horror it is ridiculous, as comedy it is startling and hilarious, and as a machine for freaking you out it is a thing of wonder.

Can't. Wait. To. See. This!

Aronofsky is one of those dudes whos film always comes off as divisive on these meta scoring sites but its doing fairly well on RT. I'm watching it regardless of the score. Pi, Requiem, and The Fountain have made me a lifelong fan.

Saw the trailer during IT and the 3d sound was pretty nuts compared to everything else.

Looks to be intense af if the trailer is anything to go by. I know they jack the volume for trailers, but still seemed very good

Was kinda intrigued after seeing this trailer on my showing of IT. Not really by the content of the trailer, but its oddly desperate plea to the audience to buy tickets the moment IT was over. I was gonna see this regardless. It's Arronofsky. I gotta.

Bring it Aronofsky. I thought Noah was his only "bad" movie and even then it was an interesting visual package. The Fountain is kind of a mess but its an incredibly well put together mess, I mean that audio visual double hitter is something else. Black Swan was an intense head trip and made me feel like I was actually losing it in the theater. Requiem of a Dream still haunts me when I think of it and I'm not sure I'll ever rewatch it but more because of its power to destroy you as much as the characters than it being a bad movie by any means. I'm excited after being a bit unsure at first as those reviews sound right up my alley and I heard people were both booing as well as applauding all at the same time through out the movie at some festival showings.

I guess movie trailer people don't know about moviepass yet. Who buys movie tickets anymore? That's like paying fool price for video games.

I just got back from seeing it, and I really don't know what to think. For the first 90 minutes, it was intriguing, suspenseful, and well acted. Then the last half hour hits, and....... I don't really have the words for what I witnessed during that time. I just know that when the movie ended, I was angry. It wasn't a bad film, and I'm glad I knew nothing going into it, but I never want to see it again. Those last 30 minutes felt unneeded, excessive, and still left too many unanswered questions while moving at a pace that is almost too much to comprehend. It reminded me more of The Neon Demon rather than Rosemary's Baby which many are comparing it to.

I'm pretty sure I loved it, even though I'm not sure I could ever watch it again.

Mild Spoilers: once you get the bigger "meaning" then all the metaphors and such are actually pretty on-the-nose... especially one of the final moments.

This film kept me tense throughout. That's pretty rare.

Some folks are gonna hate it, though. :)

Come to think of it, this movie did remind me of End of Evangelion in a way. Except I loved EoE, and this was just..... I don't know.
