Even though he's not PI, Deep Roy immediately came to mind, and he's shorter than Peter Dinklage who is taller than Hervé Villechaize. Peter Dinklage also has a different kind of dwarfism, so really the only thing in common is they're both short.

So, no good choices. Acting skill wise, I'm Dinklage > Roy opinion wise

Does anyone follow that Love Life of an Asian Guy fellow on Facebook?

I was just reading about all his drama with East Asian vs Southeast Asians/South Asians. He's not wrong, but it feels like its typical Asian-American drama and setting everything on fire.

I feel we get even more upset with the people on our side much more than the people we are opposed to.
What's hilarious is that even though I'm only third-generation and a ginger white boy, the second I drop the fact I have Japanese heritage, Japanese and Japanese-American folks completely change their attitude towards me and immediately accept me with open arms. The Asian vs. Asian/Us and Them thing is so true, it's really funny.

I'm kind of a weirdo, though. I'm effectively Clayton Bigsby, were he white and thought he was Asian... :\

That's not really different than other ethnicities, Latinos do the same thing

I just had an interesting conversation at dinner. A friend of ours loves old timey things. Like between the Civil War and World War 2, not too big on anything from the early 50's on. The dress, the fashion, the design aesthetic, all of that. I'm personally a fan of 60's on up. I prefer modernity, I think mid-century Swedish furniture design is cool. But it lead down the path to this question:

Is it easier for white people to be nostalgic than people of color?

Friend said that things were simpler back then, etc. And I know he meant it totally innocently, but myself, a Latina and an African-American girl, were pretty much, "Nope. Life sucked back then." We didn't stick around the topic too much because we didn't want to shit on our friend's likes and interests. But for real, it just got me thinking, the past sucked hard. I look at the 40's design aesthetic and I can't not think of shit like internment, Jim Crow, Chinese Exclusion Act (Magnuson Act didn't really change that.)

Korematsu v. United States is still fkn good law, as it was never overturned. Incredible, isn't it?

And to answer your question, resounding "Yes." I forget who it was, but there was a comedian whose standup mentioned going back in time. EDIT Figures, it was Louis CK who said time travel is a white person's privilege.

I mentioned awhile back I had a business trip to NY and part of it included some tickets to the Kpop band EXO's concert... well here is a video we put together from the trip which includes some video from the show. It also included a couple fashion shows at NY Bridal Fashion Week and a quick trip over to Barcelona for another fashion show.

I traveled with a couple Korean dudes (one photographer and one famous dress designer) as well as my boss (Chinese guy).. so language and communication was interesting, but we had a lot of fun. Check it out if you have time and give me your thoughts :p

https://youtu.be/7NmZRtCA-Qc

PS: It's a shame none of you took up my offer for tickets to the concert! EXO was actually quite fun. High energy! Would have been cool for GAF meetup there or LA... gave away 10 tickets to the LA show.

Also to the person above talking about stereotypes for Shanghainese people... I've lived here about 4.5 years now and they aren't without merit. There are a lot of great Shanghai people, but there are also a lot assholes that talk shit and look down on anyone not from here.

*Drunk as fuck*

I wouldn't have survived because I'm a depression ridden and anxiety fuck. That would have killed me at the first encounter :(

We have made some great progressions but we still have a loooong way ^_^

I..... Don't know how that answers your question. Sorry fam.

Hi guys. I'll be visiting Kuala Lumpur and Hongkong next month. Any tips on where to buy gaming stuffs? I'd like to buy some specific asian region only releases like Gundam Series and probably some imported japanese artbooks.

I just came back from hong kong. There is one particular shopping arcade I think it was called Sino Center, along Nathan Road near Mong Kok in Hong Kong. It should be opposite the side to a department store called Wing On.

You can get gaming along with other japanese stuff there, music CDs hentai, anime and video games along with japanese and korean otaku stuff. It gets very busy in the weekends.

Apart from that if you just want gaming and computer tech then there is the Golden Computer Center/arcade just off the Sham Shui Po station. Again weekends is really packed out!

Both Sham Shui Po and Mong Kok stations can be reached on the same MTR underground train line.

There is another place on Hong Kong Island near Wanchai called Oriental 188 Shopping Center, That too has several floors of video game shops.

Is GOTG2 any good?

Also my bachelorette party is this weekend in LA. I'm wondering if we really want to play drinking games the night before an early morning hot yoga session...

I enjoyed GOTG2. It felt like the humor was a bit forced in some places, but overall I found it to be a very enjoyable movie.

You will smell all the booze escaping your body the next morning at hot yoga, and you will run the risk of being rather dehydrated,

Guardians 2 was as good if not better than the first. A lot of great stuff in it.

And with that much Gatorade, everyone's either gonna be sticky or covered in multicolored vomit. Probably be fun either way though.

i find it amusing that this casting in aquaman still has zero replies whereas this thread reached multiple pages quite quickly

lots of armchair commentary opportunities

Shit. I forgot about that casting. I like it! A very cool choice and I can't wait to see the reveal. Did the GA like him in Power Rangers? I have heard that he represents a different aspect of Asian Americans and it was good?

Chinese actor Ludi Lin

X76fkwY.gif

who recently starred as the Black Ranger in Liongate’s Power Rangers reboot, has landed the role of Murk

X76fkwY.gif

in Warner Bros James Wan-directed DC superhero film Aquaman.

Very tempted to post the gif a third time.

Aside from being an attractive woman in a skin-tight outfit straight off the set, GAF loved all of the Depp/Heard drama.

The cast of the last xXx film is pretty diverse.

Donnie Yen as Xiang
Deepika Padukone as Serena Unger
Kris Wu as Harvard "Nicks" Zhou
Tony Jaa as Talon

Tony Jaa was wasted though (they saved the fight scenes for Donnie).

Yeah, there's definitely some false equivalence with that casting. Any thread about casting Mera would be huge because she's a huge part of Aquaman's mythos.

Meanwhile, who the fuck is Murk?

Vin Diesel movies usually have very diverse casts if he can influence it.

Again it's in the same area as the Sino Center tucked away in Mong Kok

What's the RottenTomatoes/Metacritic for Asian films? We wanted to see a film today and there was a decent selection (almost half at the cinema were of Asian origin woo!):

Alien: Covenant
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Everything, Everything
Beauty and the Beast
The Circle
The Boss Baby
Half Girlfriend (Hindi w/e.s.t.)
Hindi Medium (Hindi w/e.s.t.)
Sarkar 3 (Hindi w/e.s.t.)

Get Out
Meri Pyaari Bindu (Hindi w/e.s.t.)
Chuck
This Is Not What I Expected (Mandarin w/Chinese & English s.t.) — iirc seen trailer in theater
Battle Of Memories (Mandarin w/Chinese & English s.t.)

Generation Iron 2
The Belko Experiment
The Wall
What a Wonderful Family (Mandarin w/Chinese & English s.t.)
Your Name (Japanese w/e.s.t.)
— seen trailer & GAF hype
This presents an unfamiliar (but good) problem: too much choice! I was only familiar with 2 of the Asian films... any new films worth seeing?

I personally haven't seen any of the Asian films there besides Your Name, but I think there's an Asian film OT somewhere where you're more likely to get people who follow this stuff closely.

Ugh, I've been looking for a Nintendo Switch lately and it's like the Wii all over again. I know I shouldn't but I really want to play Zelda...

Speaking of Asian films, I saw Eat Drink Man Woman by Ang Lee because of a Chinese food thread awhile back. Even when I was warned about a twist, I still didn't see it coming.

You could always get it on Wii U.

Zelda is amazing, though. If you're at all a fan I would absolutely play it.

What I did was turn on mobile notifications for cheapassgamer's twitter so I'd get a notification for every tweet. They post when the system is in stock on-line and I managed to grab one I think the next day. My timing was lucky but it was easier than refreshing and checking stock myself. They tweet frequently so be prepared for your phone to blow up.

Great tip. I'm staying only for 3 days in Hong Kong and tons of things to do, so I don't think I would have the time to check all those places. But considering it is near Sino Center, I'll probably check this place out.

One more question, as Asian-GAF loves to talk about food, anything not to miss in Hong Kong and Macau food wise?

lots of roast meat and noodles with seafood!

Also in Mong Kok there is a market named.. 'Ladies Market' you will find lots of goods and quite a lot of fake brands here too.

Foodwise I just ate traditional dim sum, white rice with char siu and siu yuk, congee with pi daan & lean pork, even Macdonalds and KFC will offer something different.

Slightly non food related but at the time I was in HK Macdonalds was doing some promotion stuff with 'Line Friends'. My nieces were going ape over these.

Buying dim sum from 4am with the relatives.

and those fish are for eating!

Check out the supermarket chains like welcome and ParknShop

Various cake shops sell mouth watering stuff.. But I was good and stuck to fruit and the odd ice cream for sweet treats :p

At the time of late April early May seemed like green tea and mango was a thing with these desert places.

My last meal in Hong Kong was in a korean BBQ place although I can't remember the name or exact place but it was on the 9th floor and the queues for the lift was crazy! I wouldn't quite call it authentic Korean BBQ as there was also chinese food stuff mixed together with the korean bits.

If you like Studio Ghibli stuff then there is a shop at the Harbour City shopping center, near Tsim Sha Tsui ferry that sells...... Studio Ghibli stuff. Man it's expensive but I wanted to buy a LOT !

Macau is like nothing but a gambling city.. You will need a visa to get back and fourth from HK to Macau. The new area has massive casino's and some of those the architecture looks like it could fit inside a Final Fantasy game.
My 1 day visit to Macau
