Trailer: Tomb Raider Movie feat. Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft

Looks alright honestly. The music was a tad overdone. It was too epic for the most mundane scenes there and kind of lost the desired effect I feel. Or I could be overthinking and I should go sleep

better casting than angelina jolie for sure, but shes still too thin. someone capable of doing what lara craft does would have a good bit more muscle mass, especially in the legs. otherwise looks kind of boring

Everything I've seen and heard points to a PG-13 which is moronic considering how Lara straight up liquifies enemies in the reboot series.

Rating issue aside, yeah, looks pretty poor.

Looks like bean-counting crap, sorry

And why does thumpingly clunky dialogue always have to be a requisite for these $150m things

That was fucking awful and did not inspire any confidence in the full film. Apparently they did filming in Cape Town? But you wouldn't know it since even most of the exteriors seen in the trailer look like they were done in a parking lot with green screen. And I can't believe it since it's one thing we take for granted, but the lighting looks really, really, really bad as well.

I had high hopes that the grittier survivalist Lara from the reboot games would be adapted and not just set pieces... but this looks like hot European action movie garbage.

Looks alright, which is a step up from utter shit as most games-to-movies are. Will likely check it out on whatever streaming service it comes to but could see the cinema on a rainy day with nothing else on.

Alicia does look a little expressionless at times but could just be the trailer.

Just looks bland. Inoffensive is about the best I can describe it, and about the most it can inspire me to care. It's neither like the grimy pseudo-horror/thriller that the reboot was, but not bizarrely off-the-wall like the old games/movies.

The name is maybe the only reason anyone is talking about it.

I read a while back that Square Enix pitched the concept of a Tomb Raider movie reboot to Hollywood as being a movie that's based within the Square Enix reboot era of Tomb Raider (the Tomb Raider 2013 reboot occurred under Square Enix's ownership of the Tomb Raider franchise), ultimate hope from Square Enix was Hollywood would adapt at least the first Tomb Raider reboot into the movie storyline.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it, but it looked a little cheesy. Was hoping they would go full on violence with it, but the tone seems really light.

It's good that they didn't make it look particulately good. Otherwise they might have alienated fans of the first two movies

Of course it looks terrible, that just isn't Lara Croft at all. No English accent, no witty one-liners, not feminine in terms of outfit design and there's nothing that resembles Tomb Raider in that. "Death is not an adventure" just goes to show how out of touch they are with their audience because Lara actually likes the rush of avoiding death, not trying to actively to avoid that.

Looks way better than I was thinking it would. I have no clue who the hell Alicia Vikander is but hopefully she can pull it off and the story doesn't get too stupid.

Um, wow. This looks like it will potentially be the first non shitty video game adaptation ever.
Remember when people said this after the Assassin's Creed trailer? We saw how that worked out.

You need to watch Ex Machina.

what the hell does that even mean? does she have to wear a dress? idgi

I dig it.

Love how toned she looks too. She's definitely been working out.

Ah. You're confusing Lara for the Asian dude. No wonder you think she doesn't look feminine.

The part at the end with the her holding the iconic TR pistols and with her hair in a ponytail... they should have led with that!

Tbh, it doesn't look awful... on the other hand the progression seen in the trailer—from uninitiated daughter of a rich archeologist, to a mass murdering badass sociopath—feels just as jarring as in the 2013 TR reboot game.

I mean, of all the things to inherit from the TR 2013 game, this (i.e. the most criticized part of the game) is NOT what you want to inherit in your movie.

Yet in the making of vid you see her doing it. It's almost as if you're making stuff up.

Women can't catch a break. Too fat. Too thin. Too ugly. Too pretty.

I'm setting low expectations for myself so I won't be disappointed... but honestly, the first reboot game is my fav in the series and this feels a lot like it (a lot of trailer moments pulled direct from the game).

Wasn't really a fan of the whole Trinity org/plot from RotS though, so not personally stoked that it'll be the main plot driver here.

Oh God it's based on the awful story of the last two games?

Not that it matters that much for an action film, but I hope Vikander manages to make her character likable and not the bland nothing Lara is in both the 2013 reboot and RIse.

I'm obviously not thrilled about the inclusion of her dad or the whole "save the world" BS but we already knew that those would be in. And other than that I thought it looked quite good. Loved the shot at the end with the braid.

I honestly expected worse. It doesn't look like it'll be anything amazing, but it does look like it'll be a decent time at least.

There's an image of a character that they don't quite grasp with the cast.
It's like when a lot of people complained that Craig was "too blonde" for a Bond (and he definitely wouldn't have been cast if he was too fat instead of a fit beast he was in Casino Royale). Vicander is a good actress, but this character being portrayed is not a very good Lara, though in my opinion it honestly has more to do with character than with the look.

The CG looks really cheap. And the stunt work and choreography looks unconvincing.

Alicia is a good actress, but this doesn't seem like her role, tbh.

Funny how back in the day Nathan Fillion was such a popular fancasting choice for Nathan Drake, considering he's kind of homely. But he had the charm and swagger down, so it didn't really matter than the's not a particularly handsome man.

Alicia is a great actress and the casting is fine, but they are taking the story and characters from a game that has boring story and characters, thats the most concerning part IMO.

looks like it captures the reboot games tone pretty well, sadly the reboot lara has the personality of a plank of wood so i can't imagine it's going to be very entertaining. plus the terrible CGi effects make it look like some straight to TV movie...probably aired on something like syfy at 3am. lol
