Awesome system update !!!!

after some messing around with the new firmware and my LCD I found "limited" is the best HDMI option for my Bravia KDL32V2000 since it gives the best black levels. On the other hand , the "full" HDMI option makes Resistance look more vivid but a bit too dark, same goes for Virtua Fighter 5 where self-shadowing turns into "self-blackening"

Appart from that I think with this 1.8 firmware the IQ is slightly improved for HDMI no matter which option you select (or is it just the hype? I swear everything's looking cleaner and more vibrant today :p)

As for PS2 upscaling, I found 1080i / Normal / Filtered the best option so far.

And finally, 720p is nice for Blu-Ray but it looks even better @ 1080i at least on my Bravia.

So Twonkymedia shows up on my PS3, but I only get the " there are no titles" or " file not supported", and Eyeconnect wont install the Pref pane on my macbook..

Guess Macbooks are out of luck.

EDIT: I am an idiot, I was looking for my music files, while I was above the Movie section, that doesnt work. Works fine now, when I look for my music while in the music section of my PS3

Hmm so how is a mac user to share their content?

Also is it normal for the ps2 titles not to take all of the screen even with the full screen setting ticked? (using just scan on 1080p tele)

I would love to see some 720p vs 1080p comparisons for BD movies. I'm aware that maybe such a comparison wouldn't be entirely accurate since the films would be playing on different TVs. But arrrrrgh, adding 720p BD playback really made the quest for my ULTIMATE SETUP a lot harder.

Is media sharing possible on a wired network, or is a wireless network required for streaming media?

And can anyone educate the masses (me + whomever) on the use of apps like TVersity and Twonky to facilitate this? My goal is to get some of these vids/music files over to my PS3 and I'm too behind on understanding how everything works to be able to do it. Would appreciate if anyone could even point me in the right direction to a document or whatever to learn more.

Anyone know how sharing with WMP11 works? I assume Tools -> Options -> Library -> Configure Sharing, but my PS3 doesn't show up under the device list.

Wired will work.

Your best bet is to simply install one of those apps and look at their manuals or what-have-you. The apps themselves usually aren't very difficult to work with, where difficulty might arise might be with firewalls or the like. I think we're all to a greater or lesser extent still figuring out what the best way to do this might be.

Same here.

With Mac systems :

- EyeConnect doesn't work : found by the PS3 but 99% of the time, media can't be read.
- TwonkyMedia works very well.

Too bas TwonkyMedia doesn't read the iPhoto library (one thing that EyeConnect actually does), it would be perfect.

Only PS3-readable formats can be streamed from PC to PS3.

Are there any servers with decent transcoding capability? TVersity is supposed to transcode, but I'm not sure how well it works, and what sort of tweaking you might need to do.

Thusfar, for me, TwonkyMedia has been the easiest to get working. TVersity seems to work on and off, but Twonky showed up immediately. Shame it has no transcoding, though, AFAIK.

Start -> All Programs -> TwonkyMedia ?

Also, it seems now that videos have a thumbnail video created automatically..at least, when i copied a video over from my PC, it did that automatically. Which is nice, always had to do that manually before.

BTW, patsu on B3D reports that Remote Play allows you to access content on DLNA devices on your PSP via your PS3. So you can browse your PC media on your PSP just as on PS3 etc.

Hopefully that also works over the internet.

What are you using for BD playback now? 720p or 1080i with Advanced Cinema turned on? (which will get 1080p24, right?)

Yep, I can confirm that. Now I can have all my porn videos on the PC HDD and watch them remotely on the PSP while in the toilet.

Forgot to add it works smoooooothly.

this is a special day for me, I packed up my PS2, it is now dusting in my closet next to my PS1 never to be used again (unless I have the desire to play an import game).

but how do you stream content from your PC to the PS3? is there a simple free way of doing it?

I'm using TwonkyMedia but people are reporting it works with WMP11 too. Sadly I cannot find any Sharing option on that thing.

Indeed, it does. I was surprised how seamless it is in terms of selecting a video and it just playing.

and, oddly, there seems to be a higher ratio of working porn videos than any other type in my collection..

Nice, Twonky worked in a flash. Too bad it's a 30day trial =/

The PS3 doesn't recognize any AVI or WMV files either? =/ =/

I'm a little thrilled at being able to access so much media as is. I've been wanting to do this for ages with my 360, but forcing users to have Vista or a WMC PC always stood in the way.

Alright. Someone tell me they successfully streamed Xvid through Twonky and I am pulling the trigger on a PS3 today.

The DVD upscaling looks fantastic, as does the PS2 filtering.

Hmm...that's really odd. Just downloaded a trailer from the PS Store to see if a thumbnail would automatically be created for it, but no dice. It does it for videos you copy over from your PC though. That seems strange. It'd be nice if it created a thumbnail automatically for every video.

I sort of like having all my media on my PS3 just for those preview thumbnails :p But one thing I'd like to see them add now would be an option to allow you to create a heirarchy for the media on your PS3 HDD. Now I have all this media I can easily copy over, it's a bit weird seeing this mix of game footage, movie trailers and porn thumbnails all together in the same list... :s

I did..that's intriguing. Maybe we're finally seeing the first glimpses of the PSN on PSP. But I'm loathe to read too much into it until we see exactly what's up. When is 3.5 due, anyone know?

Agreed. I'd been using the X360 HD DVD player for my upscaling needs, but I think I'm gonna stick with the PS3 now, if only because it provides the same functionality *without an interface that's loaded with ads even though I'm paying MS $50 a year for Xbox Live*.

It only creates thumbs when you copy them locally (PC > PS3 / Media Storage Device > PS3).

For PS1/PS2 games I have my Upscaler set to Fullscreen with Filtering (Smoothing) on.

For DVD's I've got my Upscaler set to Normal.

I think we need to get a general consensus here on what the best settings are.

You can use any Windows XP machine to stream media to the 360. Tversity and WMP 11 work great. There is software available for the Mac as well.

You'll get an icon on your system tray, so just enable the unknown device when that pops up.

In a little bit you'll see the Windows Media icon appear under each media section of the XMB. Restart the PS3, and you'll be able to see the files in the playlists.

Can you post a pic of that sequence cos I cannot find any sharing option on my (Italian) WMP11 running under Windows XP.

Nevermind I found it on the Microsoft website. Still that option is not present in my WMP11 wtf :(
