That's just for some cursing in a post apocalyptic world filled with murders and monsters. Imagine if ND says that the game will have many set-pieces? O.O
Yeah surprise people are not going crazy over the game having online.

Anyways the Ai sounds pretty damn awesome I wonder how the infected will react.

I hope their reaction is similar to how the I Am Legend "zombies" reacted. Fast, fierce and violent behaviour even if it's not too smart. I hope that they have some basic hunter instincts though, and if we go by the reveal cut-scene and the developers interview saying that it was indeed very representative of the game, then awesome.

We'll see, but like many have said. It sounds terrific on paper so far.

I'm going to include curse words in every fucking post about The Last of Us from now on in honor of this shitty debate goddammit.

I'm a little fucking unsure about multiplayer, to be fucking honest. I don't really see how it would fucking work for this kind of damn game, but we'll see if the good fuckfaces at Naughty Dog are able to make something awesome there.

The details on the single player sound fucking phenomenal though. I can't wait to see some actual gameplay.

My one is concern is the set-pieces. Being that the game will be cinematic I really hope that doesn't mean it will have set-pieces ala Uncharted.

The game is nothing like Uncharted so far, no hollywood jumps and no hordes of enemas you mow down with an Ak.

The game is grounded in reality, well besides the infected anyway. :p

Can't believe this fucking debate even happened.

"People curse in real life but they shouldn't in video games because it has no point blah blah blah"

You gotta be shitting me.

Why not? You have a MGR avatar, that looks set piece jam packed to me.

I do enjoy cinematic games but I don't want to rot my brain with it. I want subtlety sometimes and good atmosphere like Demon's Souls, ICO or Silent Hill. You know game-games.

Yeah it would be odd for ND to just ape the Uncharted formula seeing as how they always change with every IP from Crash to Jak to UC.

-The game has health packs and it takes time to use them, so the added lethality of your weapons goes both ways. This is to encourage you to avoid direction confrontation as much as possible.

The look of the game was inspired by "Ruin Porn", which is a branch of photography where people take pictures of ruins that have been overgrown by nature.

-You will be facing humans more frequently than infected, as humans are the focus of the game. That's why none of the infected were shown in the demo.

Im looking forward to this more than the next Uncharted already... sounds alot like it will be stealthy survival gameplay.

-Second described scenario: They describe a combat scene which makes the game seem pretty melee heavy where you're primarily fighting with things like bricks, fists, and wood planks. Bullets are very scarce, but kill enemies in one shot. The weapons you have and the events of combat also effect the behavior of the AI, which is explained in a later bullet point. Plot wise, in this scene
Joel and Ellie beat the scavengers who attacked them.

Makes me think they took a lesson from the early Yakuza games.

All I want now is just a confirmation on bosses or unique encounters as ND likes to put it.

All in all, it sounds like it will be a better survival horror game than the current Resident Evil.

Main character looks like Drake. Need to go back to drawing board. I also wish they'd use a new engine. I'd always thought these graphics look downrigh ugly in their own way. It doesnt look real but wants to. Its just...odd

You expect ND to throw out one of best engines on PS3 ??
The game look's okay , brighter than UC plus like UC it going get better as time goes on .

He resembles Drake, but not much. He share similiar facial structure, but is physically older, bulky and packs alot of facial hair.

Its just a part of ND's caricaturistic style.

Brimstone

my reputation is Shadowruined

One of the most impressive games I've seen. Also I like that they are focusing on characters to make the single player portion more compelling.

Am I allowed to post the screenshots that are in the GameInformer Digital Issue?

No article text or anything. Just screenshots.

My First Game: Evan Wells - Toejam & Earl In Panic On Funkatron

It also goes in to him working at Crystal Dynamics. CD had an insane amount of talent at one point. It looks like most of those people went to ND.

Yeah, old Crystal Dynamics is mostly spread across Naughty Dog, Sledgehammer, and Visceral these days to my knowledge.

Some have been gravitating back though now that CD is well funded and growing a lot.

No, those are still considered scans as they're from something you have to buy.

got the GI issue yesterday.

I'm really excited for this... but man... I feel like I'm beating a dead horse, but all of Ellie's swearing could get real annoying if not handled right. I know it's a bleak apocalyptic world and everything, life and death situations, heat of the moment, etc. but hearing constant "shit!" and "motherfucker!" from a 14 year old girl... is it really necessary? It's all about execution, of course. They mention the brilliant use of sound (or the lack thereof) in No Country for Old Men... and sometimes just the sounds of struggle can still be chilling without a barrage of curses thrown in from all direction.

Also, thanks (mostly lol) to GAF, her resemblence to Ellen Page is really starting to bother me now. :/
There's that one piece of concept art for her in the mag that looks much better and can't be as easily and shamelessly linked to a Hollywood actress. It's just distracting now. Hopefully it's not too late to adjust her design a little, but what we see is likely what we'll get.

The info in the OP sound pretty good indeed.

I am a bit apprehensive about this "human nature" talk, because i don't think the game (nor the game industry) is willing to go to those lengths, really.
Usually this stuff uses tropes, almost in a methodical way, rather than having a sincere and profound look at the "human nature" in times of desperation.
I was watching that doc about Liberia, Sinatar posted in the OT, and i thought about this, strangely enough.
Could we really have a videogame about such tremendous themes (with the claim of being serious about it), and still worry about having a "fun to play" experience, worry about integrating multiplayer, yadda yadda yadda? I can't see it happen, honestly.

Why not?

Not really sure what so hard abotu achieving that goal.

Eh, still reeling from the way these guys totally misunderstood Jak.

But the concept for this game is admittedly awesome. There's been lots of post apocalyptic games in the past few years, but nothing as extensive as this.

That was a really great interview, sounds like they have a very specific, and very cool vision in mind. It is strange how this and the next BioShock are both tackling the LMNO concept, and I'm glad to see that, it was very promising. I'm pretty pumped.

I thought UC3 was middling, I'm hoping that's because the people who made UC2 incredible was busy doing this.

Great screenshots; kind of gives you an idea of how the game will play. Now's also the time to go on a media blackout.

I hope the gun-handling is intentionally shoddy, ala Silent Hill 1 (Harry was shit with guns because he was a 'normal' guy).

What I mean is, I hope it's not auto-aim or completely steady hand when shooting. It makes every shot mean so much more, especially with limited ammo. It will make players strategize more, ala it's smarter, but riskier, to wait until an enemy gets closer to fire. Or you can shoot from a distance in hopes that it scares your attackers more than physically harms them.

So many elements of this game I hope they nail down to emphasize the survival element and the fatal possibilities of your actions. The potential is just oozing out of this one.

Considering they're missing the watermark from the video, they are indeed something else.

They have to be official images because they're all the same resolution and you get to see the "full" screenshot. The GI pics (from the magazine) cut off some of the images. Like the one where the guy is holding Ellie while Joel is being attacked in the truck.

It's not inherently impossible, but for how videogames have been presented so far (for the most part, anyway) there are a lot of obstructions they have to go through, before they get to the consumer.
In each of these steps, you lose some artistic vision.
It's not something exclusive to videogames ofcourse, every massmarketed product has to go through this, but i see videogames as the worst offenders (compared to books or cinema) as they yet have to offer something really compelling in this sense and branch out more.
-
When i look at the Last of us screenshots and read the bulletpoints, i think it'll be a cool and fun experience to enjoy, but i'm not seriously thinking that the game will be able to profoundly shock me or move me as a person, something that an artistic product dealing with such themes, should be able to do, to a degree.
Ofcourse, all is yet to be seen, and i'd be more than happy to be surprised by this, but i just don't see it coming, is all.
So far, videogames are more concerned with being exciting and cool, than to "say something" (and that's totally fine, btw) and whenever someone hinted at trying something like that (David Cage?), it has been quite the disaster.
There may be a few minor examples of the contrary, although i can't come up with a name myself.

Oop - edited out. Sorry, was writing, when stuburns posted.

unless you guys can give us an emotional ride like Heavy Rain, stop talking about your "vision" about story in games.

we gamers did not start to love and grow up with gaming because we want stories.

what we want from today's games are gameplay that would surpass mechanics from PacMan, Tetris, Sonic 2, Mario Bros., Space Invaders, etc.

as technology progresses shouldn't it be more possible to achieve a higher level of gameplay?

but why is it that old games have better gameplay than games today? SERIOUSLY.

the only game that's remotely close to being a gameplay-centric game is the upcoming Twisted Metal.

all other games are "cinematic" crap. i'd rather read a book if i want a better story. why waste 8 hours playing something for an "excellent" story when i can just buy an excellent book and read it in 6 hours or so.

Have a fun! Enjoy!

It won't. I asked about that and no, it won't have those kind of set-pieces. Devs were very clear about this. Everything they do has to tell something about the characters, has to add something to the story and not be there just for the sake of showing off.

Um...There's a bunch of gameplay details in the OP dude. Also, I don't agree with your assertion that old games have better gameplay than games today.

"Everyone swears constantly during combat, especially Ellie"

That's unexpected...

Still not sure what to think about this game, but I guess it seems cool.

I don't think the article said that did it? I just read it, unless I missed it. More than it shows a few of them swear a few times.
