I wonder if now we know about Ruby and Sapphire, if they will hang about separate now a bit or if Garnet just likes being together too much as one to ever change I would love to learn about their separate personalities a bit more, what makes the two sides of Garnet really tick.

Nah Rose's scabbard.

I felt for her emotionally and appreciated her character more, but I did think the fact that she left Steven hanging at the bottom of those thorn vines without helping him up during her most distraught moment was definitely a poor choice on her part. I know sometimes she has trouble relating to human relationships, but that was uncalled for.

I think they mentioned somewhere about how Ruby and Sapphire were originally gonna formally introduce themselves to Steven earlier before stuff started happening. I'm guessing we'll have episodes that show off their personalities and why they decided to stay fused for so long.

MLP is the new rule 34, or "X the hedgehog" game

To be fair, as discussed earlier, we've also started getting "gemsonas".

Anyway, come to think of it, is there actually a central fansite for Steven Universe that posts both fanart and news like Equestria Daily does for MLP, or is it just scattered tumblrs?

We get the point, no need to keep posting MLP.

Well, one fandom embraced me with open arms. The other slammed the door in my face after giving me the middle finger. Guess which one is which?

Well, a shitty fandom never stopped me from enjoying the source material. Are there any legal ways of streaming SU? Does Cartoon Central have an app at all?

Yeah they were going to surprise him for his birthday.

Yup as mentioned for his birthday, and Steven responds "aw that's OK you can still do it and I'll just pretend to still be surprised" or something like that.

I'm really curious now to learn about Garnet's separate personalities and how they relate to Steven.

Do you want to keep going? Let's start with a simple web search of "My Little Pony." First page has hasbro's official sites, wikipedia, Equestria Daily (nonpornographic), and a facebook group. Second page has ToysRUs, IMDB, Android Apps, wikia, a new story from variety, a reddit account, a know your meme page, and a reddit community (again, non-pornographic). I do get this from a compilation of gifs on the fifth page

giphy.gif

Our kids exposed to lesbian shipping! THE HORROR

No pornographic results in the first ten pages. I'll challenge any of these crocodile-tear spouting bigots to give me just one plausible scenario where a kid accidentally runs across porn with purely innocent search terms. IT wouldn't surprise me if one does exist, but you're going to have to work to find it, which somewhat proves me point

... Dude, no offense, but Google actively went out of their way removed a lot of the porn. After the periphery demographic became prominent, there was totally porn in the first few images for MLP, as well as within the first 2 or so pages of a regular search. If anything, the fact that we're not seeing anything here with MLP proves that there was actually deliberate effort to keep porn out of the first search results.

I'm not trying to slam a door in your face or give you the finger here; so long as you like the show, you're totally welcome here! It's nice to have you, by the way. But I'm just saying, I've seen it with my own eyes: there was definitely a lot of porn showing up in searches for MLP in the past, be it for the series as a whole, or the individual characters.

As for legal ways to watch the show? Cartoon Network does put episodes up on their website the day after they air, but not for too long, admittedly. I've been trying to use Comcast On Demand to keep up with the show, myself. You can also get it off of iTunes, Amazon, and Google.

Yeah they were going to surprise him for his birthday.

Isn't there supposed to be an episode about Steven's birthday coming up? I'm not saying we're going to see Ruby and Sapphire again, but I'm excited by the prospect.

I see in spite being hyper paranoid of those people, this fandom is going to turn into that kind of fanbase.

Interesting to see the ingredients it takes to devolve into that though.

Nobody is really slamming doors shut in this thread as far as I've seen but maybe I didn't look far enough. We just don't need this to turn into a thread filled with MLP or other fandom pics, there's a thread and a community for those

Yeh, the kerfuffle only seems to be happening on Tumblr (and I've personally only seen the overreactions instead of the supposed invasion or whatever, so...). We're pretty chill in here, and it seems like only a couple people actually knew what was going on. :p

You can watch Cartoon Network shows on their website, or through their Watch CN app on iOS and Android (and Kindle/Amazon).

Her discomfort with humanity is funny isn't it. After 6000 some years, you'd think she'd have a better understanding of them.

I think she actually just doesn't care. She might just be protecting earth because of Rose, but beyond that, I suspect she doesn't care all that much about earth or humanity and never even bothered to try understanding them. I mean in, Space Race she seemed pretty willing to leave the planet behind at the first chance she thought she got...

Makes sense when she's so reluctant to interact with humans.

Garnet also shows zero desire to interact with humans outside of what's required. Amethyst seems like the only Crystal Gem besides Steven who has spent time enjoying human culture like food and TV,
probably because she was actually born on Earth.

You guys make a good point,, seems like the Crystal Gems are only really protecting earth in honor of Rose and don't really care for humans that much. We had the episode they were forced to interact with the family and had that sweet beach party, but besides that they don't really make an effort outside of doing it for Steven.

Amethyst buys food at the fry shop and had a stint as an underground wrestler, so she's not quite as distant as the others. Plus, she's the one who spent the most time with Greg before Rose passed away.

Speaking of Greg, rewatching the series makes me appreciate how awesome he is.

Personally, I get the impression that Garnet cares about Earth - at least in an abstract, moral sense - but is stoic on the outside. We literally don't get to see the real dialog going on between Ruby and Sapphire. Perhaps in the future there will be a peak at what Garnet is really "thinking" all the time.

Pearl is the person who really must be doing it for Rose, from pure sense of duty. Pearl actively regards human things as trite. ("Didn't you used to be hunter gatherers? Whatever happened to that?") Humans are beneath her unless she needs something from them, like parts for a device.

Though I wonder if raising Steven will instill the gems with more respect for the planet and humanity. Steven isn't like them. It's more than just being born on Earth. He sees value in all beings and all things, without needing a reason to. In fact, it may be one of his defining traits.

In her song, Garnet refers to Earth as "her planet" so I'd say she's pretty involved with keeping it intact beyond just holding the candle for Rose.

I mean, Steven is 12, right? From the pilot up until Jailbreak we've pretty much seen his beginnings with the Crystal Gems in terms of going with them, they were obviously doing things for the earth in the ~10 years before he started wanted to come with them without Rose there to goad them into it.

That was also a defining trait of his mother. Yet pearl still didn't pick up any love for humanity.

It's clear that pearl put rose on a really special pedestal but in the process I think that maybe she never understood where rose was coming from when she made a stand to protect earth. I have a suspicion that this will turn into some kind of conflict with Steven since he clearly understands his mother in a way that Pearl was never able to despite traveling with her for so long.

Steven is definitely the heart of the team, just like Rose was when she was around. As more time passes it'll be clearer but I can't think of somebody more dangerous to the enemy that somebody that is so likable he can make friends anywhere. Obvious example is Lapis. Steven was so sweet to her she not only warned him multiple times about things, she also 'sacrificed' herself for his sake (and hers).

We actually don't know Steven's age. Apparently it's a guarded secret among the Crewniverse, for spoiler reasons.

Very curious.

I can't think of some age that would be significant but also plausible. Like, what's the big difference between 10,11,12? He isn't 16 so I don't see why it'd be heavily guarded.

Well, you're making the mistake in thinking humans=earth.

As Pearl said, they protect all life on earth ... and part of that is humans but they are just part of it to them.

Amy embraces some human shit cause she grew up on earth and isn't from HW. She eats, she collects human things, she chills with Greg sometimes. According to the comics they all watch TV.

Garnet seems to ... nothing humans. Doesn't feel strongly about them but is respectful and looks out for them. Knows that they're important to Steven and his growth.

Pearl legit doesn't think highly of them. But she does like earth to some extent. She said that one of the things she loves about earth is how a battlefield full of weapons from fallen warriors can become a lush field of strawberries. She also had a favorite tree before HoloPearl cut it down with a balloon ...

I think a good way of looking at it is ... think of people who make it their mission to live in and protect the rainforest from being poached or destroyed. They do it because they feel the land and life there are worth protecting from their peoples ambitions. Does NOT mean they are gossiping with the grizzles and talking to toucans.

The gems have their own culture that they grew up in and their own costumes and beliefs and such. Why would they pretend to not and co-op these peoples culture and dramas and ways? Time means less to them than it does to humans. Pearl was willing to take Steven on a 50 year quick trip in outer space in her lil nutter butter episode.

There's some strange inconsistency with the whole thing ...

He looks younger there ... head full of hair, right?
767b74af72ba8c7335170baadc433c01.jpg

He looks his current age here ... in a pic with Rose. Where did all his hair go? Looks fatter to.

There's also the fact that Steven doesn't know what school is. He knows how to read but doesn't know that books in a series have an order until Connie tells him.

I think Steven's actually younger than he looks and that it took Rose a MUCH longer time to make Steven then normal. He can control is age so maybe he just passively aged himself up for some reason. I mean ... where DID Greg raise Steven? He lives in a damn car and the Gems did NOT want him crashing with them.

Huh interesting. I wonder why that is?
Then again with the "So Many Birthdays" he's seems to have the ability to control how he ages.

Just finished On The Run. Honestly got a little teary-eyed when
Amethyst hugged Pearl after she said she was the one good thing to come from the Kindergarten.
Damn, this show is so good.

I love that the reason they're keeping Steven's age a secret isn't because of some plot or story element, but because of a gag. I can't wait!
Time seems to be passing in the series so it stands to reason that we will get to Steven's Birthday eventually. Wonder what present Garnet will get him now :p

In the blog post they say "a year and a half" and that was in the spring of 2014, so it'll probably be this summer or fall? *vibrates with anticipation*

I really need to check out this series. A couple of good friends had done some work on the production side of things, and it definitely looks pretty.

Thinking back. When Malachite
was going to attack I was actually expecting Steven to fuse with all Three to take her on. Interesting that so far there doesn't seem to be a limit of how many Gems can fuse together as with Garet being two seperate Gems they have fused 4 Gems together. Be interesting if Steven Fuses with them to defeat White Diamond.
