Madoka had the potential from the get go to an infinite number of characters, Monogatari instead has a finite cast which doesn't fit at all the gacha business model.

I watched both series, but Monogatari has more characters and the world feels bigger to me at least. While Madoka had potential, it was still a show about two characters and 3~4 secondaries characters that weren't that relevant.

Obviously, MagiReco proves I was wrong. People are interested in more characters and stories using that world and it's concepts. I just felt like Monogatari had more to offer in the mobile space as you have many different kinds of characters with their own arcs and fanbases (Senjougahara fans, Nadeko fans, Shinobu fans) like the Fate franchise.

Anyway, Kirara Fantasia could be really big. Kirara manga and anime are popular and they already confirmed huge stuff like GochiUsa and New Game for it.

One such example is this - Kirara Fantastia which is a Hobunsha / Aniplex / Drecom developed game releasing sometime this year hopefully published by Aniplex which happens to feature Yunocchi from Hidamari Sketch which Iwakami's produced and other Kirara properties like New Game.
https://appmedia.jp/kirarafantasia/854181

Game itself looks like a light hearted fantasy romp with Kirara characters with fun scenarios - I expect a quest where Aoba et al from New Game fighting enemy characters they produced in the series.

Aniplex also has been producing well received Sword Art Online movies but I remember that Bandai Namco have the game rights so I don't foresee Aniplex picking that up

Kirara Fantasia actually really seems to be getting hype in Japan. Many fans especially older anime fans really liked many of those anime properties and they really wanted to get the characters.

The rest depends on devs to make the gameplay attractive to retain the players.

Interested in seeing how that goes. Feels like a bigger deal than 3D Land and itís portable.
Iím hoping the 3D series at least helped some adapt more to 3D gameplay. I think that was part of the point

Japan is getting this too, 50k yen.

Bundle of the first game wasn't released in Japan, this is also the first Pro bundle of note.

Also with this all big PS4 games for the rest of the year are getting bundles.

Aniplex and Kodansha are already coming out with a monogatari smart phone game but it's a match 3 puzzle game not a FGO RPG type which indicates to me that Nisioisin isn't writing a service game over multiple years length story.

http://monogatari-pucpuc.jp

Pity, as Nisioisin will certainly be able to create new characters and worlds in that universe with the requisite number of twists and tooth brush type situations to keep users engaged.

Also, Shaft getting more work lol (they are doing Magia Record's magical girl transformations)

Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara miru ka, Yoko kara miru ka? I have watched the original movie from the 90's, but not the remake this year. It looks okay, but not 2000• okay. The time travel is not in the original, just the parallel universe.

That i agree. The fear of more casual fans on 3d world is going to be the big factor on whether Odyssey can do really well or not.

There is a reason why i would like a return on 2.5D like 3D world or 3D land as that is easily the most accesible 3d mario for most casual fans.

Sony Music Entertainment (SME) announced that they will start publishing games under the label "Unties". Their first title will be Tiny Metal for PS4/NSW/PC which will be releasing on November 21, 2017 in Japan. They will also be publishing Last Standard (PC/etc), Merkava Avalanche (PC/etc) and Deemo -Reborn- (PS4/PSVR).

I just felt like Monogatari had more to offer in the mobile space as you have many different kinds of characters with their own arcs and fanbases (Senjougahara fans, Nadeko fans, Shinobu fans) like the Fate franchise.

The lore of Madoka is that there were hundreds if not thousands of magical girls since the beginning of human history, the anime just shows present stuff but from the get go it always had a potential similar to the Fate series (it's also a terrible depiction of women because every important woman in history HAD to be a magical girl according to them <_<)
Since the TV series they also extended the cast of Madoka through other medium.

Monogatari has a few problems, it has a finite cast with characters that got lengthy developped across multiple hundreds pages books, every possible character mentioned has already appeared at this point and they can't just create dozens of random characters for a mobile game like that either considering the format and they can't pick something from other lores (like Fate is doing with legends across the world, I'm not familiar with the extended cast of Magia Records).

It's basically a character driven history whose lore doesn't fit the gacha model and who hasn't been there long enough to produce a big enough cast either

Take Tales of for example whose games are a very character driven, they were able to create gacha mobile games (3 of them even) because it's a 20 years old series with a dozen of main entries and a few spin-off with a total roster surpassing 100 characters.
Monogatari has what? 20-25 characters? That's nowhere near enough.

Fighting is also not a central theme at all, which brings the problem of what gameplay could fit the IP (and probably why they ended up making a puzzle game), you could bruteforce some kind of fighting gameplay regardless, but using a form of gameplay that doesn't fit the IP is more than often a recipe for failure.

So you can't use the characters for gacha, you can't use the gameplay that most gacha games used, what's left then?

That's so strange considering tiny metal is very obviously inspired by advanced wars, I wouldnt even be surprised if it was made for a nintendo system in mind.

The top paragraph and art shows them as Area 35, the copyright shows them as Area 34. :P

Edit: Also Sony Music doesn't equal Sony Interactive (PlayStation). Sony Music publish some Nintendo soundtracks like Xenoblade Chronicles X IIRC in Japan.

PoPoLoCrois though, THAT'S Sony Interactive Entertainment (formerly Sony Computer Entertainment, as shown on the 3DS game's copyright section). :P

There isnt that much competition in the genre, so it being the worse you played isnt really saying that much though. I agree however that the demo wasnt all that, it didnt capture me that much, but the full game was awesome. I played the demo for maybe 1 hour or so (personally i'm not really a fan of demos in general though, i usually want the full experience at once), but i played the full game for several hundres of hours, the same goes for Soul Sacrifice Delta. Once i learned the game and had access to all the features, it was really fun to play. Loved the story telling as well, the history behind all the monsters. Alice's Eternal Maze in Soul Sacrifice Delta was also a great addition :)

Yep, but it sure took them awhile to get something out there. All we've had so far are NISA-only late port announcements; Touhou Kobuto V, Penny Punching Princess, and Longest 5 Minutes. The first one isn't by N1 internally though. Also all those were announced before summer IIRC.

Apparently the slowdown and leveling off of the Japanese mobile market has been greatly overstated, as it's grown 35% year over year: https://www.appannie.com/en/insights...-games-market/

Mobile games now also account for 85% of game revenue in Japan.

It's worth noting that the top 10 apps represent 40% of game revenue this year, but that should still leave around... $5-$6 billion or so in revenue for everyone else.

Japan presents a compelling and growing opportunity for publishers of mobile games. Mobile gaming revenue in Japan grew approximately 35% year over year in the 12 months ending June 2017, surpassing that in the US for three years in a row.

I'll be putting up a full thread soon, but here are some graphs that are more relevant to financial discussion (along with a few engagement numbers). There's a bunch about what people are downloading at the link if you're curious.

I'm curious to see if Lineage 2 Revolution pushes the market to new heights.

It significantly grew every other market it went in, and has been top 10 (and often top 5) in Japan nigh continually since release.

It's also a genre that hasn't had much presence on mobile, especially in Japan, as it's a full on MMO. All this despite being a foreign game to boot.

Maybe Square Enix should pour even more money into Nexon's Final Fantasy XI reimagining.

It's not like they had much choice. Handheld has been important for them since the PSP. Hopefully, NIS can expand their audience a bit by being on both PS and Nintendo right now, rather than PS home console and PS handheld. Their recent projects didn't do too well (with Coven and Yomawari being the exceptions). I can see NIS porting over their PS4-only projects to Switch sometime in the future.
