Honestly, no, it's glacial.

I used to check GAF daily, now I go days without bothering to think about it .

The best thing about this site was on-the-pulse reporting of news either gaming or otherwise, now it's just like every other forum, only slower and aimless.

Although it does seem the site can leave it's drama behind, it's not going to come close to returning to it's lustre.

Thankfully, a new era rises.

Yes, I’d been having trouble focusing and considered leaving GAF in order to fix that. So the board slowing down has helped in that respect, and there’s a lot less negative crap taking up mental space.

Well yeah there was thousands of people posting on the site at any given time before, now it's much less.

The bright side is that Gaf won't collapse on next E3 when someone drops megatons.

Like it's slower since let me follow better some threads but recognize this hurts the overall forum.

Near exactly four days ago, I made a post in a thread in the Off-Topic Community that no one responded to. And that thread finally dropped to page 2 just recently. That's too damned slow.

I'm clicking on this place less and less and when I do the main page stays almost exactly the same. I don't know what amazing discussions are taking place in these threads with 8 posts because I'm just not seeing it. This place certainly isn't an echo chamber anymore because you actually need people to make enough noise for it to echo out.

Exactly this. If there's amazing new heights of discussion taking place, I want to know where it's hidden.

No. I'll continue to hold on to my account, but things around here seem dead. Not the first time I've seen a forum die.

If GAF survives, cool, if not I can move on.

This is a perfect example of topic that was much worse in old gaf. Hundreds of shock and awe and outrage posts are not interesting to sift through. What we have now is more manageable.

Agreed 100%.

This is only the second time I've visited today and I don't feel like I have to spend another 45 min trying to catch up, lol.

(No topic on Blizzcon tho).

It's still far busier than the majority of the forums I use, especially specialised ones.

I think it will pick up in time. Hopefully for the better.

Yeah its going to take time as said before. But this thread shows if people see something they wanna talk about they'll talk lol. It's just a matter of getting these people to post in other threads.

And yes its missing a lot of diary entry type threads or people asking for help/advice.

Yeah some people used this like twitter for themselves.

Definitely not happy with the new gaf, but I was getting being tired of the old version as well. The peak days of like 5-10 years ago are pretty far behind, no doubt about it.

The lack of content is pretty disappointing, specifically news (game and otherwise). On the other hand, the past year it was getting pretty unbearable anyway with all the general drama, dog piling, and shit posting. If anything, I do feel somewhat refreshed now that that's largely gone.

I do miss the communities which is what brought me here to begin with. Retro gaming, indie development, even general talk about tech like the state of VR and such. All gone. If people continue to bring up and discuss such things, I'm excited to participate.

As for joining another forum, it's not in my interest. I've not looked at the other place and am happy to stay away. I hope people get whatever they need from it, but personally I just see it being more of what I am not interested in. If gaf curls up and dies for real (or continues on with a slow death) then I can make peace with spending less time online. Probably not the worst thing in the world.

Oh its an echo chamber alright. You can hear the echo for hours.

That really depends. If you wanted to follow a thread you could simply put it on watch. That being said it led to my account finally being approved after 5 months. Shame that I couldn't post before it all went down.

Is that how long it was taking to get approved?

Crazy if you think about it. Especially with the moderation on here banning people for the smallest of infractions.

No wonder some posters claim they were scared of giving their real opinion on here.

I do wonder if the 'other' forum will go the same way with long approval times.

There were two main reasons I lurked/browsed GAF. The insightful and entertaining discussions on games (MamaRobotnik research threads as an example), and the convenience of having gaming news presented in one place.

Obviously these aspects are lacking now that most of the content creators have moved on but the slower pace does make things easier to follow. A good chunk of my GAF time was spent browsing archived gaming threads anyway so I don't mind how things are but I can't say the site is in a healthy state as of now.

I said dayum.

...so you miss EVERY thread.

It's too slow here, but I don't miss the toxic people who left. I'm ready for the new wave.
Bring on the juniors Evilore!
Lmao you've definitely been around and active long enough to make those kinds of claims.

It's a shame that those toxic people also took 90% of active posters with them. But hey, at least we get to... err... not talk about politics? Or anything else?

And so another active forum member from the 'other' site posts porn on here.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

I sometimes think I should take a break from this site until it finally gets back to normality, but I suppose that's what they want.

Forum wars are real.

It is dead and this is sad.

I come here because it is fast, because that means a huge amount of content to browse, read through or get involved in. If a thread has ten posts in a day, there is no content and so no reason to be here for very long. It needs to pick up, and it will, but finding 20k new user that are or will be as active as those who left will be difficult to achieve with any haste. New members will mostly need time to settle into a posting habit and stop lurking, those that do not we are seeing here now. A few faces already stand out as regular type posters and it is people like this that are required to populate the discussions. 200K new members are useless if they are lurkers. I guess it's also on remaining old gaf to pick up the lack of threads. New users after all cannot make them.

It's still fun to post here.

Some aspects are event better. Just asked about phone purchase advice yesterday and got a ton of replies. A month ago I would have gotten 2 posts because everyone would have been too busy talking about the latest Trump tweet.

I'd give the other forum a try but they need a paid emial (no longer have access to the one I used to register here) and I won't buy an email address just to join

ITT: people would rather talk about nothing if it means that there's no political talk

I'll check back next week to see if there are more than 20 additional replies to this board.

Too slow, but as a one a day poster I'm probably not helping. I read pretty quickly so a one or two page thread It's only enough for 2-4 minutes of reading.

I've lurked longer than I'm even willing to admit. I remember freemacusers before he took his clothes off. Yuck, btw.
I'm fine with not talking religion or politics. They're the most divisive things on this planet.

I don't live in GAF.

I stick around for a longer time when I'm in some heated argument, but most of those opponents left, so I like it better when I don't have to deal with them.

NBA-gaf is completely dead! and I don't see any sign of it getting better. Same goes for whole OT actually. This site will become more a niche forum when it's all said and done.

The communities were the heart of this place. If new members and lurkers don't step up and start new ones, this place will only be shell of its former self.

I can understand those who bemoan the floundering communities they were once parts of but I can't relate. I'm too lazy/have no interest in belonging to sub communities because, for the most part, I prefer to lurk and don't spend very much of my day on GAF. The only advice I can give is to either carry the banner onward yourself and foster something here, or seek established communities on whatever forums they call home. There's no rule against being a GAFer and a member or some other forum. Sure it'd be nice to have a one stop shop, but when push comes to shove there's no reason you can't have your cake and eat it too.

It's noticeably slow and this is coming from a long time lurker. I use to lurk in OT where there was so much conversation now it's a ghost town.

Maybe it'll pick up soon at least I hope so.

well that's because most of that was really from all the political users, and all the OT's. But now that it's gone really not much activity gonna be there.

I've been a long time lurker and member for over ten years and the pace now is making it hard to stay. I liked the quick hot takes on the gaming side that would provide me with entertainment during my lunch. Now there's this tainted feeling to the atmosphere here...
