XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Valve restricting store region changes was done to clamp down on cross-region purchasing. The point is moot, though, as you don't need to change your store region to unlock a game early.

I've never purchased any game I own on Steam using a VPN but I unlocked quite a few titles early. I sure hope it will be doable in the future as well.

JaseC for the rescue. So my vpn of choice should do the trick. Puh... Was panicking there for a second. Speaking of vpn of choice... which one would you recommend? And do I have to keep it running while playing? Or should I just go offline?

Have to say I panicked as well too.

Sarcastically comparing the best of ClassicCOM to ShitCOM.

The game wasn't that bad, at least I could see it through the end.
It sure is a lost opportunity though.

Guys, I want to vote Commander/Bradford ticket, but the more I look at it the more I realize I really like what the Advent Administration has done for urban infrastructure and bioscience funding. Besides, I'm pretty sure the "Avatar" thing is just a political smear campaign.

Love the OP!

Weak title tho.

Ok, GAF.
Questions about your very first playthrough.

1. Difficulty? Ironman or no?
2. How do you plan to customize soldiers? Silly? Serious? Real People? Not customize?
3. Will you create some characters on the character pool before playing or let everyone be born on the battlefield?
4. Long War Studio mods? Yay or nay?
5. Do you have an epitaph ready for your very first casualty?

1. Veteran or the next one up, depending on how my mood is. And yes to Ironman, because otherwise I generally forget to save and have to repeat hours of the game at a time <_<

2. Not customize, generally; I like my guys to seem like they picked out their own stuff. If I get an idea I might go for that, though. Plus color coding for classes at low ranks.

3. Born on the battlefield!

4. Yay. At least to the Muton Centurion, not sure about the Leader and SMG until how they fit into the balance of things becomes clear. Leader especially could be broken depending on how those class abilities work.

5. Here Lies the Unknown Rookie. They had a name but nobody cared.

1. I have to play Ironman, bugs be damned. I'll cave in and reload saves constantly otherwise.

Difficulty is still undecided. I keep hearing conflicting reports of Veteran behing harder AND easier than normal in EU.

2. Main Ranger Takeru Shirogane - last time I did this he lived through Classic Ironman. Specialist and Sharpshooter (sniper) as two of my friends (they both ended up being ridiculous on my original playthrough of EU). Will definitely use that Jake Solomon preconfigured guy.

Other than that I have names and color schemes that I frequently use in mech games to quickly identify the roles assigned to units. It applies to XCOM too.

3. I might make a few tomorrow morning before work while I eat breakfast or something. But I need to get right into it.

4. Nah. Second playthrough maybe.

5. peperony and chease

I will play the game in the easiest way possible because I love playing round based strategy but I am terrible at it
I usually name my soldiers after historical personalities

1. Probably Normal, just to get a feel for the game.
2. Probably just armor, might go a little silly with that.
3. Random characters for the first playthrough.
4. Probably the SMG, then I'll add the others in later playthroughs.
5. Nope, I like to actually base my epitaphs on in-game events, so if the person sucked, it'll be immortalized.

I do not want to highjack this thread but the performance thread isn't up yet and I think people would like to know more about performance because of TBs warnings (and at least this is a PC exclusive game so it's not completely out of place).

There are 5 presets Minimum, Low, Medium, High, Maximum.

The game seems to run fine on a gtx 970 (~59fps) and 390 (~65fps) on the High preset. The maximum preset needs around 4.2 gb of VRAM because of 8xMSAA and runs like shit on most GPUs (no big surprise here). A gtx 980 seems to be able to handle the maximum preset with turned down MSAA to 2x.

All infos are from the latest (?) steam review build.
More infos and some graphs here...

Omg you can turn that shit off?

I WISH I KNEW THIS
One of my favorite things about Long War is it stripped out all this unnecessary fluff (including the pod reveal animations, which I was sick of after a few hours). I can't wait for a mod that does the same.

But yeah, given that the action cam is apparently what's causing a lot of buggy behaviors in XCOM 2, I'll probably turn it off from the start.

I thought we were going with XCOM 2 |OT| 95% Chance to hit consoles.

Someone mentioned it in the other thread :(

I won't be able to grab this for a couple weeks sadly.

Not bad, I can live with high. 8xMSAA is overkill to me anyway.

The loadings though...eek

Während ein neuer Einsatz bei XCOM: EW zum Beispiel in unter zehn Sekunden lädt, was nicht weiter stört, dauert das bei XCOM 2 auch gerne einmal 35 bis 40 Sekunden.

35 to 40 seconds to load, though they did not test SSDs.

My laptop specs are in and around the "Recommended" mark. CPU is a little slow. I'll try High with FXAA on and AO off and see what happens.

I wonder how it runs with MFAA instead of MSAA.

Hope my 780 Ti is up to task... I'll prolly do a mix of high and max playing with the AA settings at 2x and 4x.

Thank god, I installed this on an SSD, so that should help a bit. Can't wait after work?

It's alright if we use a VPN to play early correct?

Apparently they are missing a few hardware pieces, if I'm not mistaken. Somebody asked about the Fury card too.

I think we are...I'm not 100% sure though.

Pretty weird that they missing these hardware bits, especially they are a hardware magazine. But we can soon test it ourselves.

Just a note about performance: The highest graphics preset turns on 8xMSAA which is why the performance seems so bad. Don't use the presets, go custom and turn that down or off.

That was my intention, the AA method seems the most demanding of the whole bunch.
