Yes. Are you sure you're not actually taking screenshots? It's not like it gives you any feedback when you press the note button (aside from maybe the Memory Stick access light flickering).

I don't think I do. At least, I can't find the screenshots on the XMB nor in my memory stick. There's not even a folder called SCREENSHOT. Maybe it's my firmware or something, it's kinda old.

Then try to update the firmware. The cfw works with the newest firmware, so you shouldn't get any problems. But I guess this is getting a bit off topic, so let's take the discussion to the cfw thread if updating doesn't work.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2.

I'm now the regional champion in most places, so I don't have to worry so much about area control. Tried to beat one of those Moon towers but I couldn't come up with a good strategy for the last fight so I fled. I miss Adelle, I want her back in my party. I hate when games do this to me. Anyway, 177 missions completed, not sure if I'll be doing them all since I really want to get back to Tales of the Abyss. I might do some more side missions, complete the story and then come back to the game after I beat TotA. Did I mention that I love monks? I love monks.

I've just beaten Hecatoncheir. It was being the easiest boss until he became an earthquake machine and all my glass cannons died horribly. The only survivor was Refia and then an artic wind saved my life. It's "funny" how Refia is now the person that takes less damage. I've decided Ingus will be my ninja, but is there a much better job for Arc than Ranger?

It seems I need to grind, all magic attacks from bosses (nearly) kill my group except Refia. Leviataaaaaaaaan!!!!!! I thought level 39 was enough to beat it, but its flood said otherwise. I'm too scared to go to fight Doga and Unei and I don't know what to do. I'm thinking about replacing Ranger as Arc's job but I don't know what to choose.

At this point, this game isn't very fun for me. There isn't much strategy and I hate these random turns, the bosses only have the powerful magic attack and the physical attack, the characters can only be damaged three times before they die, reviving a character is pretty difficult, elixirs are the only option to replenish MP during dungeons, enemies usually have that nasty petrifying attack... That stupid aquatic snake has made me a whiner, but I'm frustrated!!! (And the lack of save points anger me too).

Well, first of all, Leviathan is an optional boss that is tougher than lots of others. As for Doga and Unei, at level 39, you really shouldn't be having any problems. Ranger isn't very good where you are in the game at all, and for Doga in particular, physical attacks work well, so you should consider taking knights and monks to the battle. Unei is a pushover as long as you can heal up after she uses her attack that takes people down to critical health.

alright, all this NES FF3 talk has tempted me to diving into this game again. I played the DS version, and it was my least favorite FF by far, but that was mostly do to the jaggy graphics, and other terrible modern Squeenix game design elements.

I was just about to download the iOS version. It's like $15 though. I love gaming on my iPhone though.

So what do you guys think? Should I play the NES version? What are the major differences other than being faster, etc?

Yes, you should play the NES version. The major differences are outlined in my playthrough posts... but the highlights are the difference in job change system (using CP instead of a debuff), better balanced encounters with more enemy variety and number, and different job distribution throughout the game (i.e. you don't get thief at the start of the game on NES). There's lots of other smaller stuff too.

Is it possible to beat FF4 DS without getting any of the augments? I'm at the last part and it's ridiculously hard, seems like it's that way because I didn't pick up the augments.

You guys inspired me to finish my play through of IX that I started back when that came on PSN. I still absolutely love that game. Necron's still an absolute bastard, though. I had some good immunities, but each character was missing one or two, and it seems Necron knows exactly which ones. I lost twice in a row pretty much instantly when he did Grand Cross. I had one death, one petrify, one stop, and one zombie (something like that anyway). Very frustrating. I switched out Zidane for Freya and had a final party of Freya, Vivi, Eiko, and Amarant and finally beat him. My strategy was to have Freya jumped before he did grand cross. It worked! Luckily, Eiko too only got something that was debilitating for a few turns, so when Freya came back down I could quickly heal up. Only used elixirs and tried to focus on doing as much damage as quickly as I could. Vivi had reflect x2 and auto-reflect on, so that did quite a bit. He didn't get off another grand cross.

Yep, totally possible, and several people did it because they didn't even understand the augment system. The augments will definitely make it easier, though, obviously.

The start of world three is kind of boring, but does feature some of the game's best lines. In a slightly familiar situation, a bridge is built for you. Awesome music doesn't play for you this time, and it's obsoleted within minutes anyway.

Shortly after that, a familiar face. Or two. Spoiler: Exdeath isn't dead. (You might have inferred this by the way the game isn't over yet.)

Anyway, the plot forces you to go to the next dungeon before doing much else. There's an insanely missable bardsong in the library, It's gone forever if you don't get it before you finish said dungeon.

Next time: What's in a pyramid?

I'm finishing up XIII-2 and playing IV on PSP. I'm thinking of starting up Either V or VI afterwards. Which would be better/recommended to play on:
PS1 or
GBA (emulator)?

I'm thinking maybe I should pick up where I left off in VIII just to get it done. I've been wanting to play all the FF's so bad I can't stick to just one or two games at a time. I need like 5!

If you have a choice, don't play the PS1 versions of either FF5 or FF6; both are awful, with super-messed-up audio and atrocious loading times, plus FF5 has a bad translation to boot. The GBA versions of both are far superior.

The iOS version is the same as the DS one, though, and you already said you didn't like that.

I know :( I don't really game outside of my iPhone though and I like playing during my commute etc.

Are they exactly the same? Is the iOS version faster than the ds version or anything like that?

Thanks for the response. I was a little frustrated about wasting time fighting all the monsters in that cave and then dying. My Arc is now a karateka for the HP bonus and is the most powerful of the group. I don't know if I should change him back to a magic class later or if it's better to have only Refia as a Sage.

Yes! Thanks to Jucksalbe, I can FINALLY take screenshots. I noticed they're not as crisp as his, I think it has to do with my screen ratio, I play it slightly zoomed in.

I was tasked with escorting Cid to Canaan.

PkrP8.png

One problem: huge boulder is in the way. Thankfully, we have a plan. Ram our airship into it.

AuL6W.png

What could go wrong?

6exSP.png

Oh.

Thankfully, we're alright, but Cid's airship is gone. He'll build a new one I'm sure.

LqTpH.png

This is my party by the way:

YHn5o.png

I wasn't planning on using a Red Mage (or Wizard as he's called in this translation), but he was the only one who could use the sword against the undead. One question: is there a way to forget spells? I found the Fire spell, but my wizard already had three spells (cure, blind, ice). Can I still learn fire somehow? Also why is Cid red on the overworld but blue in the menu |:

Eureka bosses were relatively easy (there were a few Ingus and Luneth deaths but thanks to arise those were less problematic than ealier). What is the recommended level to beat the game? I'm 46 and I don't want to be killed after a loooooong dungeon. My biggest problem is the magic defence. I think the protect ring increases it, are there any more of it?

Sorry, I just checked and it doesn't look like it. Checked the in-game options and title screen and there doesn't seem to be any language option there.

I think it has to do with your system language, at least as far as Chrono Trigger is concerned.

Is there some kind of (free) program that let's me automatically cut out a specific portion of an image and save it in a new file, preferably over multiple files?
Thing is, I really don't like the amount of black borders in all my screenshots of FF3 (and soon other older games I'd play on PSP), but removing them by hand on every single image is too much work.

Irfanview has batch cropping.
Here is how.

Thanks to a few level ups and my new Eureka toys I've destroyed that evil water snake and its friend Bahamut. Ingus couldn't recieve EXP thanks to petrification. I don't know if this happened so much in the original, but in this game enemies petrify too much for my taste.

I suppose I'll grind a little before going to the tower to defeat the baddies (level 49).

Just tried this out the other way: my phone language is in Japanese and the game switches to English when I switched my phone language to English! Awesome! I don't mind playing in Japanese but Ive only plays ff3ds in Japanese. I wanted to dl it in English but couldn't figure out how. Should breathe life or at least be a semi new experience this Time :)

Oh another tip for ff2: try to heal yourself before you stay at an inn. It will be cheaper!

Been playing FF5 recently.

Played it once way back as a kid and really forgot a lot about it... But going back to it, it's a great great game that hits a lot of emotional highs and lows with limited text. Kind of refreshing to play an RPG where you don't have to get hit over the head with something hundreds of times. Really enjoying it. Having the Bard as a party member and his ability to hide is such a clever touch that attaches you to the character

Just got the twins. Gonna keep playing

Just finished Ceodore's quest in The After Years. Is there any sort of "recommended order" for the rest of the missions? Because, frankly, I have no idea where to begin. @_@

Really enjoying the extra dungeons on the PSP Final Fantasy (I know they were also in the GBA version, except the Labyrinth of Time!) Great value for £3.99 and a lovely remake.

It's not really a big deal which order you play them in, except I'd suggest doing Kain and The Lunarians' Tales last unless you want some rather big plot points spoiled.

But this is the order the Tales were originally released in...

Rydia
Yang
Palom
Edge
Porom
Edward
Kain
The Lunarians

I'm currently playing through Final Fantasy II on Super NES. What a great game. I played through it several times back at release. I remember leaving the game at the title screen just to hear the music. I also did this when on the moon.

Killed by that filthy Cloud of Darkness. This walkthrough is over, I can't go through 2 stupid dungeons with 5 bosses only to die because that thing spams that attack again and again.

I'm so sad... I don't have words. But luckily, I like the next games much more. At this moment this game would have went down in my FF ranking if it weren't in the bottom already. :(

After getting my ship back in Amur, I finally had the chance to explore the new world by air.

zoixv.png
J1a53.png

First stop: the Summoner's village Leprit. Not much to do here since I don't have any Summoners, but at least someone's gives a clue that's sure to be important sometime in the future.

2QuxN.png
RlLcZ.png
4g0WN.png

Found a cave. Let's take a look inside. There isn't much to find here, the random encounter is always the same annoying monster and the path is blocked by some adamantite rocks. I wonder if a bunch of Long Guis died here.

Another cave. Nothing to do here either. I guess I should remember them, though.

One more stop: the village of Dastar, the village of Bards. They give you a couple of hints about (optional?) dungeons. One of them seems to be headbanging to Crazy Chocobo.

rPiB3.png
TzNjj.png
1mxVe.png

And finally a trip to the big city. They're so glad to see me, they don't want to let me go anymore. The airship's done for, a shame about the nice family heirloom of Argass.

swfYr.png

They seem to be playing Archon at the castle.

EstwC.png

They don't want to let me inside the castle, so it's time for a stroll around the city. It surely is one big city and with my bad memory, I can't remember any city this big in FF until FF VII.

It seems that the fight with Garuda is coming up. They're almost forcing you to use Dragoons now. You can find a bunch of equipment which is exactly for four dragoons, you can only buy at the weapon shop that sells spears exclusively, you even get a free Fat Chocobo.

zjPCl.png
uoPei.png
qwyLS.png

And there it is. It sure does look....big. My party now transformed to a full Dragoon force, each equipped with two Winds Spears.

2sblz.png
LdKC6.png

So, let's get this started. First: rescue the banished prince to get access to the castle.

MUy4Y.png
TyDqM.png

Bringing the prince also gives the king the courage to fight the control of Gigames (is this supposed to be Gilgamesh?), which then starts the long awaited fight with Garuda.

6YJw4.png

So, how bad can this famous Thunder attack really be? It's bad, really bad, and he's also fast, I never had more than two of my Dragoons jump before he strikes. But I can hit him, too, hard.

jZ2Kj.png
FALA2.png
HCR4e.png

And in true Arino-esque fashion, I killed him at the very last moment. Another attack and my final Dragoon would have been done for. :)

It seems there's still a lot to do.

Like plundering the castle's treasure. What's with all the rusted equipment, by the way?

I've got a new airship! Cid would be so proud. But that's enough for today

Playing through Rydia's Tale. I guess they decided that not enough castles were blown up during IV, so they decided to make up for it in The After Years.

Awesome, thanks. Now my phone has some use other than to txt and call. I've always had this feeling that FF5 (ps1) was sorta just messed up since I had trouble saving during my first and only 3 hours of playing. So I dont mind replaying it w.o the save issue.
