Online Dating |OT| Please Respond

A lot of people are just looking for long term fwb type of situations. They're not ready for marriage but they don't want to go trolling for ass every weekend at the club. And making a commitment while you're on school and you might not even stay in the state afterward is kinda hard.

Then be up front about that, you know? Don't say you're looking for something long term and don't want "casual hookups." Maybe it's because you have to say that or you'll get a ton of messages, but it's so damn frustrating.

I'm not ready for marriage by a long shot. I'm looking for some sort of relationship, but I want to have fun and stuff, too.

This sounds patronizing as hell, but I've been the same way, so I know where they're coming from:

I think a lot of the girls in these circumstances have an idea that they want some sort of relationship, but when they realize what that entails, they don't have the time/energy to go through with it.

I'm pretty damn laid back when it comes to dating. I probably text a couple times a day with someone I'm seeing, but I try to give them some space.

Are people using their real name as username or some random username?

I got stumped before i even register an account in Okcupid. XD

You could try habitat for humanity. Very social event

Go to nyc.gov and search for volunteering. Eventually you'll find a page that has a list of all the volunteer organizations in the city. I used to volunteer at a place called the All Stars Project so that might be a place of interest for you. Stopped volunteering for personal reasons but plan on looking for another organization. One obvious place you can volunteer at is at a park picking up litter.

And again, even though I have it in the OP, I highly recommend meetup.com as a means of new people. Although your mileage may vary in terms of finding groups that you gel with as they can feel clique-ish. Or organize/go to a GAF meet up.

I started putting time into http://foodbanknyc.force.com . Very simple, just sign up and show up. No paperwork or interviews.

I run around the Harlem gig btw.

Thanks. I will look into all of them. I have a lot of free time this summer and wouldn't mind helping others. The food bank sounds great since it looks like you don't need to sign up a minimum amount of hours over a given time frame.

I'm using my GAF name on OKC. :D
Tinder makes you use your real first name.

Speaking of volunteer work, I'm chatting with someone on OKC that does volunteer work. It's been something I've been wanting to do myself so I will probably look into the links y'all provided. I told her I'm goin out of town this weekend and she said just msg her when I get back and we'll work out when we can date.

Just got done chatting with a girl on Tinder. About 10 messages in and I asked her out and she said yeah. She had to go to bed though so she told me to msg her tomorrow to work out a time. I'll have to tell her the same thing that I'll be busy this weekend.

I'm going to line up two possible dates next week. I'm still looking for one that's going to last to the 2nd date lol.

I had 3 OKC dates in 6 days.

Exhausting to say the least, combined with the fact that it was a holiday weekend.

#3 was okay. I'm usually good about weeding out bad angles/pictures, but I was wrong with those one. Yowza. She's nice and friendly enough, but not for me.

We met up for a second time and I was drunk and I took her home with me. Whoops :|

Has anyone had success from Hot or Not?

I hate to break it to you, but what she means is that she's not interested enough in you.

Otherwise, she will make the time. Obviously. If she was really busy, she wouldn't have been looking in the first place.

That truth bomb even stinged me and it's not even with me lol, I just didn't wanted to say it. Backslashbunny is right tho she gave you the " it's not you but it's me" excuse, plus you better off without her. So keep your head up patjburns89 you'll find someone who's actually worth your time cold people outthere brah.

At least be happy she told you and didn't ignore you. I always appreciate it when girls just say they're not interested, at least it's out there and we can both move on instead of that lingering feeling.

Starting to try this online dating nonsense one more time.

Determined to get a date out of it. It has to be possible.
I don't know how I manage to fail so badly at it.

Bro, if I can land dates on this thing, so can anyone. You just gotta try...a lot!

I had a date last night and kind of felt like a dick. I knew almost immediately when I saw her that I wasn't interested but I didn't want to just up and leave. So we chitchatted for a good half hour before I was just like "Well...I guess I should get going" and bounced.

She was big. Her angle shots were pro.

Welp date ended but not on a high note. Got good vibes from her but I think I was too aggressive. She did reciprocate on a few touches but not much. Tried to make out with her but got denied and hugged her awkwardly instead. Think I'm gonna suggest we be friends since I'm totally cool with that so as not to waste my time. Either that, or I think she wants to take it slow. I dunno.

I usually call as I'm rolling up to the meeting location. If they don't answer and are late, I bail ASAP

I had one of these a few weeks ago. The meeting was at a bar, where shortly before my fat, bad attitude-having date showed up, this hot girl was staring me down. So fucking embarassing.

Makes me want to give up on online dating entirely, if I can attract hot bar chicks.

Texted the girl earlier. I think the girl said said something along the lines of she doesn't see it going in the where she thinks it's going but doesn't see it going in that direction (context was I spoke to her about her Ms.Pacman score being unbeatable). I asked her what she meant but she hasn't replied. If it ends up being the case that she says we should be friends, then so be it; it wastes less time from both parties. Lesson learned: make a move earlier in the date rather than later.

After speaking to my brother, he dropped a few truth bombs on me. The first one is to hit up a billion girls a day without putting much thought into the message since it's a numbers game in the end of the day; several messages will lead to a conversation; a tiny handful of those conversations will lead to a date; rinse and repeat. The second one is to stop caring so much and get into a state of mind where I stop caring about things and do whatever I want to do. Lastly, the third one is to be spontaneous with the kissing; on both dates I've been on, I've been way too predictable that I waited until the end of it to try to go for it. As a result, I lost my window of opportunity.

With those pearls of wisdom, he watched me hit up a few girls before he went to sleep. After that I hit up at least 3-4 dozen more. In several hours I'll wake up to find a handful of messages waiting for me and will the repeat the process all over again for at least half an hour to an hour a day. I got the fire back on.

No minimum hours! Have around 30 hours so far in the last 3 weeks. I have some free time on my hands but they also make it easy to come back. Wonderful environment (the harlem one)

This is more of an encouragement post than anything else, especially for those late bloomers. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re a decent person to your family, friends and colleagues. You have dreams, you have hopes and ambitions.

Don’t put up with anyones nonsense. Don’t be anyones emotional punching bag. Have respect for yourself and never be afraid to leave toxic people out of your life. You always need to come first, your well being is the only thing that matters. Leave anyone that gives you consistent trouble in your life. Life is too damm short and you’re not here to fix people or change them. If you adopt to this attitude, you’ll be much happier and be surrounded by decent, positive people. Will you be showered with the sex that your’e attracted to? No, but you will consistently date and have meaningful relationships that are worth a damm. A lot of people are dysfunctional, but that doesn’t mean you need to put up with them and don’t allow anyone to change your mind on that. If you're writing an entire page about a fight in your relationship on neogaf, chances are, its not going to work. Never be afraid of being alone.

I recently lost my viriginty last month to a wonderful girl of 6 months at the age of 24. She messaged me on POF and talked for a month(didn’t meet) but I had to go back to my home country for a bit so I told her i needed time alone. She messaged me 2 months later and we've been together since. I haven't kissed a girl since high school and I’ve spent so much time over the years troubling myself over negative and toxic people, especially after they left me. Whenever I did meet a girl, it was always short lived. And it certainly didn't help that I was still hanged up on some long distance girl from my childhood. On top of that, being a virgin at the time still bothered me some what.

Wether this last another 3 months, 3 years or 30, she is worth all those female related troubles I've had. I couldn't ask for a better "first" adult relationship. And if it doesn’t last, anyone who I meet has to meet up with the standard she has set for me. She's caring, compassionate, playful, considerate, independent!, career driven and thoughtful. I love how we're not too involved in each other's lives and that we're very career driven. Because of that, we give each other plenty of breathing room. I recently took her to Orlando for the weekend, just because. And now she actually bought tickets for us to go on a week cruise overseas. I went from a girl who couldn't even buy a bus ticket to come see me, to a girl who is buying me a cruise ticket.

Just don’t let anyone tell you decent people don’t exist out there. I even had good friends tell me to my face(I was hush about my relationship for a while) that you can’t have good relationships like that. You set the standards you want for yourself, nobody else does. Just because your friends may have a draining relationships, that doesn’t mean you need to. Always hope that you’ll meet someone decent. Keep living your life, keep doing your hobbies, keep discovering new hobbies and that person will come on their own time.

Now give me a congrats on the sex gif.
Maybe a gif of Charles S. Dutton clapping at the screen with a coat
Definitely that one gif with that hairy bearded man nodding at the screen.

Just got back from date 1 of 4 for this weekend.

She's a super cute girl from North Carolina. 👍

VVery God conversation all around. Walked her to her car and kissed her good night. Got a verbal confirmation for a 2nd date. We'll see what comes out of it.

If I already have a date set for next week, should I continue to chat with the girl or just wait until the date?

Its a judgement call. Depends on the woman/situation to be honest.

I have to agree with this.

Usually I'll send a "feeler" text like a funny picture of my cat or something, and if she responds, then we'll take the conversation from there.

If she doesn't or has a lukewarm response, I'll keep it purely logistical.

So, as I said earlier, I went on a date with a girl last Monday, who I thought really liked me back. She was already making plans with me for Friday (today) and everything. Next thing I know, she's sending me a pic of her friend and asking me what I think of her. I'm confused what she's implying, and she tells me that while I am an amazing guy, and had an awesome time with me, she felt I was too nice for her, and matched up better with her friend. Her friend wasn't that attractive to me. I declined politely, and haven't heard from her since. :\

Out of interest, what sites do the Aussies here on GAF use? Okcupid doesn't seem as popular here

Aussie, used OkCupid.

Funnily enough, it once tried to match me up with someone I knew from university. It was pretty interesting to compare his profile to what I knew of him in real life - he came across as much more outgoing and confident online.

Puts usher in the background Let it burn * that's messed up tho on her part like wtf seriously I don't understand the "you're too nice " crap shit i tell you certain girls like to be treated like crap and then say chivalry is dead , either say you're not interested and bam! Some Females actually think they're being smooth and not being mean lol

I always used the much hated (here) Plenty of Fish. Im in Sydney and like you found that OKCupid wasn't nearly as popular. There both free dating sites so I fail to see how the "class" of people could be so much different. If you are willing to pay though, I would use Adult Match Maker. I have had way more success on there than POF but its definitely more geared towards hook-ups/fwbs/swingers etc

Yeah this goes for everyone I think. Every girl I have met online has been completely different to the person I imagined in my head from their profile. This is why its so important with online dating to have zero expectations and have it as a side to socialising.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
the people i'm matched with on okcupid is like walking into a circus. i can't believe half of the things people wear with their make-up etc

Welp, summary of first day on OKCupid.

6 people -total- live anywhere near where I live. 4 of them.... Nah. I'd have to go 20 some miles to Indy for anyone else. The only message I've received after starting up an account at 9 or so this morning is from a gay guy (wtf how am I showing up to that? Preeeetty sure I said straight... yup, sure did).

Hopefully this is not an omen.

Damnnn! Just been stood up for the first time ever!

We spoke on the phone the last 3 days. Made a time confirmation at 5 to meetup at 9 (last text being mine).

Texted her I was going to be late. No response.

Arrived at the designated location and texted her. No response.

Called her. No response. Tried 3 more times (10 min apart). Nothing!

So I bailed and here I am. She's a PhD student so her bed time is usually really early, but I don't want to make excuses for her. Will update the thread if I hear anything.

I have 2 more dates on Sunday and 3 more next week so I'm not hung up on her, but she seemed cool from our phone conversation. (also dat Australian accent).

Freshair: I know that feeling bro. There's been a few chicks where we are texting and chatting like we were made to be, only for them to go cold and not respond at all when the date time arives. I felt like calling them out sometimes and say stuff like "at least have the decency to say you're going to chicken out and not show" or something. Usually, I'll text before meeting up just to make sure they didn't bail as I think a lot of females likes the attention they get online but don't have the "balls" to meet in person. I just move on.

Going all in on Plenty of Fish.
I actually was scared away from it due to a girl I had a crush on here in grad school telling me how her and her girlfriend enjoyed making fun of the guys who would use it (the irony being that sometime later, I catch her earnestly using Zoosk to find a date). Have a few of my stand by photos but will basically take some more.

Some advice from one of the other dating threads is that if you have family, a friend or a friend of a friend with a DSLR camera, get them to help you take a high-quality head and/or full body shot of yourself.

On the same note, here's a nice blog post about looking aesthetically pleasing for the camera from Dr. Nerd Love: http://www.doctornerdlove.com/2014/06/leveling-up-how-to-look-good-in-photos/

Sheeeeit. This is too real for most people to handle. But you know, this is 100% true. Harsh, but VERY true indeed.

If someone really cares or likes you that much, no matter how busy they are, or claim to be, they will make the time for you.

Oh, this is relevant here. Posted last night when I was tired as hell.

myself in the regular dating thread said:
Gonna bullet point this one since I'm too lazy...

- Start talking to two girls on POF
- Get numbers from both of them. Girl 1 seems more responsive and interested than Girl 2
- For no reason Girl 1 disppears from the face of the Earth (typical), so I start to pursue Girl 2
- Girl 2 much more interested and engaged all of a sudden
- We're hitting it off like crazy, shit is great at this stage so far. She asks me when our date is. I'm like daaaaaaaaaaaang girl. We made plans for tonight
- Today (Friday) comes and Girl 1 all of a sudden texts me out of nowhere. She feels bad and says shit came up and would like to keep in touch. I say it's all good/ no worries/ I understand/ don't beat yourself over it/ ect
- Girl 2 is excited as hell and can't wait to see me.
- Get home from work, decided to clean my apartment for the fuck of it. You never know....
- Go pick up Girl 2 from her house.
- She comes out looking fine as fuck. Great face, huge ass, big tits, ect. God damn, I said
- Went to upscale French place where I made reservations
- She had hinted all week she wanted me to kiss her at the beginning of our date. I did, twice. That put her in AWWWW SHEEEIIIT (that's a good) mode for the rest of the night)
- I help her order stuff she has never been to a nice place in her life and guys, allegedly, never wined in dined her.
- We have a fucking blast, dinner, atmosphere and service were superb.
- Go back to my car, as her what she wants to do. She tells me we can do whatever I want.
- Pimp mode activates and I ask she is down to go to my place. She says yes. Pimp levels rising...
- Get to my place...thank fucking hell I cleaned it...and I show here around. You know, games, art books, all that stuff.
- I turn on my PS4, load up Netflix and start browsing at movies, though it didn't seem like she cared all about that.
- I turn my attention to her. Start kissing....taking off her clothes...titties exposed...hands start exploring...she then says she wants to fuck....
- Go to bedroom and proceed with said fucking
- Oh...neither of us have ever fucked on the first date before...awkward at first but then got good
- She was a total freak. Her shyness and innocents from before was all bullshit. I knew she was like that the whole time. I called her out on it earlier this week. Lets just say she knew what she was doing
- After we're done, we lay there, butt ass naked in bed...she looking fine as fuck...just talking about our date and general stuff.
- She talks about how well I treat her and she has never met a dude like me.
- Teh Feelz
- We talk/ makeout/ fool around until she says she has to get home
- We get dressed and then proceed to take her home and...well...that's about it

Again, sorry for this horrible ass format. I'm tired, lazy and just feel fucking great right now. I'm sorry to brag and gloat, but this is a huge win for me. Sure, her coming over was awesome, but this girl seriously is something else. Really chill, down to Earth and a total sweetheart. I'm seeing her again really soon. We already hit it off like crazy and she constantly talked about how much she liked me. Now it skyrocketed. She thanked me a million times for tonight. This girl is very humble and has a good head on her shoulders. I can't wait to see her again.

Anyway, I hope you guys have good fortune. Don't give up. Don't get down. Don't beat yourself up. This shit is a damn numbers game. Yours will come up soon enough. Mine sure as hell did tonight.

So, dating this girl for 4 months now. In the beginning of the dating, she flat out asked me if we should see each other exclusively, and I said sure. Couple of days, she tells me that her ex texted her and wanted to come over to talk...said she had "unresolved feels..." Now, she's putting "non-exclusivity" on the table, along with "stay friends" and "cuss me out." Texting/talking has been sparse since she put this on me, though she keeps saying that she likes me.

The night her ex was supposed to come over, I didn't hear from her all night except for some random text saying that she had a migraine and took a nap.

What do, DatingGAF? Pls respond.

You got balls if someone out of the blue invites me to their house right away I'm thinking about being in a body bag somewhere Godspeed!

The one time I made this happen, the girl ended up looking twice the weight of her pictures (straight obese).

When she let me in, I took my shoes off. I'll never know why. I follow her around to the bedroom, take a good look at her. Huge ass, no makeup on, and she's sick. Coughing and whatnot. Needless to say, I had been invited over to do the deed.

I silently turned around, grabbed my shoes, closed her apartment door behind me and ran laughing like a banshee to my car. Never again.
