This roster is missing Klonoa...except that he was recently featured on the wii. He would have been a great inclusion though. Or at least a cute one.

Let's not pretend like they're not going to show some big names at E3.

I expect Sony to go 3rd party crazy. Big reason why too. They are gonna monetize the shit out of this game with the DLC. 3rd parties will be happy to jump in on character packs

Even if you're a big Sony fan you have to admit the roster is pretty underwhelming so far. Sweet Tooth vs Fat Princess? Who cares? I like Parappa but he hasn't had a game in ten years.

Smash Bros has smaller characters like Olimar and the Ice Climbers, but the poster boys are always heavy hitters like Mario, Link, Kirby, etc. Widely beloved characters with rich history.
For the debut of this game Sony decided to show off... some guy from Killzone?

As if Drake, Jack, Ratchet, Snake, Cole, etc. etc. won't make appearances here? Plus already confirmed 3rd party characters?

Arguing the roster vs. Nintendo's in this fashion is really petty.

i think they wanted to mix some well known ones with some lesser known ones for the reveal to save the "big surprises" for e3

imagine seeing the trailer in e3 with kickass character reveals such as Sir Daniel Fortesque, Nathan Drake, Spyro, Cole, Crash and... Dart. Hehe.

TL:DR. They wanted to reveal a mix of known and unknowns so that they can reveal the shockers for e3.

ps, I better see some RE characters in here.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
What about when Gameloft copied Halo and Uncharted? I'm not particularly interested in this game (or, for that matter, in Smash Brothers), so I think the only genuinely interesting discussion in here would be where we draw the line.
To paraphrase Warhol, if you steal, make it the same or better quality. Gameloft games you mentioned are several orders of magnitude worse than what they're copying, and that's what makes them so laughable. This, on the other hand looks very solid, and has twists of its own that make sense given the source material (LBP stage building itself for example). I suspect this is probably going to end up being more like Forza vs. GT, than Nova vs. Halo.

This will be pretty good unless like someone said they DLC they shit out of it. I will await impressions I guess to see if thats the case. My Ps3 is hungry and all I have been feeding it is Arcana Heart 3 and animu.

I don't see how it's petty. I'm sure there are more characters, I'm just saying as of now the roster looks pretty bad. They're all B-listers except for Kratos and Sly. This isn't how you give your crossover fighting game a good first impression.

-_- Could they clone Smash bros any more? talk about a out right clone try and do your own thing geez

I think taking the safe route for this was the best decision. As someone who has played Smash Bros, this is very appealing.

The game seriously blew my expectations away. I was expecting crap, but I got something with great promise and potential.

Ditto. Shame people are instantly thinking rip-off or copy of Smash right away and letting that get to them. There could be something here, but I guess they just only want to play Smash Bros and nothing else....

The reactions to this game is as funny as I'd hope. Can't wait for the SB vs PAS threads. Going by these early reactions, it'll make GT vs Forza look like child's play.

A bit torn on what to think of this. On one hand it looks like a mod of Super Smash Bros. with Playstation characters.

On the other hand, it will probably play like a mod of Super Smash Bros. with Playstation characters. I don't see it catching on nearly as well as Smash did though, but it'll still probably have a better playerbase than stuff like that TMNT smash-bros game had simply due to (probably) having a good online mode.

holy shit at people seriously thinking Nintendo has grounds to sue over this

Parappa looks weird, but the game looks like it's fun.

But it also looks like something I've already played. I mean, like the mass of sports games, first person shooters, and so forth it looks very similar to Smash. At first I thought they actually were showing Brawl footage.

But still, it looks fun and if I ever buy a PS3 (or 4 at this point) I'll probably snag this along with it.

Haven't had a chance to check out the trailer yet, but from the screens and EG preview I'm more than happy with what I'm seeing so far. :)

It looks like Smash Bros in HD with different characters, some of the special moves look better. I am not into these type games but it should sell fairly well. Kratos looks very good would like to see Cole from Infamous 2 and Drake, if they can't get Crash Bandicoot that would suck.

Goddamn that's an amazingly close resemblance. The video feed was initially so poor that, if it weren't for the energy bars instead of percentage numbers that SSB uses, I would've kept thinking that it was SSB I was looking at for much longer than I did.

As a Nintendo fan, this literally makes me sick. SSB is a staple of Nintendo, and it's not right for another company to basically copy and paste the game and call it their own. Hopefully Nintendo will sue or something, because this is so wrong.

Jesus. Dude, if you are getting physically sick, go to a specialist.

I'm not sure you're following me here: this is a broader discussion not specifically tied to this game. The point I'm making is this: many people are often offended by "blatant copies," as you put it. Like Gameloft games. People are modestly upset when games are somewhat unique but still borrow very heavily from others, like Dante's Inferno clearly did from God of War -- it wasn't quite as blatant as Gameloft titles are, but the influence was still very explicit and obvious. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have games like Killzone which, again, clearly sprung in to existence because of Halo, and shared a general "sci fi FPS" vibe with Halo, but was more than enough its own game that no one reasonably complained about the similarities.

In other words, there are degrees of mimicry. If you're asking why anyone would ever be put off by mimicry, the answer would be, "because sometimes it's very blatant and extreme." Whether this game happens to fit that description is another matter -- I don't think we know yet -- and isn't really my central point.

I never realized how bad gameloft was. I wouldn't "hate" them per say bit it does make one cringe the amount of similarities. From the name, to the scenario and even to some of the designs, it seems as if their sole purpose was to be a clone.

The killzone and Halo comparison is total nonsense though. The only thing these games share in common is that the events take place in space. The enemies, design, gameplay, story and level of violence is very different between the two. It makes more sense to compare Killzone with Call of Duty than it does with Halo. It seems like a lose interpretation of the events that sparked WWII. There are no similarities with Halo that I have noticed.

Even if you're a big Sony fan you have to admit the roster is pretty underwhelming so far. Sweet Tooth vs Fat Princess? Who cares? I like Parappa but he hasn't had a game in ten years.

I'm not surprised by the backlash, I'm a Nintendo hater if anything, and I thought it was pretty embarrassing. Not that carbon copies are unusual from publisher to publisher, Sony did Crash Team Racing for PS1, it's too late to be shocked this can happen.

Crash Team Racing is still the best Kart racer of all time- although this will probably be as good as Smash Bros at best (better for those who prefer the characters).
