I rarely feel this way, but it seems way more compelling than the first film.

Can someone explain the timeline here? If this movie takes place in 2049 that means that the original one still takes place two years from now? Did Trump mess things up that badly?

That's a good theory, roughly two years after the events of the original film Do they ever say what her incept date is? They mention it, but I don't think Tyrell or Deckard ever say it.

What is it with companies putting a trailer for the trailer right in front of the damn trailer? Or is it just a WB thing?

It's for when Youtube puts the trailer in front of videos as an ad, so even if the ad is skipped, you'll still see a condensed trailer before you can clip the "Skip Ad" button.

the first movie took place in 2019. We're suppose to have offworld colonies, flying cars and replicants in two years :(

Don't even remind me about 2001 or 2010 :\

Something I've noticed is that it gives just enough time for mouse cursor (if full screen) and video interface to disappear before real trailer.

They're so altruistic, these marketing people!

The trailers double up as YouTube adverts, so they frontload the first 5 seconds because they are mandatory before a person can skip the ad.

It's clearly an alternate universe from ours at this point. An alternate universe where Atari is still a big name.

Just re-watched the trailer again, and is Deckard hiding in Las Vegas, and not somewhere in Korea (as previous trailer would have you think)?

That is clearly a future Vegas Blvd with the MGM Grand casino in the foreground on the right and a version of the Effiel Tower experience in the background.

Assuming most of the hemisphere isn't covered orange desert dust that is (minus the flooded US west coast).

The main reason is Facebook. So you get the gist of the trailer even as you're scrolling past it autoplaying.

Same reason so many videos have text captions on top now, because FB autoplays on mute.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ to Feature Music by Hans Zimmer

Denis Villeneuve (translated):

Johann Johannsson of Iceland (with whom Denis Villeneuve worked on Prisoners, Sicario and First Contact, Editor's note) composes the main theme as planned. However, given the scale of the task, Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer joined the team to help Johann. It's hard to get to Vangelis' ankle We have Johann's breathtaking atmospheric sounds, but I needed other things, and Hans helped us.

It looked damn amazing on film. Something about these trailers looks a little too clinical otherwise. There's not going to be a 70mm release (per Roger Deakins), but one can hope.

I just had a random theory about Deckard in 2049 (certainly already proposed by others).

Maybe old man Deckard is a clone or replicant of 2019 Deckard, perhaps created by Neander Wallace (Leto) to usher Officer K (Gosling) along whatever journey of self-discovery he's laid out for him.

That way, Ridley can still insist that 2019 Deckard was a replicant who expired, and thus Tyrell Corp or Wallace's company would have later preserved his memories. Others could infer that 2019 Deckard was a human who was killed or died by other means ("We were being hunted!"), but again his memories and DNA were stored to later create an old man Deckard.

Deakins is actually pissed about the film trailer and is possibly pissed at not being asked to supervise it.

I have been timing all the trailers but I didn't know there was anything being shown on celluloid. I see little reason to release anything on film anymore. I guess I have gone to the 'dark side' as I now find even the flicker of film projection distracting.

He hasn't actually seen it though.

I am still mad about the film trailer for Blade Runner 2049 as I wasn't informed that it was being made. I hear that it was a little soft. No one seems to be able to do digital to film anymore. The film version of 'Skyfall' looked pretty great to me but I have not seen an equivalent since Deluxe lab 'retired'.

Sounds like Villeneuve wasn't totally happy either

"Two days ago, Joe Walker, my editor, saw the trailer and was watching like (in shock). And I was like “It’s ok Joe, it’s ok, it’s ok.” Because there are things you work hard to try to keep secret, or create tension, or two characters try in a room to create surprise in the movie. Then you look and the marketing department just shows it all. For me, I don’t like it. I wish one day I will have control. I understand the importance of marketing. I understand competition. I understand the needs. But I wish we would be able to sell movies without showing too much of it. In a perfect world…

Interviewer: The line, “We were being hunted…”

Denis Villeneuve: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wish it was possible, but what can I say.

I don't usually care about spoilers, but I may have to make an exception for this. Seems like the marketing department is wildin' out.

There's nothing wrong with going digital to film. Or film to digital to film, as is the case for all the effects shots in Dunkirk, or every 70MM print of Wonder Woman, etc.

Hard to say for the trailer. Seems to be a rework of the Vangelis theme with some Disasterpeace chords mixed in.

Yeah? I think there is everything wrong about projecting a digital movie on film. You gain nothing other than negatives.

Yeah?

Tell me that when the print you've seen in 70mm has been through hundreds of screenings before yours.

Digital don't fade.
