Media Create Sales: Week 12, 2017 (Mar 20 - Mar 26)

What do console zelda numbers look like in the past, anyway? I know it's not *huge* in Japan (and I guess as a corollary, does it do better on portable, and does that mean Switch is 'portable enough' for the Japanese audience?)

I don't have the exact numbers and cant recall them off the top of my head, but they weren't huge. With BoTW selling this good out of the gate, plus I think its going to be one of those games that most people will buy when they get the system for a while, I see it having really good legs for a few months. It will probably stay the number 1 game for the system until Splatoon2 releases, then it will probably start to taper off.

You can definitely tell Switch stock was replenished. No new releases, and yet a large spike not only in hardware but in software. Nintendo's got to be very pleased so far. This is definitely not Wii U.
Yeah, I've got topics to go through in a couple of years of people saying the Switch will be a Wii U again.

The next few weeks will be interesting for Switch, with no new releases until Mario Kart next month and no Splatoon testfire to back it up.

Well it's successor to 3DS too (no matter what Nintendo says) so I don't know why people keep comparing it to WiiU all the time. Even if there is some separate handheld hardware coming it will also be based on Switch hardware but just smaller and no dock.

To further what I was saying about setsuna, just going by people who are selling multiple copies on ebay:

At least 200 copies have already been sold just there. Adding to that all the individual listings, amiami, playasia and so forth, importers probably put a big dent into the stock, as I can't imagine it had a particularly large shipment.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple more. We had, what, three in the end for the first game?

The original game, Link to the Past and OOT all did over 1mil. Phantom Hourglass also did close to 1mil too. They're pretty impressive numbers.

400k LTD for Switch version seems perfectly doable, same for 100k on Wii U. So that'd give a minimum of 500k LTD combined. Not bad.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
New art styles and slopes

Those could be just additions to the current game - i dont think a numbered sequel makes sense for a product like MM. Just have the game on Switch while adding new stuff - the most recent version will always be on Nintendo current console.

But we will see...i guess a new Maker title could happen next year.

Not alone in your madness then at least

There are dozens of us!

amiami is already out of stock, and so is play-asia:

http://www.play-asia.com/ikenie-to-yuki-no-setsuna/13/70av9h

What does MM2 even mean ? They cant reinvent the wheel the base game is already very solid - just need to keep updating it over the course of the generation.

There's waaaaaaaaaaay more then enough not in MM1 to justify an MM2:

-fixed mario world checkpoint
-poisoned mushroom
-p wing
-on/off switch
-Tweester
-water on land
-One way pipe
-Pipe that lets you out in the same area (as seen in the smb3 wraparound pipeworld level in ludvig von koopa's world 7)
-wings being usable on yoshi
-multi coloured yoshi/koopas /w ability changes for ingested koopas
-Magic ball, so you can finish levels when YOU want them to be finished
-bosses (big boo, reznor, boom boom, kooplings)
-Slopes
-Vertical stages /w optional wrap-around
-Missing SMB3 powerups
-Use one games powerups in another game (ie yoshi/cape in SMB, raccon/hammer suit in SMW etc)
-Desert Theme
-Sky Theme
-Snow Theme
-Night Theme
-Tank Theme
-Battleship theme
-grab block
-3up
-dragon/star coin
-power balloon
-water levels that go up and down
-crushing columns
-controllable coin line block
-wind
-triangle block
-CHARGIN CHUCK
-angry sun
-all hammer bros (amazin/fire/boomerang/sumo etc)
-blargg
-thwimp
-eerie
-ninji
-boo block
-"floating" Boo Buddys (where they are not scared of you, but also move randomly, seen in SMW ghost houses)
-pokey
-nipper/fire nipper
-block goomba
-mechakoopa
-fishin lakitu/boo
-red pirahna plants that ignore whether you are near a pipe (SMB2/LL)
-jumping pirahana plants (though I guess wings kind of emulate this)
-ptooie
-rotating cannon
-fire snake
-flame chomp
-rotodisc

etc etc

Mario Maker 3DS VS WiiU (goal accomplished)

Still makes me laugh that people think this system will flop like the Wii U. I honestly never had a doubt. The moment they showed the product, it looked like a winner.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Naah, once MK8 Deluxe comes out, its reign will soon approach its ending.

Its got 4 weeks til mario kart launches and will likely sell to around half of new switch purchasers until then, i could see 400k by then

This. If anything it's the perfect type of game to make into a platform and just keep adding things over time. The only thing it doesn't have off the top of my head is slopes, Mario 2 stuff/mechanics, and a few title unique gimmicks like rolling hills, wind, and flippable grates.

I guess "not huge" probably wasn't the best wording lol.

I expect BoTW to do over 1mil at this point honestly by the end of the year (combined Wii U + Switch of course). I would think its already over 400K when digital is factored in.

I honestly doubt it'll have enough legs to manage that. Once MK8DX comes out the attach rate will start dropping more steadily.

We probably will get Mario Maker 2 just so they can start fresh on concepts and integration. Website for example should/will probably be overhauled into the games infrastructure. They may also just wanna avoid porting all the old levels into a largely expanded new game, etc. They also need to change the rating system and upload progression.

The game is really good though

Still too early to say.
Demand is still outstripping offer though (same should be the case in USA) which is a positive sign.

For the anemic software it has it does better than what I expected, it sells almost entirelly on hype right now in Japan.

If you go a few threads back you'll see many experts seeing price collapse and even then less that 2m YTD.

On the topic of a Mario Maker sequel, there need not ever be a need for one. The game should go full service as a game route and build on that going forward. A new platform will only expose the game to newer customers.

That's probably a bit ambitious, its got 4 more weeks of being the switch game to get before mario kart comes along and eats its lunch, could see 750k combined by the end of the year though
