No.godhandiscen said:Is the iPhone API hard to develop for?
Small budget.What is going on?
It has reflection maps, look at the green car. It reflects the env cubemap.dark10x said:Looks worse than the PSP games (doesn't even have reflection maps on the cars) and is unlikely to run at 60 fps.
Not graphics-wise - you can use GLSL, but it's a restricted subset of commands and stuff.Lord Error said:PSP doesn't have worse hardware, compared to regular, non-3GS iphones at least. But yeah, Iphones also seem to have quite a bit OS overhead and some restrictions in how to access hardware.
robut said:Meh face. RR is way too digital controlled to work well for an iphone game.
Only if you target exclusively 3GS.godhandiscen said:Supposedly the raw power of the iPhone was beyond that of the PSP

The game may be fun. And while it doesn't look cutting edge, it certainly looks playable. Make it control Mario Kart Wii Style and I'd be on it. Just want to find out if the accelerometer controls are actually any good or not.
Heh, you're right, I didn't even notice that. The rest of the car looks so flat that it seemed to be missing. I suppose it doesn't really look that much worse than the PSP game, really. What I'm waiting to see is the framerate.wmat said:It has reflection maps, look at the green car. It reflects the env cubemap.

Fastlane Street Racing (released sometime in january)
Real Racing (released over the summer)
Asphalt 5 (released a month or two ago)

That's basically what Ridge Racers 1 and 2 for PSP were. It's not just about the tracks, rather, the handling.Benedict said:Would love to see a "Best of" Ridge Racer released for PSN (and XBLA) with online multiplayer support..
With tracks from Ridge Racer, Revolution, Rave Racer and such.
How awesome would that be?
This. Would it really have hurt to put 'Iphone' in the title?, I could have completely ignored thisTakao said:I came in expecting a new PSP game.
I left disapointed.
Honestly it doesn't really look much different from the other Iphone racers people linked to - it's just Namco's art style that's not garish enough after NFS turned the genre upside down 5 years ago.dark10x said:I suppose it doesn't really look that much worse than the PSP game, really. Because they are recorded shit and youtube doesn't go above 30fps? Real Racing is near 60fps in most areas, so is Fastlane... *edit* on a 2g touch which does not have the new VR chipset.Fafalada said:Only if you target exclusively 3GS.
Anyway visuals aside - why does every iPhone racing game on youtube run at 15-20fps?
Exactly, I hate traps like this.SmokyDave said:This. Would it really have hurt to put 'Iphone' in the title?, I could have completely ignored this
It all comes down to how much a dev spends on a game and how long they take to make it, the early iphones and touches still suprise people with games which run rather well on them, not many games yet actually use the bonuses that the VR chipset gives in the 3GS and touch 3g.Philanthropist said:Yuck, looking terrible. And that's considering Carmack said iPhone graphics would totally beat PSP's.

CamHostage said:Not quite, I didn't think the screenshots were as bad as people were saying here but now that I'm seeing the videos with a weak framerate and some slowdown (though maybe that's a slo-mo effect in the replay?) I am questioning why they bothered. It's a good franchise to try and bring to iPhone, but with this level of horsepower I do think they could have done better.
