GirlGAF |OT 3| Light the signal! We've got guyposts, guyposts everywhere!

oELDu.png

Welcome to GirlGAF OT 3. This thread has been revamped before OT2 reached post limit in order to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Anyone is welcome to post here and there are no off limit topics but please do not bombard GirlGAF with questions or general douchy behavior. In fact, if you have questions for women on GAF, you can check out the new GAQ (Girls Answer Questions) thread.

This OT owes much to Devolution's OT 2, though I have made some updates.

If you're curious about the subtitle: it's a twofold reference: first, stop moving your guy posts in here! (see below), but also, we renamed "goalposts" in conversations "guyposts." You're welcome.

Read these rule guidelines before posting!

This kind of question should be asked in GAQ or of people you know or on reddit or something - it doesn't belong in the GirlGaf OT:

hey i have a question females:

if you found out a dude was a massage therapist would that be weird? like would you assume his intentions are one way or the other?

First, women are not a monolith; there's no one true woman answer that will address this in every situation. Second, it's devoid of context. Mostly, it's just here to take our space and time. Ask it in GAQ. Let us have our community thread. We're here to discuss random things in our community, not to serve as armchair therapists, relationship guides, or life coaches.

Now, this old post by ronito was considered a pretty good fit for real conversation in GirlGAF (and it's a good conversation starter) but even now, in the post-GAQ era, think about where posts should go! We're not trying to be exclusive. We're just putting some mild boundaries around our community thread.

And this mild bit of innuendo, while also relatively innocuous-seeming, could be construed as the douchy behavior we'd like to avoid:

If the cosplay looks anything like the lingerie being posted on this page i'm sure that will be real hard :p.

Edit: I might recommend that to my GF.

Guys, popping in to let us know how sexy you think a piece of discussed lingerie is is not only unnecessary, it can also cross the line from contributory posting (which, in a community thread, is loosely defined to begin with) into "generally douchy" behavior by drawing attention to the fact that there are male posters who hang around here with no particular perspective on feminine issues besides hot-or-not. If we're talking about lingerie, it's for us, not your potential boner.

Beyond that, for those who aren't toeing any particular line but are not a girl/woman/lady/female/fembot/femputer, I ask only that you try to avoid bombarding the thread with too much fluff chatter with no reference to the perspective of women beyond the occasional "my girlfriend thinks..." because again, while likely subconscious and unintentional, this behaviour is conspicuous and we do notice it. Posts consisting of nothing more than "hey girlz!" are a particularly egregious drive-by manifestation of this phenomenon.

In other words, we're not trying to tell you not to post here. We're just asking that you think about it before you do, just as you would with other community OT.

Thanks for reading! We appreciate your efforts to respect our OT.

Now onto topics, links and such. Brace yourself for a long and link heavy OP. (NOTE: again, much of this is from Devolution, but I did add some things and I removed all the dead links, I think. RIP old links.)

If you wish to add something interesting to the OP don't hesitate to suggest it! On with the discussion.

Let me anoint the first page with an amazingly stereotypically girly question:

Is anyone else here well-versed in the world of (to use reddit's extremely vague term) "Asian beauty"? Someone suggested a Japanese blush to me when I was 18 and I've been a convert ever since (It was a lot more pigmented than comparably priced US brands in similar colors and the formula was good.)

Anyway that was years ago and that blush was a long gone LE. Now I have a 6 step skincare routine and have to import 75% of it, but I'm back to needing blush. I was planning to get the canmake cream blush. People love it and it's quite cheap, but gel blushes can be so hit or miss. SO does anyone have any recommendations? (from anywhere)

I am a convert to a lot of the kbeauty stuff but this is actually one thing I haven't converted to - I like tarte's amazonian clay blushes myself but I'd love to hear if anyone else has recs.

eta: also alert alert, free MAC liptsicks Saturday https://www.nylon.com/articles/mac-national-lipstick-day-giveaway

Oh, yeah, I like those a lot! I've had a couple of pinks and lately I've been using Paaarty, but I was looking for a more reddish color than they offer :(

I wonder if we should request to be moved to Off Topic for a few months to gather more of the girls gaffers in hiding?

Though that comes with the double edged sword of more guys dropping in with the "Hey ladies..."

Beef immortalized in the OP.

I don't know if community threads are ever placed on the main OT, but if so, moving it could be a good idea. It's the mods who have to deal with misplaced posting after all.

Might not be a terrible idea! It didn't even occur to me to look for a GirlGAF OT thread until I saw the GAQ one.

How often do y'all shave? One downside to summer is wearing dresses to work because I have to stop being lazy and actually shave every few days. I have dark hair, too, so it's super noticeable if I don't shave for a few days. I hate it.

Oh dang, I didn't check the recipe/food ones for whatever reason. on it!

LET'S ADD MORE

I am at work, but that awesome site that sells everything with pockets is not on the link section =O

I mean, JCPenney jacks the fuck out of prices, but I'm sure you still saved a shitload anyway at that discount rate. <3

How in the hell did you turn over $1000 to $100?

Everything was 95-99% off. I was picking up shit shuddering at the 60 and 80 dollar price tags even though I knew they were heavily discounted, and watched as they rang up for like $ 1.50. It was insane.

I got some skirts I need to find tops that match for though lol. I just went nuts and grabbed everything cute in my size that I could.

Edit: I pmed our den mother about possibly moving the thread to off topic temporarily. Still don't know if it's backfire on us though :/

I'm an old member of that sub, Korean skincare products are amazing! I had my 10 steps routine but I got out of it last year because I was traveling way too much and it became inconvenient to keep it up.

I don't have a blush to recommend from AB because I have been using the same brand for years and love it. It's called "bourjois coup de foudre"

Lmao. Got a new passport. Family and friends can't tell which is from 5 years ago and which is new.

You can choose size for EVERYTHING and neck and sleeves and EVERYTHING HAS POCKETS but it is ok you can remove it if you want (why would you YOU MONSTER)

Oh, of course, I know eshakti! I can't believe I didn't think of it.

Also I got an adorable dress today with pockets and I'm so excited.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be immortalized in a GirlGAF OT. Neat!

I live to serve!

Hey hey!

Thanks Neverforget! I'll check that one out.

Also, 10 steps for skincare is like..All my spoons for the entire day. I try to keep it at 4 or 5 steps unless I'm using a mask or treatment, and I only oil cleanse at night (Unless I've been hanging out at home that day, and didn't have any sunscreen or makeup on)

I know a little about Asian beauty but unfortunately I don't know anything about blush, sorry. I don't use it at all. I imagine Japanese blush will be pretty nice.
It's always nicely pigmented! Igari style makeup isn't as popular as it once was, but since my skin is darker I found it really wearable and it was a game changer for me, haha.

Pockets are so important. My favorite dress with pockets is too large for me now, so I can't really wear it, but I'm always on the lookout of a replacement.

Wow, THE SAVINGS! Too bad I hate JCPenny and shopping at the mall fills me with despair, unless they do some online deals I'll probably miss out on this one.

Re: Korean skincare, the little shop I go to now and then for weird toys has this whole wall of Korean skin care products. I have no idea what's good though :x

Ceallach

Smells like fresh rosebuds
Those savings! Congrats.

Department stores I usually have a hard time piecing an outfit together :(

Re: dresses too large: did you consider having it altered? I finally took the leap with one I loved that was just a little baggy and it was less than replacing it and they adjusted it in other ways, too. I'm a convert.

Has anyone ever sent Tweezerman tweezers in to be sharpened? I heard you can but I dunno how long it takes. I have two sets but one is mini and I am distressed at being without the others for weeks.
