I second this idea. For sure my favorite soundtrack of the last generation. I add and un-add various OSTs from my phone now and then, but the Nier OST stays no matter what. The various arrange OSTs and whatnot are amazing as well. What a game, what a soundtrack.

You know why this series never really made it to the States (the Saturn never really broke through there)? The name ALBERT. I mean c'mon. That's not a cool name.

Episode 255: Albert Odyssey

This series really got the short end of the stick when it comes to exposure. The SNES titles staying in Japan and then the Saturn game never made it to Europe. Is the music up to the challenge? Can we appreciate without any nostalgia attached? Let's give this episode a listen and see for ourselves.

Total side note. If you guys are going to do the drumming podcast I would love to hear about the drumming of Igor Cavalera. Specifically the stuff he does for Sepultura on tracks like Refuse/Resist and Roots Bloody Roots. It's so fascinating with the tribal stuff that is peppered throughout. Also just the first part of the song Territory. I can listen to that short intro part over and over again because of how damn good the drums sound.

second edit: OK while I'm gushing over Igor I may as well say I started listening to some of the Sepultura tunes and that crack of the snare drum at the start of Slave New World is awesome. Just *wham* that lets you know it's time to start grooving.

Take a break from videogame OSTs. Take a look at chiptune music. Big fan of the previous chiptune episode. I recall this track:

as being just out of this world cool and I replayed it like crazy. Just really resonated with me. Something about it reached into my emotional core. I can't believe that episode was from 2014. What? Yooka-Laylee was recently released. One of the reasons this game excited some people was because of its soundtrack. One of the composers was Grant Kirkhope. Many will associate him with Rare classics. In this episode the Bros. will have a chat with Grant as well as look at tracks composed by Grant for Yooka-Laylee. The Black Scrawl will come for us all

Episode 266: NieR

Ah the time has come for one of the best soundtracks of all time. A stone cold classic of the 7th gaming generation. Boy what can I say? Nier is probably one of the few cases where there is a strong pushback against the review consensus (let us never forget the infamous "I don't know how to fish so 0 out 10" Kotaku review). It took a while for people to come around. They did and by some miracle we even got a sequel that came out not too long ago. One thing that was clear right from the get go was that Nier was special in the music department. I'm very excited to listen to this episode.

Episode 281: Hitoshi Sakimoto

In all honesty I'm not sure if this name really gets brought up that much among the gaming community. Not that Hitoshi hasn't composed for some big games. He has, yet this episode had to remind me of that rather than me being able to pop off some of those titles. Either way this is a hell of an episode. I was left in awe with how top notch Hitoshi's musical pieces are. Really it's an episode packed with nothing but excellent tracks.

School Days. Yandere me all day.

Episode 282: Hikoshi Hashimoto

Hooo boy. Now I have this obsession with the Sega Genesis version of the Master of Monsters soundtrack. So when I saw the track listing I thought "my goodness. This man made that music?" But wait. Disciples of Gaia? What's that. Apparently an enhanced port of the original game according to wikipedia. You know, I'm not even sure who the composers were for the Sega Genesis version of the game. Either way I cannot wait to get to that part of the episode to hear what this PS1 version sounds like. If it's simply a remix of an old tune or a brand new tune.
Besides that the tracklisting is mostly unknown to me, so I'm looking forward to learning about music from games I have no exposure to or very little.

Episode 283: Marcato Radio 11

The Bros. are away for this one. Just a collection of various tune. Most of them unfamiliar to me. Just wanted to say that Flinstones track, super Ocean. I thought it might have been a Waterworld track at first cause those Ocean games seem to use the same sound palette. I like that Ocean sound though. Big fan of Perturbator too. The funny thing is that looking at the tracklist I should have probably recognized half of the games.
