Something that would suit someone just starting. I've played a few games and read through the rules but I'd like to see a game in full flow (I'm regularly flicking the rule book during my games!)
(Also space wolves rock!!)

I enjoy Winters SEO for his narrative style (not much dice rolling though) and Tabletop Tactics (they show more rolls)

Both of Staffy's suggestions are great, I'll add Strikingscorpion82 to that list. They do great full-form battle reports (dice rolls etc).

Also Da40korks is a good channel for very short battle reports by a really competent Ork player. Guy knows his stuff, is constantly tweaking his army and seems to have a lot of success with them.

I enjoy miniwargaming channel. They play everything and also have a paid site.

https://www.youtube.com/user/miniwargaming

I also stumbled upon Nocs Box awhile ago and I just enjoy the personalities so much that I ended up subscribing and watch them too. They're doing their own "tale of 4 gamers" for 40k and it has been fun to see them grow, paint, and play their individual armies over the months.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs6...EnfaQ14OWOHe3g

They only have 340 subscribers, lol. I've been following them for months and never noticed that until just now. Man, I must've been one of their first subscribers. I watched them play a Zombicide campaign.

Goddamn right.

The SWA battle report in this month's White Dwarf was played on their new terrain and I estimated about 6k+ in value. In order to have a proper SWA/Necromunda game, you need loads of terrain with lots of height variation and chest high objects to hide behind and run between.

I'm so glad I have all my old Necromunda stuff!

They look really good. Good shading on the ork flesh and pants. Red looks good but could maybe use some more shading or highlighting? Best advice for photos is use a white background (sheet of white paper is fine) + multiple light sources (even a desk lamp + phone flash will improve photos).

I'm slightly baffled by the positive things I've seen about the SWA terrain. There's nowhere near enough of it, and it's just functionally useless for Necromunda. It's too high or just floor objects rather than gantryways. Necromunda is a game built around gantryways.

I mean, we live in different times now and there's plenty of good third party alternatives, but still. I do wonder how many GW stores will do pickup games with six+ boxes of the terrain on a table to make it work.

My biggest issue is the fact that it's not the same height as the rest of their buildings. Besides that, yes there isn't enough of it for a proper game but I still think it looks great.

Thanks! I'll definitely try that when I go to take more pictures of my models.

I agree about what you said about the red. I tried to make the highlights more of a subtle effect on the red but I guess it was a little too subtle. I might go back and give the highlights and shading on the red a once over.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I hear you on that lol.

I listen to it while I work and oddly, after a few games, it becomes semi hypnotic in a way. I feel like I could play a current game of 40k and be pretty adapt. Miniwargaming has kind of taught me through osmosis.

Can i ask you pros about the psychic phase rules? I'm new to the game and will be playing tomorrow. I wanted to use my psyker librarian and i have read the rule book but wanted to see if i understand it correctly.

Heres how i think it works;

1. beginning of the game roll for the powers themselves
2. beginning of each psychic phase roll for the number of warp charges (both players)
3. decide what power you're using and on who and then chose how many warp charges you want to use to try and pull off the power
4. on a 4+ you pull off the power and resolve wounds / apply buff
5. the opponent can then use his warp charges to 'deny the witch' needing a 6 for each successful opponents roll

Is that correct?

1. Powers are drawn before the game starts - it's kind of an important distinction because it can affect how you deploy/counter deploy.

2. Only the player whose turn it is rolls a single dice, both players add the result of that roll to their total mastery level to decide how many warp charges they get that phase.

5. Spot on, but there are a couple of things which can alter deny the witch rolls, notably if there are any psykers in the unit being targeted by an attack. Modifiers to deny the witch seem to be the most forgotten rule I see.

Thanks! We just finished the game and it went pretty smoothly I think. we did point 2 as you describe above and the deny the witch worked well although I had forgotten the modifiers but no psykers were targeted anyway.
I think psyckers add an interesting extra dimension to the game, a bit of variery.

I finished Necropolis this mornings and grabbed Honour Guard so I can start it tomorrow. I really liked how the story started off in this one, with no mention of Gaunt or the Ghosts for something like three long chapters. I also liked how some of the hive's characters joined up with the Ghosts and may be seen again. One thing I didn't care for was how Gol Kolea didn't get to see his kids. I don't feel like that would have kept him from leaving the planet with the Ghosts, I think they could have easily gone with a direction where he sees and recognizes them but sees how happy his son is with Tona and feels like he's been changed too much by the war to be a good father, so he avoids them and leaves.

Well that sounds good. I was happy that he popped up as early as he did in the first chapter that I just read of Honour Guard. I figured that Abnett must have like the character or had an idea for him, since he didn't kill him off, but I also figured that if the goal was to get him to leave the planet and have a gruff and grizzled attitude, that could still have been accomplished even with what I said I wanted to see in the spoilers above. But I'm eager to see how it plays out now. Then again, there aren't any happy endings in the 40k universe, so maybe I shouldn't be so eager.

Damn, though. I meant to trade off with a normal 40K book after every GG novel, to break them up a bit. I've got so many others to read. Necropolis was so good though that I'm forging ahead right into Honour Guard. Vervenhive was fantasticly described and a great setting, and so far I'm not getting the same feelings towards the world the Ghosts are on now (I am still pretty early in the story though), so maybe after this one I can start up a non-GG book again.

New 40K website is up:
https://warhammer40000.com/

New edition FAQ:

Is my army still valid?
Yes, it certainly is! You’ll still be able to use your army in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. All current armies will be supported with new rules.

Can I still use all my models?
Yes. Every Warhammer 40,000 miniature we sell today will be usable in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. What’s more, they’ll be supported with new rules, which will be available from the get go in handy, low-cost books.

Even Forge World models?
Yes, even all of your Warhammer 40,000 Forge World models.

Wait, did you guys blow up the universe?
Nope. This is very much still the Warhammer 40,000 setting you know and love. Now, that’s not to say we won’t see the story advance – there’s some pretty epic stuff ahead! You can certainly expect to see the story arcs that began in the recent Gathering Storm campaign books continue to unfold with plenty of exciting developments to look forward to…

How can I get the rules?
We’re going to make it easier than ever to get your hands on the rules and start playing. The core rules for the game will be free, and you’ll have several options on how you get your hands on the full rulebook. Watch this space for more.

Have you dumbed down 40K?
Not at all. We’ve made it easier for new people to enter and get to grips with the basics. At the same time, we’ve made sure you can add as much depth and complexity as you like – there’s some fantastic new gameplay elements coming. What we’ve done is reexamine every aspect of the game, and made plenty of improvements, many based on the gaming community’s feedback and suggestions. If you play today, this game is recognisably still Warhammer 40,000.

What happens to my codexes?
The rules in our current range of Warhammer 40,000 codexes aren’t compatible with the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. These books will be going off sale very soon. If you do want to pick any up, now’s the time – as all of the great hobby content and background information will be as valid as ever.

What’s in the new starter box?
A new starter box? That’d be exciting! I guess we’d fill it with some awesome new miniatures… (come on, we can’t spoil all the surprises for you!)

Are you getting rid of points?
Not at all. There will be a full points system, for use in matched play – one of three ways to play covered in the rulebook.

What do you mean “3 ways to play”?
We realise that people like to play Warhammer 40,000 in different ways. 3 broad systems are covered in the new edition: 1) Open play is the most flexible, and easiest to get started with, allowing you to use any miniatures you like. 2) Narrative play is where you can refight the iconic battles of the 41st Millennium, or create your own campaigns and sagas. 3) Matched play is designed for more balanced and competitive games, ideal for gaming clubs, leagues and tournaments. However you want to enjoy playing Warhammer 40,000, there will be rules for that.

Why should I not just stick with current Warhammer 40,000?
This is the version of Warhammer 40,000 you’ve been asking for. We’ve listened to your feedback, and we really believe that this is the best Warhammer 40,000 has ever been.

Will the rules be updated annually (ala, the General’s Handbook)?
What a great idea! We’ve had such a fantastic response to our community-led approach with the Warhammer Age of Sigmar rules updates that we’re committed to doing the same for Warhammer 40,000. You’ll be able to submit your questions and queries on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page and we’ll make sure we continue to evolve the game as feedback rolls in.

I haven’t played 40K in a while…
Welcome back! The new Warhammer 40,000 is easier to learn and quicker to play, but still has all the tactical, strategic and narrative depth you could want from a game set in the incredibly rich setting of the 41st Millennium. It’s going to be easier than ever to get started, and more fun than ever to master.

Why should I trust you?
Come on! This is New Games Workshop™

Seriously though, everything we’re talking about now is just an extension of all the community engagement work we’ve been doing over this last year and a half. We’ve learned a lot from you guys and gals, and we’ve tried really hard to make sure everything you’ve asked for is included. And if we’ve missed something? Drop us a line on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page and let us know. We’ll make sure your requests are given proper consideration.

Where can I find out more?
We’ll be running daily articles on the run up to release on warhammer-community.com. Every aspect of the new edition will be covered, from rules, to new miniatures and advancements in the setting.

I love it. I want it. When can I have it!
Really soon. You’ll be playing the new Warhammer 40,000 this year.

We’ll let you know when we have more news on an exact release date. Stay posted.
For the latest news, follow us on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page, or subscribe to our newsletter.

What do I do now?
Now’s the time to start getting your army ready.

With the addition of 3 ways to play, there are now more ways to build your collection than ever before. Open play frees you from all constraints, so now’s the time to just pick a model you’ve always wanted and paint it up. For you narrative players, why not start theming your collection around your favourite battle? Just like many of you, we want our armies to be fighting fit for matched play in the new edition. That’s why you’ll be able to read daily articles on the Warhammer Community site that will tell you all about the new rules, great units to include and tactics for every army.

Those true scaled marines also look like single mold injections since the 2 in the back are the exact same model. I have very mixed feelings about them if they turn out to be a real thing. GW would have to upscale everything space marine related, from vehicles/flyers to terminators/dreads. I just don't see them doing any of that. I especially don't see them invalidating all their current lines of the various marine factions, both chaos and imperial.

I do not feel that true scale marines will be a thing with 8th edition.

Well, Space Marines are incredibly popular, and though having them upscaled/true scaled wouldn't invalidate your old stuff, (you can still play with it), it would allow them to reboot the entire line of what is their most popular faction. It would be a lot of work, but they could focus on the Marines first, which Chaos people would also cannibalize, while leaving the IG along for a while since their size would only accentuate how damn huge the SM's are.

The urge to have the shiniest meat bicycle is strong in the wargaming community.

As a huge AoS fan, I'm dead excited to see what this new edition is like. The fact it's developed closely with the community and has a focus on ease of accessibility really makes me feel positive around it.

Kind of glad the old codexes won't be compatible, it means we're getting the first true shakeup since 2nd -> 3rd edition.

Is it? The Marines in that picture don't look the same to me. They don't have the same style of knee and the bolter doesn't have the rounded part in the middle or the ammo box. There are similarities but they're not completely the same.

Look at the one in his hand. That's definitely the same knee pad with a large curved top. The gorget also looks identical and is unlike any current mk8 models we have. Same with the backpack and the odd little cowlings over the exhausts. There's definitely differences with the bolter, like it's missing the sight and it seems to have a drum instead of a clip, but there's a bit of variety amongst bolters. All the other elements being there is too much of a coincidence for me.

They saw how successful and actually balanced they became in AoS so now you are going to have to spend points and buy the formations if you want to run them. Which makes sense.
