Ready Player One - SDCC Teaser

Yo, Iron Giant is in this?

So, it's mostly a CGI movie? Some of the action looked like Tintin.

"Ernest Cline's Holy Grail of Pop Culture."

fuck

edit: If I'm not mistaken, Tom Sawyer gets mashed up at the very end with Magnum PI's theme.

What the fuck is Iron Giant doing there?! Looks good, and I trust Spielburg to filter out all the supposedly cringey parts of the book.

So many references, I have to wonder how expensive the rights for this are lol. Akiras (sortakinda) bike, Delorian, Iron Giant, Freddy Krueger..

edit: Didn't read the book, so I have no idea what to expect.

Huh, this is a pretty wild looking film for Spielberg. It seems like he enjoyed wearing his hair down for a change, so to speak.

And I never though I'd hear Pure Imagination sound so epic.

Loved the book and can't wait for this! Really liked to see the DeLorean, after all the rumours that Spielberg references wouldn't be in the movie.

I mean, Freddy Krueger and Duke Nukem were in that battle scene, so...

The book is just a circle jerk of pop culture references, so expect a lot of that..

I'm sure that's going to arch quite a few brows.
Why? I never understood why people get shook up about a trailer bigging itself, or its source material, up. Not like they're going to say "based a nerds wet dream" are they.

The VR stuff looks hyper stylized but not photorealistic. Seems like it might feel disjointed from the real world part, but I guess that's the point.

A lot of the "fun" of the movie is gonna come down to what they can license or not (and what they think is appropriate for a mainstream western market). The Iron Giant thing makes sense for an American Audience because it's more recognizable than
Gundam RX-78 & Ultraman, etc... although as a Gundam fan I reaaaaaaally would like to see the RX-78 make it in.

I can see Ultraman being changed to a Power Ranger for the US.

Hopefully they keep Mecha-Godzilla though, that's worldwide enough.

At this point they may as well just get it over with and make a Funko Pop movie.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Didn't really sell me on the movie. Is this going to be like Wreck-It Ralph where I'm supposed to just be won over by how many references they put on screen at once? Oh, Iron Giant! Oh, the Delorean from Back to the Future!

Only thing keeping me interested is Spielberg's involvement.
