There are many betters ones, but Gifs are hard to find.

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. My absolute favorite point and click.

Haunting Ground has some gruesome ones,

but it's the uncomfortable, strange, sounds the stalkers make after they capture you when you get a Game Over that are probably the most brutal because you're left up to your imagination.

EDIT: OLD GAMES. I don't know how I misread that before....

Hellnight, maybe? That's all I can think of for now.

You know, for some reason death sequences where characters are turned into food make me extra squeamish. And i don't mean people being eaten (somehow im not fazed by carnage of monsters eating characters and such), but like, literally proccessed and turned into food.

Dangan Ronpa had Mondo being turned into butter.
Virtual Bart had Bart turned into porkchops and subsequently eaten by homer.
Dog's life ending has the main villain turned into dog food.
The abe games on the Oddworld franchise usually have some one turned into food in their bad endings.
Alfred Chicken's game over screen.
Hell, even Buu's super in the new DBZ game unsettles me a bit (even tho it didn't in the original anime for some reason)

Hmmm, I remember Manhunter: San Francisco being a lot more... gory when I was a kid.

Maybe it was because I was young back then and even this stuff bothered me.

I thought there was a specific death that really stuck out though, like... something with a melting face? I dunno.

In the first 10 minutes of Manhunter, if you go to Bellevue Hospital and stick around the body on the table for too long, the baby Orbs eat your face off:

I think I was 10 when I first played it and it scared the shit out of me. Good times

What was that one anime RPG(?) with the weird, horrifically graphic death scene? I think it involves someone getting eaten. I know it's been posted in a thread like this before

Myth The Fallen Lords and Myth 2 Soulblighter had amazing gore/gibs. Body parts would fly through the air from explosion, hit other units and do tiny bits of damage. Body parts could be picked up by Ghols and thrown, like the Wights puss body parts to stun people and blood flowed downhill.

Thank you! That first death in the video was what I was thinking about. I must've watched it on youtube or something because I didn't play Manhunter: New York. I'm almost positive I played San Francisco.

fake edit: actually, now I'm confused because I clearly remember that knifey handy game

Can't post gifs right now because I am on a tablet, but look up Star Wars Battle Chess for the Sega CD or MSDOS. Theres some pretty hillarious and brutal deaths in that one. Also Lara Croft in the original Tomb Raider had some brutal (but bloodless) deaths.

In terms of overall ambiance, Harvester is my favorite game of all time. So much great graphic-ness. Got a bunch of videos I captured for an LP I did on Something Awful years and years ago (about 11 it looks like). Some of these have the audio a bit out of sync, due to me learning how to capture video and post it on youtube, but enjoy nonetheless.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vswd0fEaEUk - Spare the bat, spoil the child

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzNQFONW4Gg - The wonderful baby scene...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqz7AcyAfe4 - Range Ryder getting his foot stuck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlsF-Yk54NQ - You solved my puzzle, now I must...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf5_UV_3J-U - Getting too close to the carnivorous plant

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbSh5etekNg - The mystery of motherly love

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bduOMImSzjM - "Death by natural causes" (technically not a scene of someone being killed, but it is the best scene in the game).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiyXwQzJSfQ - Finally, the most graphic scene of all...the sex scene. (No nudity though, that would be immoral).

This one screwed me up as a kid... and still does. Phantasmagoria.

Only 1 of 15 or so gruesome deaths in the game.q
Holy shit. These are some of the nastiest things I've ever seen in a video game. Hell, probably beats out 99% of everything I've seen. This is incredible looking, even more amazing knowing how long ago it came out. I always remember hearing about and seeing ads in my gaming magazines about this game, just never had the capabilities to play it. I'm sure it was for the best that I didn't. I was 11.

Damn, never saw this one! Man, finding new ways to die in Sierra games was the best. Space Quest IV had some great ones where they'd actually rewind and do a whole "Instant Replay" gag.

Yeah, the character designs were done by Koji Aihara, who had a knack for this kind of art style in his manga.

I know there were some fan translations a few years back, but it was never completed, so pretty much a full game translation is still missing in action.

Here's some more confusing and funny images of my childhood with this game,

Fear Effect and the sequel had a bunch of pretty good deaths.
Only found one gif though.

Video compilations for FE and FE2.

Gotta say those graphics hold up admirably.
Was just thinking about Fear Effect the other day actual which led me to that youtube death compilation. I could never get very far into that game.

I thin the graphics hold up rather nice and translate very well to the modern era. There was that kickstarter game that had a neat look to it too (well, the cutscenes did anyways).

Man I don't think I've seen most of these games as a kid and I thought I played everything. I can definitely see some scarring for life at a young age. The fighting game stuff is tame though as I grew up on Street fighter, mortal Kombat, and killer instinct

Fear Effect and it's sequel Retro Helix were such good games. To this day no other game comes close to the atmosphere Fear Effect has, and that's saying something. The visuals still hold up today because of the incredible art style.

Only in video form or on a small screen emulator. I tried to play FE 2 a few months back, on my hdtv it's a blocky, unwatchable mess. I could hardly even read the text.
