Have you ever bought a game because a hot girl/guy was in it

Lots of super cool dudes in here ready to tell us how they don't find anyone in games attractive.

I gave this some thought after my initial post and thought I'd provide some examples. I've definitely bought games partly or fully because the characters looked AWESOME.

-Neir Automata was bought because I heard a lot of people speak very highly of it and it had a cool looking female lead.

-DOA5LR was bought because I've always dug the women in those games and that series does costumes like nobody else in the industry. It is in a class of its own in that regard. I dig that.

-Hunted: The Demon's Forge had the cool female co-star and while the game was already fun, her Legolas-like agility and cool looks were a draw.

-Cheerleaders have never been my thing but Juliet in Lollipop Chainsaw was fun and though the game turned out to have tons of charm and style, it was the character that got my attention at first.

-Bayonetta's walk animation while shooting her guns was cool as hell the first time I saw it. That strut was just so sassy and confident, I thought it was awesome. Again, the game turned out to be incredible for many reasons (as did 2) but the character is what got my attention at first.

-Lara Croft has been a favorite of mine since the first game came out. Just like other games on my list, it was its own thing and was great for many reasons but AGAIN it was the character that got my attention at first. A female Indiana Jones? Awesome! She's doing backflips and shit? I couldn't give them my money fast enough.

-Killer Instinct on Xbox One is amazing but it is another in a long list of fighting games with one or more sexy females that have a certain style about them. Sadira is a bit of a butterface without her mask on, but her hips are a thing of beauty. Fighting games have a history of great attractive females so consider this KI mention a nod to the entire genre while we're at it.

Anyway, my point is that its fine to find characters sexy and let that be the reason you start paying attention to a game. While some people will trip over themselves to tell you how they're normal and its totally weird to see beauty in a fictional character, I'm here to tell you it ain't a big deal. Enjoy it and embrace it.

Never bought a game for 'sexy women on the front', but attractive (not necessarily sexy) character designs do help. Like The World Ends With You had some cool designs which helped my purchase decision.

I don't think I have, not that I can remember anyway. But I'm not judging either, I buy games for superficial reasons all the time.

The types of characters I would find attractive generally aren't featured much in games anyway, and certainly not in marketing material.

Put someone hot on the cover and someone will have to buy your game... because of the implication.

OT I can't say it's affected my decision to buy a game. May build initial intrigue, but that's about the extent of it.

An appealing female character has gotten me to buy a game here and there. The only time I got burned on it was some famicom disk system game. I thought it was going to be this cool underwater adventure game and instead it was a port of some awful pc simulation thing.

Well, I have bought Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 so I would be lying if I said that I haven't, but in general, it isn't quite up there as #1 priority when I'm thinking about what game I should buy next.

Yes, a couple of times. Usually with regret, but they got my money so I guess it worked well enough at least in my case.

I initially committed to EverQuest 2 over WoW specifically because of the sexy ladies on the cover. That lasted about a month before I switched over to WoW. lol

Nope. Not even once. In fact I don't like it when it seems like the game feels like it has to try to rope me in with ass and titties.

No, but I bought games because I just loved the art style. E.g. Persona 3 got my attention because I really liked the character portraits. Soejima is just an amazing artist!

In the internet age? Absolutely not, although BMXXX had me kinda interested back then I admit. Not sure how I went about buying games when I was a kid or young teenager and when good box art had the potential to sell me on a game. I know for a fact I bought many SNES games based on cover art so I guess it might have happened.

To be fair, one of my closest longtime friends still is very attracted to Rouge the Bat, although I didn't grow up or play Sonic games as a kid so I have absolutely no connection with the franchise at all.

Also, I'm not a furry.

I can see how he would instantly buy a game starring her if they made one all of a sudden.

No. Never been attracted to a female character.

Plus most protagonists are male, so the female characters aren't usually in like the marketing or trailers as much.

Yes. Final Fantasy X-2 was the earliest example of that.

Paine is such a badass design! I really love the Charlie's Angels type setup, and they're a great trio. They have brilliant battle animations as well.

On the flip side, I tried to get into FFX multiple times and never could get over Tidus.

Edit:It's an eroge and I was 15-16 at the time *shrugs*. Tho if I play one know I do skip the sex scenes as they do nothing for me now.

Fate/Extra. I'm not even a huge fate or rpg fan, but the idea of Saber in red calling me master appealed to the lonely soul inside me.

Part of my decision to buy WWE games is the roster, so yes. Maybe? Does that count?

If you mean solely based on in-game representation, then I retract my statement.

Have been tempted to buy Haydee because it unapologetically appeals to one of my kinks, but i have held strong to my belief that a game trying to sell only on tits and ass probably is shit.

I'll confess. I really wanted devil may cry so bad because I thought Dante was sexy af. At that period of my life, I was into vampire bad asses with white hair....I was 13. However I didn't get to finally buy the game until I was 19 which at that point, I grew up. So I don't really care polygons as sexual icons anymore....but I do appreciate a good female bad bitch design here and there

It's never the only selling point but it can be one of them, why not.
Does games with character creator count ?

Pn03, gamecube, vanessa.

Doa5lr, pc, hitomi.

i bought bayonetta because cliffy b said that if he could have worked on another dev game it would be bayonetta, but also she is hot

I wonder what the overlap is between people who buy a game because a character is hot and people who follow the word of Cliffy B. I read this post and it all felt so right to me.

as a kid hell yes - lara croft, some of the final fantasy covers, Nova from starcraft, even good ol' peach. Not so important nowadays but a good looking main character is preferable to an ugly one - lets face it though, its extremely rare to get an ugly playable character so even that can be funny and intriguing, like the usual saints row / skyrim / mass effect wtf-faces.

Thanks for making this topic. I often wonder when this is an unacknowledged element that makes certain games more popular than they otherwise would be. When I'm unfamiliar with a game or series and I'm thinking whether to try it out or not, it's something that I consider. A recent example is Persona 5.

To answer your question, no I don't believe I have ever done this. Part of the reason maybe that I'm older. I don't think I have ever found a video game character "hot". Real life people, yes, but not video game characters.

It's never been like the reason I bought a game (well, that I remember), but pretty regularly it can be a hook for me to look further into a game. I didn't buy Gravity Rush because Kat is the most precious creature to grace this earth, but it got me interested enough to follow the game and see that it was something that interested me when it might have flown under my radar otherwise. I didn't buy BoTW because of all the porn of Link in the female Gerudo outfit, but it certainly didn't hurt my interest in it.
