Anyone have any experience with this?? My battery indicator has been showing "Service Batery" for the better part of a year and a half and I've decided to finally take care of it.

I want to do the change myself but I don't want to get a 3rd party battery that ends up crapping out on me in a couple months.

I know Apple charges $129 for the service and that saves the warranty (which is likely non-exsistant at this point) so that is definitely another route to take but I'm saving this for a last resort of sorts.

Anyone know of any reliable outlets where I could purchase a battery?

Parts can be purchased there too.

Having said that you'll probably save money going the Apple route. $129 is a good price, if they can do it without sending it away - might be worth going that route.

Battery changes are not difficult though, so either way, your choice.

Find a genuine battery online and it's literally just removing screws and the battery connector.

If it was one of the newer ones with adhesive i'd say take it to a repair shop at the very least because those are a pain in he ass sometimes.

The replacement part costs $109 and the service costs from Apple is $129? You might as well save the warranty, put liability on them if it fries, and play it safe for the extra $20.

If you buy from ifixit, sure. But you can get apple genuine a-a+ grade batteries that are removed from existing macbooks on ebay for around 40-50.

Yea, it looks ridiculously easy to change out which is why I'm holding off on the Apple route.

I saw some batteries on Amazon with good reviews but not sure how much trust I can have in these. Here are some I found for around $60-$70

Ah, ok. I didn't realize how much markup genuine Apple parts have on a third-party.

All of those appear to be aftermarket replacements. I'd stick to one that is removed from a pre-existing macbook. Those will be genuine and still be able to be warrantied with apple or at least have a better chance of you getting service for other issues if they come up.

I would just make sure it's the same model number as the one you have . You can always do a quick search on ebay for a genuine apple macbook air battery with your model number and see what pops up. Just make sure to refine search for US only to weed out the china garbage that takes a month to ship.

Not a prob. Just to let you know, the one I linked was for the 11".

Found one for the 13" just have to verify model numbers and you should be good to go if you're worried about potential fakes.

That one is an oem from china resold through a US vendor. I've used similar ones for customers in the past with no issues.
