I bought the founders pack, so far it was a great purchase, I bought lots of cards and even some skins with the chests and money returned
 
Man, I'm still really digging this game. I feel like every hero has a fighting chance against every other hero. I don't feel the bad matchups like in Overwatch, but maybe I haven't yet gotten that far yet.

HiRez is good at pricing founder's packs. The Smite founder's pack/all heroes pack was well worth the $30. I find this founder's pack is also worth the money. A lot of these heroes are very fun to play.

I love to unlock stuff so I would never buy one in either Smite or Paladins buy I am glad that the option is there for people who don't want to grind. The grind in Paladins is exceptionally short to be honest. I have been playing for just a few days and I have already unlocked all but two characters and I have also unlocked about 20 cards. The gold is really showering on me in this game.

The trumpet fanfare before he says that line does nothing but freak me the hell out.

I get genuinely frightened.

So is it good for newbies and for soloplayers? The only reason I kinda don´t play Overwatch...

You can practice against AI teams on a co-op team with four other players. The AI is actually challenging at times, as well. Playing this co-op vs AI actually earns you both account EXP and character EXP, and you earn just as much EXP as you would in actual PVP matches at the end. I don't think you can do that in Overwatch. There's also a shooting range where you can just practice any hero.

I'd say the game isn't quite as newbie friendly as Overwatch, because Paladins has more character specialization with the character specific card decks, and you can also buy items during a match to give your character special effects like dealing extra damage to shields or increasing your reload speed. Overwatch is just pick up and play, whereas this has more "customization", for lack of a better term.

Outside of the customization aspect, the gameplay for both games feels very, very similar. If you spent a lot of time with Overwatch, then the gameplay of Paladins will feel very similar.

For solo-queueing on PVP, you'll still encounter the problem of people not playing to the objective like in Overwatch, but I've had more fun solo-queueing in Paladins than in Overwatch so far.

I'd say its pretty straight forward, you pick a role and try to stick to it while supporting ur team by capturing the objective:

- Front lines should always make it a priority to stay on the objective as long as you can, ensuring proper defence shielding for your team generally

- Healers should ensure to stick with the tank providing support fire as well as keeping the team (and themselves) alive

- Damage dealers generally have pretty good crowd control and aoe, make sure to pick off any enemy flankers who decide to catch your team off from behind while providing pressure to the enemy contesting the objective

- Flanks are mostly more effective for flanking and team disruption, you assist your teams by staying hidden and taking out their damage dealers and healers from behind.

I would recommend playing Flanks or damage if you tend to play solo, since they have the least requirement for team co-ordination. Game is really easy to get into and plays pretty well too, though I don't have a good enough connection to really enjoy it fully -v-

So far I find the matches to go by much faster than Overwatch, but having two teams going head to head during overtime can drag quite long (like overwatch!)

Hi-rez also has a youtube channel detailing patches and general strategies which are pretty helpful too

Why do I actually love this game? Why did I spend $13 on the Founder's Pack? What the hell kind of bizzare-o world did I enter where this is genuinely awesome?

Thanks to mcz117chief for making the OT. I was considering it when I made the other beta thread but I'm not skilled enough with OT creation. Looks great :D Also didn't know about the free skins so that was handy!

My pleasure. It was a nice exercise before Shadow Warrior 2 and World of Final Fantasy.
 
So this beta version only have one game mode?

The current version only has siege. But they also will be re-releasing payload, soonish (don't know exactly when the next patch hits). There is also capture and survival mode that were available in older versions.

Payload is as it suggests... escort the payload to the end of the map. If you beat the other team's escort time, you win.

Survival is TDM with a twist. It's round based, you only get 1 life per round. Each round 1 of 3 points on the map would be the focal point of the battle, as over time the map's playable area shrinks down to a very small area (cloud of death circles the map and shrinks the area over time). I don't know if or when they'll be adding this back in, or even how it will be because the mode used the old maps which were much larger.

They also had a capture only mode, so basically siege without the payload section.

I don't know what modes they plan on adding back in or what form they will be in. Even payload is a bit different because before you only played one side of the payload, but they've confirmed you now play both sides.

I don't know how they'll manage playlists/modelists in the future. They did it a couple different ways in the past. At one point you voted on what map/mode you played before the character selection screen. But I wouldn't be surprised if they don't just have a single mode and the map/mode is random, because that is how Overwatch does it and I think it's worked out well.

The traditional Payload mode wouldn't overlap with the Siege mode too much, because in Siege, there's a chance that one team won't be able to escort the payload at all if they can't manage to capture the point.

In the Payload mode, both teams get to escort the payload. It's basically a "stopwatch Payload" mode. One team escorts it when the mode begins, and then once that round ends, the defending team then switches over to escorting. Whoever gets the payload to the end point faster wins, and if both teams didn't get to the end point, whoever got the payload further will win.

I'm fairly certain we'll be seeing Ying re-added this coming week sometime. Beyond that I'm not sure they've said anything about new characters. Most recent dev talk has been about the new game mode and maps that are on deck to be released.

And since that time Grover was reworked from a melee hero into a ranged hero. Ying also had her abilities reworked for her re-release IIRC. It's not like the game has stagnated for 8 months, they've been focusing on iterating the game design. I wouldn't use that as a precedent to gauge the frequency of new heroes being added to the game in the future.

And quite honestly, for me the 16-17 heroes currently in the game is enough variety to keep me occupied for now. The game is in more dire need of new maps and game modes than it is heroes in it's current state. Keep in mind it's still in beta. These things take time!

Word. I share your sentiment. Maps and modes are a priority as well as stuff like stability and performance (even though the last two are pretty good you can never have too much stability).

Considering Paladins is now the third most popular free-to-play game on Steam, it's fairly understandable that the influx is breaking shit.

But please, Hi-Rez, I wanna play today. :<
 
I would have played this game if it didnt have the card system, but that alone killed it for me.

What's wrong with the card system? You pick a card for you ability and make a custom deck or use the standard deck. You can completely ignore the card system if you want.
 
I installed this game but i couldn't get past the account creation thing in the beginning. It would not accept my Google account and also wouldn't let me continue by creating a new account. Meh

This game is so much fun.
I think I did well in this match. It's the most I've died though :( in the 3 or 4 matches i've played I only die about 3 times.
