180K salary is insane, i can almost guarantee that you can find people to do it for a fraction of that. Hell, seal team 6 makes about a third of that.

whoa, can already see the dystopian version of him being always escorted by privately hired mercenaries in full black armor...

"They work for much cheaper than the wasteful Secret Service. I'm saving America money! Please stop complaining about how I've endowed my private mercenary entourage with wildly inappropriate supra-legal powers to exercise in pursuit of my perceived safety."

This is something you don't even think is possible. Like, surely the government has accounted for the budgetary needs of the secret service.

Accounted for? They pay to stay at some of the most expensive locations...they had to protect a building in downtown new york that has multiple entry points and an FYI that they were was a dispute with trump tower and where they should stay since they freaking wont give them a floor to work on. Trump keeps bragging how he donated his salary to who the heck knows what when he turns around and takes a million plus salary from tax payers paying for his protection to travel across his properties. But you know what, the government (We taxpayers) Should have accounted for his budgetary needs.

Ya, it probably means they just keep going on faith and get reimbursed when the next admin pops in or something.

It's just such a weird thing to let happen considering how dead set they are on traveling everywhere. And good lord do I not want a sitting President to get assassinated again

If I wasn't getting paid to protect an orange piece of refuse, you can bet your bottom dollar I would turn in my two weeks notice.

Government will move funding around from some other programs to keep USSS funded for remaining budget year and then just boost their funding in next budget to comp for current POTUS habits of travel.

This is hilariously sad thing to happen, but this won't make Secret Service not to protect head(s) of state and their families as money will be found.

Amazingly, the Secret Service didn't bank on the President being a rotten, smoldering, self serving asshole but here we are.

SEAL Team 6 would not do this job. The fringe benefit of being in Special Operations is you get tons of downtime and basic exemption from all the absurdist bullshit of being a regular service member.

The Secret Service is the opposite of that; they're already pushing their yearly allowance of overtime on the job, and they've basically got to be at maximum prim-and-proper parading bullshit stature 24/7.

This is basically like when an indy promoter says 'I'll get you next time kid' except it applies to the people protecting the President

And it probably ends with them bouncing and leaving him extremely unprotected which ain't good at all
Just go out there and I'll pay ya double next time

That's the plotline for White House Down 2, where Channing Tatum tries to save its budget as one of those who was fired from Secret Service after a new president was elected. During the movie he will discover that the money has beem diverted to another type of secret service, specifically the pee tapes type.

Let's all remember that time right wing media exploded over the false claim it was going to cost 1 million a day for Obama to go to india.

Countless studies show when you pay your employees well they tend to be more loyal.

180k is completely fine for a group of men and women who are sworn to take a bullet for the President, and are his protection detail 24/7 in the literal sense.

The sheer expense of his security and travels always has such a particular sleaziness to it I find, given his administration's agenda with regards to slashing budgets on anything that isn't the military.

Alles said the service is grappling with an unprecedented number of White House protectees. Under Trump, 42 people have protection, a number that includes 18 members of his family. That's up from 31 during the Obama administration.
~35% increase in protectees, but also with a way higher frequency in frivolous self-serving travel.

Since his inauguration, Trump has taken seven trips to his estate in Mar-a-Lago, Fla., traveled to his Bedminster, N.J., golf club five times and returned to Trump Tower in Manhattan once.

Trump's frequent visits to his "winter White House" and "summer White House" are especially challenging for the agency, which must maintain a regular security infrastructure at each – while still allowing access to paying members and guests.
Trump's other sons, Trump Organization executives Donald Jr. and Eric, based in New York, also are covered by security details including when they travel frequently to promote Trump-branded properties in other countries.
Look at this shit. Look at it.

Donald Trump just shot himself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about the Secret Service (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are a huge part of it. It's not like it is in Russia where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in the US, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the American public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to pay taxes to protect the president, nor will they want to pay for any of Trumps golf vacations. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Trump has alienated an entire market with this move.

Trump, publicly apologize and pay your Secret Service or you can kiss your presidency goodbye.

Are former presidents and family also protected by the secret service after the presidency?

If yes, I can see Trump tweet about this regarding Obama and specially Clinton protection. "Why do they need protection? They have enought crooked money."

Or else he will ignore this story... haha no way.

That's fine. I'm sure there are plenty of die-hard supporters who would gladly volunteer their time to protect him and his family free of charge.

EDIT: Beaten. :(

oh well...what's the worst that could happen?

At the end of the day they will keep protecting 45. They'll probably just skim some money out of my social security or something .

Of course this happened! This is the most attacked president in American history! No! Human history! Defending such a precious little victim was obviously going to be expensive.

I'm waiting for the tweets from 2013 where he accuses Obama of wasteful spending because Obama used a plane to get to an event or Something. You know they exist.

They can pay the Secret Service with all that counterfeit currency that will be in circulation now...

Yep, with the Secret Service broke and no longer able to protect him, he'll have to create his own bodyguards! I'm sure they'll want some continuity with the old organisation, though, so they'll probably do something like keep the initials.

Heh

Trump will definitely seek more money for them, it one way he his funneling government money into his pockets. SS agents have to stay at his hotels and resorts.

It's the law that they protect trump and his family, so it's not like they can refuse to protect them. But with no money, agents just don't get compensated if congress doesn't grant them more money? So agents will be leaving, in great numbers, or they'll drain my tax dollars to keep this family protected. They mention a massive hiring campaign at the end of the article. So I can't help but think the secret service is going to end up like the border patrol, their pay will go down, and they will bring in unqualified people who aren't properly vetted.

Yeah, this will go well. :(

Fucking party of "fiscal responsibility"
