I've played BotW recently and have been really impressed with it's draw distance

So what are some other games with really impressive draw distances?

Crysis 1 too. Not too sure apart from that, it'll be mostly open world games, and mostly on PC.
Xenoblade X and RDR were impressive considering the hardware.

But yeah, Arma 3.

FFXV in Duscae Region.

It stretches really fucking far into the distance.

The best one, by far. I don't know what they did with the LoD, but it is simply stunning. In the distance even more so.

The Last Guardian. You can easily see the endgame areas from near the beginning and vice versa and much of the detail going on in between is rendered at surprising distances. You can actually see puzzles you'll encounter like over a dozen hours later in detail. Its really cool actually.

BotW is awesome with far away geographic features but at the same time objects very close to you tend to pop in.

BotW is impressive with landscapes, but I hate when enemies/animals pop in like 50 feet away.

I don't know how many times I try to look at an enemy camp from a distance, see nothing, and have to get up close to see like ten enemies.

BotW is a pretty weird choice, as it has impressive and terrible draw distance. Sometimes simultaneously.

I agree, as close as the real thing I have ever seen in a game.

This. The game's "faded" visuals drew me nuts and made me think my TV's contrast was messed up

BoTW is a great game but no, its not a pick for showcasing graphics tech/draw distance

I guess if you mean "Nintendo game" with good draw distance it counts.

Yeah, you can see the big features/landscape from all the way across the map with no fog, but the little details will pop in.

Because it has amazing artstyle? Its the same reason people say Xenoblade has an amazing open world because the artstyle and the way its done makes it look beautiful even on less powerful hardware.

Yeah, not sure how BotW inspired this thread since the draw distance in that game is extremely unremarkable, but there are recent games which showcase rather impressive draw distances, such as FFXV.

I haven't played BotW but it always looks extremely blurry from the haze/fog or whatever it is that is in screens/videos I've seen of it. It actually kind of hurts my eyes looking at it. I'm sure it's a great game, but the draw distance doesn't seem to be particularly impressive.

I don't disagree that it has a rather fantastic artstyle. But artstyle isn't draw distance.

People say Zelda because you can see towers, mountains and other important landmarks from practically one side of the map to the other, don't see why it's so hard to follow.

It's clear however that the game just has a set of landmarks it showcases at high distances since the draw distance for enemies and other objects is rather low.

I think Breath of the Wild has impressive draw distance, but really aggressive level of detail fading. You can see geometry from far away, but actors tend to fade in and out rather abruptly.

I haven't played BOTW, but is the LOD scaling really that impressive? Not a knock, but actually curious.

I recall Witcher 3 being fairly decent with draw distance and lod transitioning, at least nothing too noticable. Playing on PC however, so I could be mistaken.

BoTW has fairly poor LOD from even relatively close distances. You could be flying over an enemy camp and not see any enemies.

BotW is one of the worst. Far away geometry/landscape is the same in 99% of games now that the era of fog is gone. Not impressive. Impressive draw distance is enemies, foliage, textures and light sources. BotW is awful in this regard.

It was playing Zelda that gave me the idea for the thread as the game impressed me, I wasn't saying I think it has the best draw distence of any game ever, merely that it was a starting point to discuss games with a fantastic draw distance

Hopefully we can get back to discussing other games now :)

Yeah ARMA 3 is incredibly impressive considering you can shoot someone 2.5 miles away.

Some games have great draw distances, but not all of them actually show activity or enemies as far as you can see.
