Media Create Sales: Week 28, 2017 (Jul 10 - Jul 16)

The Zodiac Age opened to less than 10k for Type-0 HD. Guaranteed, that one had demo for FFXV but still not something that can be considered a great result. It is not as worse as earlier reports predicted either.

It is a great result considering Japan as it is more of a western oriented game. The game will sell better in the West.

It is not, especially if you consider the sales of the original.

Code:
PS2	Final Fantasy XII	1.840.397	2.322.541	Square Enix	3/16/2006

Seems like as time passed, fans don't remember it as fondly as Final Fantasy X, which had almost the same sales as Final Fantasy XII but its remaster more than double TZA's OW.

People buying Switch for the Splatoon 2 launch knowing full well they won't have time for other games

This sentence goes against every argument you've had for the rest of the Switch software lineup benefiting from Splatoon 2/increased hardware sales.

Crash trilogy still not released on Japan?

Releases August 3th.

Only if you take it literally. If Noshten meant to say that no games will be sold because of Splatoon 2 he is wrong, but I highly doubt he is. The ratio of attach for other games will be down because most will buy Splatoon 2 and maybe other games instead of just other games, but the volume of hardware units available will offset that and then some.

This is not mutually exclusive with my conclusion. Japanese fans don't like the game that much, so Square Enix's expectation for the remaster could be lower.

Total sales aside, after the fact, FFXII is regarded as one of the least popular mainline entries. FFX is regarded as one of the more popular mainline entries. It's really not surprising it didn't do as well as X did since it is not as popular as X is.

26) Splatoon 2 Squid Amiibo(¥1,296)
27) Splatoon 2 Boy Amiibo(¥1,748)

93) Splatoon 2 Amiibos + Calie/Marie Set(¥10,990)
96) Joy Con Silicon Splatoon cover(¥1,127)
97) Splatoon(Wii U)

This sentence goes against every argument you've had for the rest of the Switch software lineup benefiting from Splatoon 2/increased hardware sales.

The difference between this week and last is negligible at best for all we know other trackers were closer to the actual hw total than MC last week and that's why you see titles dropping rather than going up. I have no doubt there would be people buying Switch + Splatoon 2 with no intention to buy any other game, but we will talk again next week after we finally see a substancial stock of Switches being sold and how it effects BotW, MK8D, Arms and other titles.

Good opening for Hey Pikmin and the New 2DS LL. I think 100k is pretty neat for FFXII. Pretty disappointed with Ever Oasis and even Hakoniwa Company Works though. I think those games deserve more than what they got...

From the previous thread:

Sorry, can't see as cocky having opinions and continuing supporting them with tons of words and examples

It's not just Code Vein and DB Fighter Z. It's also the Naruto game, for example.
It is worrying seeing Bandai (I mean: BANDAI, not From Software) announcing manga/anime licensed games, skipping the Switch. They announced a port of a One Piece 3DS game, let's see if the new One Piece game will be also on Switch (the one pre-announced alongside the VR experience). Hopefully it will.

But also the situation concerning MH and DQ is very worrisome. I mean: you act as they are normal, big, main episosed coming out in a proper timelapse compared to the competition. Instead their commercial value in terms of sales but also in terms of Switch perception have been devaluated a lot since their reveal, by SE and Capcom way of handling them.

The Wii U too had MHU3 and DQX, and probably all considered it had them managed in a better way than MHXX and DQXI, don't you think so?

I know that Wii U also had DQ and MH (even if the DQ game was an online one that did sell "only" 650.000 units on Wii) but more than 4 months later from Switch's launch we're already seeing that Switch and Wii U situation are nothing alike.

At the end of the day it could be worrisome seeing Naruto, Dragon Ball, Code Vein or Tekken skipping Switch for now (maybe they'll get ports later) but this doesn't mean that Bandai Namco are not supporting Switch or that they're waiting and will announce their games on 2018 and release them on 2019.

Several third parties were caught by surprise with Switch's success, that's true, but some of them are trying to rectify this and we'll see their intentions sooner than "late 2018 or 2019". Also I don't think MHXX and DQXI Switch versions have been devaluated by its companies, they will sell well for whatever they end up being. The worrisome thing should be what lessons SE and Capcom learn from that. If they repeat the "RE4 to RE: Umbrella Chronicles" situation on Wii then we could start saying that this could bring issues in the mid term but right now (4 months from Switch's launch) there's nothing worrisome on the third party side for Switch, trust me.

That's why I told you to bring again the argument next year to see the landscape of third party games released and announced so we can see better what lessons did third party companies learn regarding Switch.

Are we already at the stage of this thread where we downplay PS4 sales?

PS4 was pumped by the 3rd post... the stage was already set then.

Besides, what's so beast about PS4 number at 36K this week or almost 5 mil after almost 3.5 years in Japan?

100k for FF XII is better than I expected.

I had hoped the Switch would increase more but I was probably kidding myself.

Hakoniwa Company Works looks like a game that should have been on the Vita too.
They built Hakoniwa Company Works with Unreal Engine 4, which doesn't support Vita. Maybe Switch would've been a good idea, but I doubt whether it's worth the resources since 4500 copies on PS4 isn't promising much...

Pretty good debut for the 2DS LL and Pikmin. FFXII opened better than I expected too.

Nice to see Bomberman back in the charts. It will surely hit 100k on Media Create, maybe in a couple weeks if it's benefited by Splatoon 2's launch. Next week should be much more exciting for everything Switch related.

Some of you guys are taking my clearly tongue-in-cheek post too seriously. All it meant was that the PS4 sold well and has been selling decently the last few weeks. It's like there's this constant tension in MC threads every week. Relax, dudes.

I think it's fantastic to see higher sales driven by desirable titles. A large number of console and software sales propelled by big title releases such as DQXI would be amazing, especially as it would bode well for Monster Hunter World in Japan, which I know you're all hoping will succeed. :]

Yeah, it's funny how some people don't get that "beast" reference.

Bomberman legs still working.

2DS LL bump and Hey Pikmin release gave 3DS a nice bump.
We'll see how Splatoon and Switch HW plays out next week

So many people here thinking 100k is a good surprise for FFXII...I think it just shows how the series has fallen from grace in Japan :-/

Switch..don't know what to say anymore. Looking comparatively to PS4 is worrying, but if it still is so supply costrained...the only comment could only be: shame on Nintendo, because they are leaving tons and tons of sales on the table

What do you mean "if" it is supply constrained? Have you seen the lottery lines?

I think that's too low, YSO predicted 800K which would be closer to 80% without accounting digital sales.

Wouldn't that be insane to the level of it never been achieved before? Has any game ever achieved an 80% attach rate 4 months into launch? (without being bundled "for free")

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

At some point you just have to readjust your expectations.

I'm assuming this is sarcastic but Capcom clearly doesn't look at Japan's mediocre PS4 sales when they make decisions to develop games for it.
Well is that why they relegate their biggest franchise in Japan to a Western pandering spin-off?

It is a great result considering Japan as it is more of a western oriented game. The game will sell better in the West.
So why did 2,5 millions Japanese people bought the OG game if it was that western oriented? I know the context was different but I don't think this is the correct explanation for the remaster numbers.
