Well guess I'm playing HoTS for the first time.

I really don't get though why you have to play with a friend? That seems really stupid why can't you just play the matches? I don't know a single person in real life that plays this game
Given the way basically all their games work, I'm guessing they've found that playing with a friend increases retention.

So guys do I pick my pack first or open these 30 boxes first?

Have almost everything in the support group so deciding between assassin or brawler packs and rather not get ripped off From getting dupes or something

You should get your pack first. If you do get dupes of the heroes that you gained from your pack you will get shards. If you don't take the pack first you won't get anything other than gaining the heroes you could have got from the pack.

That's how I understand it works, at least.

Didn't try the first event but this time I'll bite even though I don't have any friends on battle.net. Feel free to add me Xerzewatt#1435

Oh, for fuck's sake, Blizzard. I like the stuff you're throwing out, but needing to play with a friend and needing to play a fucking MOBA as well? Fuck off.
I'm one of those people who sorta gets why people play MOBAs but also mostly doesn't get why people play MOBAs because they're just not fun to play, for various reasons including MOBAs generally being so drawn-out and matches taking so long that I'd rather just play a multiplayer game that actually has sane match times.

You don't really need a friend for this event, just say you are looking for a party for the skins on chat and people will add you.

And the first week can be done in less than 30 minutes. Just go to vs A.I. and rush one lane.

Games in HOTS take about 20 minutes on average, with about a 5 minute variance either way at times depending on how it goes. Last I checked, ranked OW probably averages around 15-20 mins a game as well, sometimes lower or higher depending on the map and whether the game is competitive or actually a stomp. It's not really that different to me in time consumption. HOTS is not League or Dota with match length.

Well... Fuck it. I guess I'll try and tolerate it and see how I go. Just five games a week can't be too bad...

I'm not saying you'll love it. Some don't, but it's definitely way more accessible than other MOBAs and the time thing shouldn't be too different. And like the other poster said, the first week you can just cheese the rewards in AI games that only take ~5 mins a piece.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Fuck man i made a huge mistake, i spent the 100 gems we got for the mega bundles on lootboxes since i didn't know it would tell me later i need the gems for the bundle....

Now my question is can you earn gems in-game? and if yes how long does it take to get 100 gems?

For you.
great, game tells me ""Our login system has detected a change in your in your access pattern"" and doesn't let me play. It says they will send an email but nothing arrives. Overwatch still works fine and my email is correct.

They did add the Diablo 3 Prime Evil Diablo skin with the 2.0 patch. It's really great. Her custom mount animation makes her look like a xenomorph from Alien.
Saw someone use that skin yesterday. Its just a thing of beauty. Would have paid real bucks to get it if I was a Diablo main.

On topic. Already did my 5 matches w friends yesterday. This game is just fantastic, but way better with teammates and other player chatting and coordinating (as most games are). My support/specialist skill is still top notch, Sgt Hammer, Brightwing & Sylvanas ftw! Did not like HotS Lucio, his heals are poor in a fight.

Probably worth noting for the people in this thread on the fence, there's a "new player" chat you get dumped into by default when you start and it's a lot of people who are just looking to do the matches to get the OW stuff.

So for those who "don't have any friends that play HotS," you should have no problem finding a couple people for matches. esp this week, as you can do versus AI.

Also, fwiw, I did the tutorial last night, two matches, and one this morning. people are overall helpful and the game is very simple and streamlined, at least from my perspective. Not a real steep learning curve at all to just get in the matches and play.

I tried playing HoTS for the first time last night. This game just seemed kind of boring. Maybe because I was playing tanks? I'm kind of dreading having to play enough games to get the skins for OW now.

Lucio is crazy good, and his heals are insane post level 16. Just gotta save your Amp healing for the right moments to turn the tide in team fights.

I only played two matches so far (+1 vs AI) and I'm not quite that down on it, but it isn't super exciting yet. I'm not sure MOBAs are for me, but this one has definitely been easier to get into than the half hour I spent trying to learn dota (i realize that isn't enough time).

The guy who was my sherpa last night was playing lucio. It was very helpful. I've been playing assassin chars (maybe not the best to start with) and it makes me a bit fragile. was nice having someone to heal when you get too far ahead of yourself.

If you're playing AI on Beginner for this week, they can last as long as OW MM times. Pretty short matches depending on the maps.

Recycling the first 2 week awards is p lame. At least add the HOTS Oni Genji skin to it.

The D.Va skin is really nice, but it should really unlock a Overwatch version.

Seems like a real low effort attempt on the hots side.

To be honest, I love the fact that the rewards that start on week 2 require at least quick matches to be obtained.

In the last Nexus Challenge people were going against beginner AI and just rushing a single lane, which was insanely boring - no one wanted to play actual matches against other players.

Can't wait to get home from work and get stuck in

So I recruited my wife to play as my 'friend' and she had never played a game like this before. Her words last night: "I don't hate this."

I wake up today and she bought some lootboxes to get candyland Muradin and a shiny star chariot mount. Blizzard couldn't get me but they got my wife.

Ew. D.va skin week requires playing against people and not AI? Blegh. Why Blizzard.

Instead the fastest way to do it will be for one team to just throw the match and not actually try to play. Or a portion of the players on that team anyways.

Blizzard wins.

Blizzard knows their demo. i was tempted to spend money last night too lol.

I made the same mistakes. I didn't know Mega Bundles were a thing until it was already too late. I assumed it gave you these gems to give you a taster to buy lootboxes with.

Someone in chat told me though that you get more gems once you reach level 5, so sticking with it should hopefully get you the gems you need.

Update
I hit level 5 last night, and can confirm. Should be pretty easy and quickly to get. I got mine about at the same time as I got my Nexus Challenge reward.

Genji skin farm is live until next tuesday?

Nah

Someone posted a few pages back (or maybe OP) but all of the stuff, as it becomes available by week, is available throughout the entire time, through the end of week 4

E:

Nope, need to do week one first but you can start next week if you'd like

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
When did Overwatch get Mounts?

Judging by the thriving shipping and accompanying fan art community I'd say mounting has been a part of Overwatch since day 1.
