The Song above you... Rate it!!!

Edit: Wow, didn't hit refresh at all... Here we go.

I liked it. The vocals sound familiar, I can't quite put from where. 9/10

I couldn't decide which to post, so just choose.

Heartbeats (Live) by The Knife: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrjwqXwyzNU

or:

Mandala by The Dear Hunter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL9Q0zyPZ_E

I went with Mandala because I dont trust live music.
8/10 for me. Its easy to listen to and doesnt offend my ears.
Mine is...
Spiderbait - Buy Me a Pony (a very short but likable song)

Wow! I absolutely love this! I was sold 30 seconds in, then it just got better and better.

11/10

Bonus point for the introduction!

Massive Attack feat. Hope Sandoval - Paradise Circus

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGyzKqOeZ50&feature=fvwrel

Just so gorgeous, maybe my favourite MA track, and that's with Mezzanine being one of my all time favourite albums. It's just so delicate and soothing.

Edit: seriously injurai, what a brilliant thread. Also, I will apologise in advance for the mobile links, I'm a phone poster! You'll be able to find it easy enough if the link is duff.

haha thanks, got the idea from another music-centric forum =o

9/10, great song. Speaking of which Sanoval with Mazzy Star is apparently coming back this year.

Wow, excellent! I don't usually dig that type of music, but definitely 9/10. I keep thinking how cool it would be to cruise around in Sleeping Dogs to that song!

Dream Theater - Hollow Years (Live)

Please make sure you listen to the solo (best part of the song).

Quite liked this one, the guitar work was stellar. 8/10.

Gonna go old school for this one... apologies if the next poster doesn't like it.

Def Leppard - Switch 625

From the wonderful guitar of Steve Clark, the member of the group who sadly departed from this life back in 1991. His guitar work wasn't the most technically brilliant of his time, or even of the group, but he put his heart and soul into it and he came up with some very amazing stuff, to the point that he is often listed among the top guitarists of the last century. He is very, very much missed.

Edit - Dammit, Shadow! Listening to yours now.

EditEdit - And done.

Love it! Wonderful tone, beautiful harmonies. Thanks for sharing, definitely going to look up the artist. 10/10.

It's not really my thing, but I can still respect it. I also really love expanding my horizons as far as music and songs I've never heard, so it'll get a little bump regardless of how much I hate that guitar tone. It's mainly me being a product of my time and not growing up around that sluuuudge. Riff is sick though. Solid 7.5/10

I really like it, funny lyrics, great voice, and fat riffs. I like the dynamics too, nice dead stops and what not.

"It's times like this, I just need a hug *sigh*"

Lol.

9/10

Richie Havens - Here Comes The Sun (Beatles Cover)

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VBbXKsKXyNU

I just love the spin he puts on it, his rendition is so energetic.

The link you quoted wouldn't work, so I just searched his name on the main site. I didn't like it I'm afraid - it was competently played, but it seemed to be just a constant patter of guitar noise with little melody, really crushing the song. Sorry man, just not my cup of tea. But points for an original take on a well known song. 4/10.

Enigma - The Eyes of Truth

One of my favourite Enigma songs, with a great video to go along with it.

Not really my type of music, but it sounds very cool, love the beat

Underworld - Born Slippy.NUXX

(edited)
Eh, you're probably referring to Born Slippy.NUXX which was used in Trainspotting. This is Born Slippy : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fr1x-N3-k8
Correct, sorry!

Born Slippy is a 90's classic. I love its use in Trainspotting, the way that first keyboard chord comes in just as a plume of Begbie's smoke hits Rent's face, it's just perfect. One of the best uses of music in movie for me.

9/10

Otis Redding - Billy Jack

So, so smooth. And the horns one the last chorus are out of this world. It's just one of one those tracks, where I hear the first three notes, and a grin creeps across my face. "Aw. Yiss!"

Sounds old school, but I like it. The music is crisp and upbeat. 9/10

I liked it. Can't explain why though... 8/10

Kerry Muzzey - Bernini's Angels
As you got skipped:

Big, epic sound. Reminded me of Hans Zimmer initially, but got a bit more ethereal. I liked it, but maybe not something I'd listen to for music's sake if you know what I mean. More like good soundtrack music to me.

Still, for what it seemed to be going for,

8/10
Oomikami's song: 7/10, pretty good. Sounds a bit like The Avalanches, but more mellow.

Here's mine:

Radio Dept - Heaven's on fire.
Yeah, upbeat, melodic, and I liked the filter on his voice. The horns at the end were nice too, not so sure about the synth stabs though!

7/10

Aaron Neville - Hercules

just too damn funky! His voice is great too.

Very funky! I also find his voice very pleasant. Not my style of music, but I give it a solid 7/10

And like I would not link Coheed here.

Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 (with lyrics!)

Edit: Also keep in mind if you didn't know that all Coheed songs are about a sci-fi story, this one in particular about a war.
The music reminded me a little of a more upbeat Tool; deep dark riffs with interesting dynamics and staccato rhythms. Not so sure on the voice if I'm honest. He's technically gifted, no doubt, just not my thing in terms of male vocals. But the lyrics Fiction, I know you're a stickler! There was some gems in there:

"Man your own Jackhammer!"

Plus, it's emo to the max. Gotta be a good thing right?

;P

7/10

One more, then I'll stop hogging the thread for a bit:

Bill Withers - Who Is He (And What Is He to You)

Simple, classy, and great lyrics. I adore this track.

Bill sweated soul!

Dude what the fuck? Juinored!?

Anyway, great tune. Great beat, love the strings, fantastic percussion... just chilled, man, mellow... soulful. Funky. Yeah, classic.

Good choice NBX! 8.5-9/10

Now I'm gonna shake the thread up a bit:

Shpongle - A New Way to Say Hooray. One of my favourite tracks of all time. So, so good. Give it a chance if you're skeptical.

*EDIT* Perhaps I didn't read the OP - it has to be songs, with lyrics? Boo this man... ah well, skip me if you want, I don't mind.

Huh, I don't see anything about lyrics in the OP...

Wow, man... that song just kept going. Liked it, though! Reminded me of Deep Forest's first album. 8/10.

Celtic Woman - A Spaceman Came Travelling

Going more than off the beaten path again, this time with Celtic Woman's live cover of Chris de Burgh's seminal A Spaceman Came Travelling. Not likely a popular choice with whoever replies next, so sorry in advance!

3/10 Sorry man, the whole production is a bit overdone. its also bit too easy listening / generic world for me. She has a great voice though. I do like celtic, or world music though. check out Dead Can Dance if you havent already.

I actually had never heard the original, and its great! 10/10.

Somehow the De Burgh reminded me of this song though:

Tim Buckley - Song of the Siren

Perfectly alright, man - with such a group that would always be a huge, overdone production. Half of the effort appears to be presentation, and the other half the song. As for yours, loved it, beautiful voice and nice simple guitar accompaniment. 10/10.

And now, for something completely different...(c)

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun

Hell yes.

Great live track.

Beautiful. She has a lovely tone to her voice. 9/10.

Thom Yorke - Hearing Damage

One of my favourite songs. Incidentally, I hope people don't mind that I appear to be spamming this thread with my stuff - I just love the idea of it, and I have so much great new music to discover. So thank you, OP.

This really reminds me of Backstreet Boys mixed with Kids Bop.

I don't really know if I like it though.

Witness - Thirst
Really loving this guy, didn't see he released new music!

Oh, this is lovely - very sublime. I listen to a lot of stuff like this, but mostly instrumental - however, I like this guy's tone. It's unobtrusive and flows over the music well. Nice.

Mariee Sioux - Buried in Teeth; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob6q-zbLRaQ

Never heard this song but IMPOSSIBLE not to like it. Not really a folk fan (if thats even what this is) well done good sir! 8/10

I listen to punk pop, so most of you music snobs probably wont be into this:

With the Punches - Face Value

Finally something with a little kick to it. Most songs in here were pretty mellow.

Nostalgia trip or early 00's. The song is alright, would be better with another singer IMO.

I think they call their music "bootgaze" ala "shoegaze + folk". Really a nice couple of guys, too.

Not the biggest fan of her voice.

7.5/10

Put it on me- ja Rule.

Never been a fan of Ja Rule, is voice is really annoying. Just kinda mediocre hip-hop track. 4/10

Jean Baudin - "Hundreds Upon Thousands"

This is one man two-hand tapping on an 11-string bass guitar, no overdubs.

It's definitely something i would fall asleep to, and I mean that in a good way. Soothing and relaxing, I like it. 7/10
