South Park balances ample fan service with gameplay that stands on its own merits and an engaging story. It won't make you a fan if you weren't one already, but it's hard to imagine a better-realized adaptation.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is loaded with toilet humor and enough F bombs to make Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kinison blush, but anyone following South Park over the past twenty years should be expecting that.

GameInformer - 8.75/10

The Fractured but Whole is a welcome sequel, maintaining the standard of quality set by the previous game and, in a broader sense, all of Parker and Stone's work. Every aspect is overloaded with both smart and immature jokes, the combat is an improvement, the game is bigger and longer, and the sneaky moments of sincerity make you recall the charm of childhood in surprising ways – just like the show.

IGN - 8.5/10

Another epic-length episode of the humor that's kept fans of the show laughing for 20 years. The Marvel vs DC parody delivers regular laugh-out-loud moments with only a few faltering gags, and the combat soon evolves into something much more complex and interesting than The Stick of Truth's simple system. Navigation and repetition of some of its simple puzzle mechanics drag a little, but it's otherwise an excellent South Park game that's also a strong RPG.

A great sequel with much more going on, and is built with a lot of love and respect for the series it comes from.

EasyAllies - 4/5

It's clear that The Fractured But Whole has a few issues that could have been ironed out prior to release, which is surprising given the game's delays. However, like The Stick of Truth before it, this game absolutely nails the look and feel of the show. Overall it's a slightly weaker effort than its predecessor, but it is still one of the funniest games out there.

Gamespot - 8/10

It's consistently amusing and provocative without the edginess the series used to be known for. Both the game's combat and explorative strengths effectively bridge the many comical plot developments, which range from mildly amusing to downright hilarious. It's an accomplishment that this game will wholly entertain devoted fans while delivering a heap of jokes that won't fly over the heads of casual viewers.

Hmmm, “loaded with toilet humor”.

I dunno, I’ve become a little less squeamish about really gross poop humor over the years, but the Mr. Slave’s ass stuff in the first game had me feeling really nauseous. That was a bit much for me.

Wonder how this compares?

Ctrl-F "PC Principal"

But the game was constantly jabbing at me for even caring about this stuff. The aforementioned meeting with Mr. Mackey balloons into a lengthy question-and-answer session where he tries to get every detail about your gender and sexuality right while seeming exasperated. And elsewhere, the PC Principal grants you “social justice certification” and teaches you how to spot microaggressions in battle, which he then explains in detail. It feels like there was a tug of war in development of The Fractured But Whole between being surprisingly accepting and forward-thinking, but also making sure it’s all still one big joke.

After all, you can’t care too much. That wouldn’t be cool.

Cheers Polygon.

Decent reviews. Seems like it's not reinventing much from the first game, and depending on how much you like the story some might prefer the first.

Judging reactions from when the first game came out, I think people just wanted more South Park PRG goodness, so I am glad they stayed safe for the most part here instead of radically changing too much.

The game is called the "The Fractured But Whole". I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Our review is up: 9/10 http://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/reviews/south-park-fractured-but-whole-review-1763589

Minor technical issues aside, the stellar combat, engaging narrative, and quirky humour make this 30 hour romp through the quiet mountain town of South Park, Colorado, worth checking out. Particularly if the TV show’s brand of humour gels with you. It’s a marked improvement over South Park: The Stick of Truth in almost every way. Role-playing games have had a bumper year with Persona 5, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole continues the trend in spectacular fashion.

I wasn't planning on picking this up at launch, but I'm really tempted. I might have to pick this up tonight. I am liking the reviews so far.

There isn't as much properly gross-out humour in there: you've still got farts and shit and piss jokes, but nothing quite on the level of climbing into a sphincter this time around

If you liked the first game, this is more of the same humour-wise with a better, more detailed world to explore and better combat generally.

Thanks for the thread Bits.
Great reviews so far, already got my pre-order in which is only like the second time I've done that this year.

Stick of Truth was magnificent imo so a sequel that meets that quality bar and more means I'm gonna love this.

Can't wait to get stuck in.

I'm hoping this game does extremely well and is well regarded without having a 90s metacritic score, just so we can stop insisting games have to be considered perfect to be worth our time.

Great reviews. Its amazing that Mario+Rabbids ends up above South Park in the MC score, nobody could predict that, not even Ubisoft. Another great game, 2017 year keeps delivering.

Spoiler tagged scores are gross.

Read a few. Seems good! I played half of the first game and thought it was just okay, but I was out of date on the show (I still am but less so) and wasn’t all that engaged in the fantasy narrative. Superheroes are more my style and improved combat is big. Will pick up discounted on console or on PC at some point.

Seems pretty good! Polygon and Eurogamer reviews line up with my general feelings on South Park, so going by them I'll probably have a decent time with it.

So after spoiler tagging lists we now spoiler tag review scores too? A bit annoying if you ask me, can you remove them?

You really going to spoiler tag review scores in a review score thread? This is pretty frustrating on mobile.

Spoilertags on the scores?

Is this a thing?

Why?

Yeah, I don't understand this. I knowingly clicked a review thread, I think I know what I got myself into here. This just makes it absurdly difficult/annoying to glance through the scores.

So no spoiler tags then? Is that the general consensus?

Thought it would be better for the publications and maybe persuade people to go and read the reviews rather than just eyeball the score.

If people want them gone, ill take them out though.

EDIT, Right, stop talking about my terrible thread and start talking about the game. Thanks :)

Nice.

Overall great reviews! Much better than I expected after the last season.

Yh I thought the last season was pretty poor, but the game gets the comic timing down - and that's way rarer than I ever really thought about in gaming.

Also, it feels in the writing like Trey and Matt aren't trying quite as hard as the most recent series have to find something to make fun of. It's a purer, clearer narrative without trying to be satirical for the sake of it.

Not sure why we need to spoiler tag review scores in a review thread... or why a review score would need a spoiler tag period.

Overall reviews seem about where I expected, seems like a solid follow up where your enjoyment will hinge on how much you like south park's brand of humor.
