I ask this like every year. Basically you ignore your missing party members' jobs. So when you lose Galuf for a bit, you can use his job, and when you have Galuf only, you can use any job. Barring of course any other additional rules you may be playing by.

So I'm doing #upgrade, went Black Mage->Red->Beastmaster and now we're all Dancers in the Moore Forest up against the crystals. As I went I didn't grind out mastery of Black and Red, so I don't have RedX2 or any Black magic higher than level 4.

With the best +Resistance gear I've got, I can barely take one Aqua Breath. And I don't have the damage output to drop a crystal from half before they get out two. None of the monsters in the forest seem to have useful Catch effects.

Anyone know of something smart I could do, or is it grind time? Good monsters I could catch if I left the fores?

I really like not getting back attacked ever and stealing is fun in this game (it gets better every game from IV-IX!) but because I try to never run from fights its not the best class for my play style. The speed can actually be pretty damn helpful though, especially considering I always get stuck with Thief+Berserker.

And World 1 is done for the 3xBerserker+Beastmaster team. Gonna do some gil grinding before I get in the portal though.

Soul Cannon - This was a pain. Got a Sand Bear for a one-shot cannon, and decided to have 3 Berserkers whittle away. Had enough money for one Angel Ring which i gave to Bartz since he had the highest strength, then got lucky enough with the damage values that he eventually went down.

Archaeoavis - Not terrible. Frost sucks, but managed to keep 1 zerker and the BM alive. Another Sand Bear cannon for the final form.

Purobolos - Fuck these guys. Eventually settled on unequipping the weapons on my two Berserkers while my Beastmaster revived them when they got hit with Self-Destruct. Just had to finally get enough RNG where Self-Destruct didn't target my BM.

Titan - Easy peasy.

Manticore - Totally forgot this guy doesn't have Heavy. Death Sickle ftw.

Lv23, will probably get some Shield Dragon grinding in W2. Gotta get another Sand Bear for Gilgy on the Bridge though.

I'll be honest, World 2 should be a cakewalk except for ExDeath.

Literally no way to do the Fork Tower unless I want to rely on Mage Masher RNG though :(

I need some help with Omniscient. I have a Chemist that seems to be unable to do anything against him and reflected spells don't seem to kill him as his Regen/Cura outheals it. PC/Mobile version.

Is there anything I can do here?

If that's your only "Magic" job the easiest way is to hope he runs out of MP and then plinking him to death

Does anyone have a list of Blue Magic that is missable (or hard to get) by world? There's a ton of Blue Magic guides of course but it's hard to learn what I need to focus on trying to get by the end of Worlds 1 and 2 since it mainly lists out the enemies you get the spells from.

Also I remember when I did the run way back in 2012 there was a Google Doc with a lot of good info/tips for a FJF run... do we have anything like that this year?

Thanks~

Chemistry should be able to get the job done, with a bit of luck.

Take a Chemist with a reflect ring and a mage masher, and a KO'd Berserker otherwise prepared to smash things as effectively as possible.

Reflect ring should prevent Omni from doing much to the chemist leaving you free to do a little buffing. You want haste, double HP, and protect. And to be in the back row of course.

I believe mixing Berserk on Omni will still active his Return counter. So you need to use a Mage Masher and set silence, AND get another turn in before silence wears off and mix berserk. Should be doable with proper timing, doubly so if he slows himself.

Once he's berserked you want to keep yourself alive (he will hit hard) and mix Dark Sigh (eye drops+dragon fang), which I believe is unblockable unlike Dark Gas.

Now you should have it in the bag if you got this far. Revive and buff your berserker (HP and protect in case a hit gets through, haste for more turns) and let them have at it. Defense down mix could also help.

This list has them in the order you can learn them. But some have some limitations.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfil.../?id=524867626

Death Claw is only available in W1 from the Iron Claw boss. If you miss it there you have to wait until the start of W2. And you really don't want to wait to get that.

Magic Hammer is similar, but less essential. It is only available from Byblos, otherwise you have to wait until Drakenvale. Still a useful spell since MP drain is a viable strat against some bosses.

1000 Needles requires a beastmaster to get before W3.

L4 Graviga is available from Ghidras in W1. Missing it there means waiting until the Barrier Tower in W2.

Level 2 Old and Level 3 Flare can be learned at the Barrier Tower if you have a way to cast reflect and a Beastmaster. Otherwise you want to learn L2 Old from Magic Dragons in Exdeath's Castle, and L3 Flare from Tunnelers in the Pyramid (or Exdeath, but it's not worth it there).

That's weird, the counter must be hardcoded in for that fight. Berserk normally disables counters.

They aren't the best with it, but Mug avoids fleeing.

Hard to give too many recommendations for stealing since it tends to be job-dependent, but hi potions from Poltergeists in the Fire Ship dungeon are extremely useful.

In the water tower, you can steal early Mithril Knives from the Wyverns. Those help a ton against Garula. If you happen to get Dragoon in your team, there are a bunch of spears you can steal in World 1.

Silence does work. You could potentionally sit and wait for him to reflect silence on himself and attack him once with a high damaging attack. Problem is he has regen so it would take a some real patience to do that.
You can silence him with Mage Masher directly, but you can't reflect it off a teammate for some reason. Very weird fight.

Neo Exdeath down with some Chemist cheesing. Unfortunately the Berserkers had to take a volley of Meteor before Magic Lamp finished off the last part.

Yeah, they changed the Omniscient fight in the mobile version so that Berserk no longer disables the Return counter, so you need to take advantage of Silence/Stop, since that still works. Reflect Ring(s) and Bone Mail are a must, as is getting lucky with the Mage Masher, and/or Reflected Silences/Stops. Apparently, there's a strategy mentioned on the 4JF subreddit where you can give Omniscient an Ether while he is Silenced/Stopped, which reduces his MP from 30000 to 9999, a handy tip if you want to wait out Omniscient's MP pool (which would theoretically go even faster if followed up with %MP-draining moves like Lance while Omni is stopped/silenced), though I'm not 100% sure if it works on mobile.

Geos are much better in the mobile version, since they changed the spell-casting formula by removing the caster's level from the equation, which means that you can cast high-level spells (Tsunami, Cave-in, Bottomless Bog, etc.) out of the gate. There are still some situations where Gaia is functionally useless though, so the Geo can only act as a backup spell-caster in those cases.

I'm torn on whether or not it's worse than Dragoon. I think those are the two I'd rank at the absolute bottom. Monk and Red Mage are at least good through world 1, even if they drop off hard after that.

Ugh, had to grind all the way to level 17 to beat Gilgamesh.

Pulled off all victories with Bard/Dragoon/Ranger/Mystic Knight!

Omega cheesed with Romeo's Balad and Thundaga Blade / rapid shot.

Shinryu took a little grinding and brute force but Flare Blade / maxed Chicken Knife / rapid shot won in the end.

Neo Exdeath was easy between magic lamp, break blade, flare blade, rapid shot, Swift song, and hero's rime. Flare blade rapid shot was smashing him for 9999 x 4. Really satisfying and deadly combo.

Starting a pure chaos run. First job is geomancer. That's a fiesta first so I'm pretty excited to see what happens.

You had a couple options for Shinryu other than brute force. Zombie Bard with Apollo's Harp would kill it easily, just have someone else with Hermes Sandals use Hide. There's also a heavy armor strat you could have used with your Dragoon or Mystic Knight, but it's more complicated and requires some luck and some annoying grinding.

Freelancer to water is easy, make sure you visit Tycoon castle before heading to Walse Tower. Some useful equipment is hidden there.

Wasn't expecting duplicates in Popular. Summoner for fifth job. Still, I'll gladly take a second summoner over a Dragoon, lol.

Ingenious, never heard of that strategy. Apollo harp was a good 15,000 of the damage done before the bard got smashed.

Sounds kinda like how I got past W2 Exdeath. Zombie ranger with Hayate Bow...

I'm up to world 2 Exdeath, can someone remind me whether I need Level 3 Flare at all? Because I've just resetted twice after killing Exdeath, first time he used Level 3 Flare on my reflected team(IIRC, I can't learn if it reflected), second time he just wouldn't use it at all. I can't remember whether I hunted for it in my past fiesta runs just for completion sake, or if it was useful for a World 3 boss or something...

Team's Blue mage, Bard, Summoner, Monk, so I think Exdeath is my only option if the spell will be useful later on...

Lv. 3 Flare works great against the Gargoyles guarding each tablet entrance. It also works against Halicarnassus after a Dark Spark hit.

Hmm... Thanks, I'll give it one more try then, I think I can survive with just summons, Aeroga and Monk's brute strength.

Also just realised that I can skip Gilgamesh entirely by not opening the chest, provided that I don't have thief and heavy armour jobs. Though I assume I can't then look forward to him saving me against the save point Rift boss that look like a taller Frieza...

My two teams for the opening run this year are Monk, Berserker, Ninja, Earth Job remains and Knight, Berserker, Geomancer, Dancer.

KBGD is a fun one. I don't like running so having Geomancer with Knight definitely helps at lot during Exdeath's castle. Geomancer also appreciates Equip Shields/Armor because of how frail they are. Going to go Dancer with Equip Swords later on instead of the other option, which is run a bunch and use Equip Axes with the Chicken Knife.

Other team will be fun no matter what. Dual Wielding Axes is a jolly good time. Might grind out Flame rings with them because Kick makes it take only an hour or two.

Exdeath can be pretty easy to beat with Blue Mage alone. Lv. 2 Old works against him, eventually reducing his physical attacks to nothing. And if you're feeling lucky, you can set Old on him and spam Lv. 5 Death, praying that it'll hit at the moment when the Old status reduces his level to a 5 multiple. Aside from that, he's pretty vulnerable to Aeroga boosted by the Air Knife, Bard can start off with Mighty March to help with healing, then switch to Swift Song while Old does its trick on Exdeath.

Yikes. I might be wrong, but I think I remember in that case you can have a single Freelancer to make sure you can progress? Again, I can't quite remember where I saw that so I might be wrong, but that's a possible light at the end of the tunnel for you.

It doesn't require much luck to L5 death him. He is level 66 so if you have wait mode on all you need to do is make sure two characters with Blue have immediate back to back turns.

May be a little harder to time if the battle speed is really low. And if you changed the ATB to active then yeah, it's all luck.

That would be nice if true, breaking rods would make Liquid Flame so much easier. As it stands, currently grinding to about 20 before I try again (lvl 15 currently). I'll have tons of gil for a bit at least, so that's something

We've had people beat Byblos with quad thief, anything's possible! Probably best on pure chaos runs to use an emulator to grind though, they will be the hardest runs.

If you are willing to grind, you can buy fire rings and use your black magic to heal. Even if you don't grind, you can still get your hands on one or two.

Three singers. Two spamming Romeo's Ballad and the other on Hero's Rime. Berserker with Summon5 and a Rune Axe did dirty Berserker things to Omega, who did nothing.

Realized I forgot an important tool for beating Shinryu. Wendigo is a loser. Two singers on Hero's Rime and one on Swift Song. Berserker did more dirty Berserker things, like hitting 9999 for the killing blow. Granted, Wendigo can use confuse. If he had confused my Berserker it would have been kind of hilarious.

One thing I've noticed after playing two Berserker risk runs is that they are immune to Confuse. About the only good thing about them.

Nah, Berserker is a good job. Maybe not among the best but definitely good. Death Sickle trivializes a surprising number of bosses. And they can be absolute powerhouses at the end of the game with various abilities.

It was a key component of my level 15/16 run from last year.

Only a White Mage could handle this more easily.

Hopefully it submitted right, used the option on the site but it logged me out, so I think it submitted with no user attached. Resubmitted, hopefully that doesn't cause problems.

Exdeath went about as could be expected with this group. He picked on Faris a bit in round one, but it didn't matter much. Lenna buffed speed the entire time while Faris still inched up my levels between deaths. Berserker crushed and did most of the heavy lifting until HP got lowish.

Round 2 was easier. I think he did two normal attacks and a vacuum wave before the fight ended. All of which were easily absorbed by level-boosted Golem. Berserker actually made that part of the fight a little scary, throwing around thousands of damage like nothing while my only other damage is MT could have easily led to very unbalanced HP reduction. In the end the HP totals came in at under 10K difference, easily covered by two Syldra summons before he could attack in rage mode.

Think I'll do the annual standard normal run next, then take a break. May do some more runs later in July or August.

And the first job in my normal run is Thief. Happy I get to flee and not mash L&R for every battle and hope for the best.

Beat Liquid Flame with just Faris alive at lvl 20 with my quadzerkers. 5 wipes in total, so it could have been a lot worse.

Got Beastmaster for 3rd Job (now Berserker, Ninja, Beastmaster), so healing still eludes me, but at least I have some control again.
