Resistance Burning Skies |OT| Extinguishing the Flames of Vitality

Played two levels of the single player last night. I didn't really have any expectations and I think it's a really fun, competant shooter. It looks great and all of the touch controls haven't been intrusive or muddled in a way has been difficult to use. One thing about that though has been the Auger sheild. I have yet to make the shield work properly and I'm not sure why. Everything else has been fine but no matter how many times I slide and complete that indicator it just won't come up.

I have to agree about the sound design. The guns don't sound bad, but they sound horribly wrong. That is NOT the bullseye sound and some of the other guns and base sound effects don't seem to fit.

I'm surprised they couldn't just copy and paste the sounds from the previous games.

Fuck that.

This game doesn't get a pass as "a pretty good first effort." This is an established IP that's been around for years now. Sony SHOULD NOT have given this to a D-tier developer with presumably a meager budget.
Ready at Dawn, Sony Bend, or so many other fully capable/established studios should have been able to launch the first legit FPS on a handheld in a big way. Instead, Sony shat this out, not to mention probably killed off the franchise for good.

I may have had my disagreements with R3, but I still love the franchise and it deserved better than this.

It's not even that bad if you can forget about the terrible sound and "meh" graphics.

The first two Resistance games had pretty lackluster sound design as well, I thought, and R3 wasn't exactly top of the class either. The series has never had a particularly interesting soundscape and this one is the worst of all (at least in terms of sound effects).

Very true but at least the sound actually worked in those :p You get the Mauler later in the game and half the time it doesn't even make a firing noise

It's not Superman64 sure, but like I said, this game deserved better.

Oh yeah definitely, it could/should have been WAY better, but it still wasn't as bad as i expected from the reviews.

I just beat the campaign and I feel like trying multiplayer.

But it gets stuck at the user agreement screen. Music is still playing but nothing is responding. Anybody with the same problem?

EDIT - Hahaha, nevermind. Had to scroll through everything to proceed.

the shooting in this game is surprisingly good (like really good). compared to uncharted its miles ahead...uncharted shooting was hard without the gyro imo

Up to level 25 now in multiplayer. Still really digging it. has anyone actually survived as a human in Survivor (?) mode for the whole time limit? The most I've survived was 4 minutes. The small levels make it hard!

I like the "infecting" thing via Near. Pretty cool

I haven't gotten anything from near for Resistance yet, but every once in a while I'll get an infection after a match. Right now I'm on a 3x infection that lasts for 4 hours.

BTW, I believe the time for the infections is IN GAME and not realtime.

So I've reached the final mission and now I want to know what happened to the entire level that was shown during the games initial gamescom reveal.

It's clearly the Ellis Island mission but it's nowhere to be seen. What's really disappointing is the fact that the demo had all sorts of cool stuff going on like capital ships and VTOLs flying through the sky which is missing from the final game. It even made me remember the gif I made way back when the vita was announced.

That's not in the game either.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's DLC.

The TGS demo is also not in the game, I think.

edit: nm, the TGS demo I was thinking of is the last 2 minutes of that video.

really liking sp mode, Whoever rated it a 2/10 is a fucking trolling idiot.

Well did you beat it yet? The last level is one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a campaign. The SP was tolerable but the last level left such a bad taste in my mouth I hated everything about the sp.

Despite vowing not to pay SCEE £40 for this (after hearing such mixed views) I bought it anyway. Looking forward to seeing what it has to offer, I am desperate for a decent FPS on the vita and I think they know that.

I hate the thought of mobile games being compared to proper console games but it's interesting that NOVA 3 launched today on Android for £5, so I am going to buy that too and play it on my Tablet S with Dualshock and compare, I doubt Resistance will be 8x better value. From what people are saying if it was on PS3 it would be seen as a very average game.

Considering Killzone 2 cost $200m to make and cost the same, maybe £25 would be more suitable?

Played the demo. Like in R1, it feels mediocre and generic to me. Poor story, awful character design and maybe the worst visuals I saw in Vita after Shinobido 2.

But I think it proves that Vita is the first portable system ever where you can play a FPS properly. And I love the weapons and how they integrated the touchscreen in the gameplay. Kudos for them regarding controls.

Well, it's official.
Much like how Resistance 1 killed my first PS3; Burning Skies seems to successfully following in his older brother's footsteps.
Vita am dead, and according to the surprisingly pleasant SCEA customer service lady-slash-Vita specialist, she's "99% sure" that the Vita needs to be sent in for servicing.
So they'll be sending me a prepaid box in 3-5 business days, and here's to hoping that I get my Vita back before Gravity Dash hits.

*le sigh*

Cart or dd? Not that it matters.

Cart, but it doesn't matter because it isn't really the game's fault that the Vita's battery up and died. At least, we think it's the battery. It's definitely not the charger.
Likewise, it wasn't really R1 that caused my PS3's lens/laser to fail, turning it into a PSN-only device until I got it repaired.

It's just a funny, unhappy coincidence. At least the PS3 had the decently to last me 6 months before croaking! Haha.

OK I have now spent a few hours on the game, haven't touched the campaign yet only played the multiplayer and I must say despite my scepticism about the price.... I love it.

I honestly forget I was on a handheld, there was a point where I needed a piss and the next game was about to start, I was in a dilemna until I remembered I could take the game into the bog with me :)

I planned to play for an hour but 3 hours later and I have had to force myself off. I still think the price might be a bit steep, but it is fun online and once in a game it runs flawlessly online, even with my shit connection.

If nothing else it proves how the vita will be a killer system if they get CoD or Killzone on there before Xmas. I personally don't care too much for CoD nowadays but I can imagine a lot of people buying a Vita if they could level up on CoD if the saves were shared

Y'know, my friend said the exact same thing. I think the game will surprise most people.

So I finished the game and as usual the story starts to get interesting right at the end and then cue those credits. At least it was more satisfying then R3's ending. But now the question becomes once again will I get the sequel I as a fan deserve?

Played the demo. It was alright, but the audio is terrible and the graphics are sub HD. Controls seem to have a little lag as well, although it might just be me not used to the Vita sticks for shooters.

Whats up with the Youtube quality FMVs? Disgraceful.

Youtube quality? Maybe Youtube from 2006 lol.

I tried. I really really did. I *wanted* to like the game. But I couldn't justify $40 for it. Had to return it. I just needed better sound, and more polish. It should have just been a fall release.

What is the secret to beating the 2nd level boss. jeez I think I'm on my 15th restart.

From what I remember:

1) the things that hatch and spit something at you should be killed even before they hatch. Shoot them as soon as they appear.

2) The things that follow you to attack are best ignored. Just run from them instead of shooting.

3) Shoot the weak spot on the boss for massive damage.

4) Profit!

The demo was pretty solid except for the bland level design and average AI, oh and the visible seams between some of the polygons is just sloppy!

So I bought it for AUD $49 mainly for the multiplayer.

I finished the game today. It took me 3 days, so it had a decent length to it (i guess it can be finished in one day, but i didnt want to rush it, and my neck gets too much pain if i have to play for hours and hours at one time).

In my opinion, it is a fairly good game. I enjoyed it. I found the story to be interesting enough, the weapon variety is good, and the controls feels great. The controls makes me very optimistic that a Call of Duty game will work just fine on the Vita :)

The sound is somewhat weak (some weapons reminded me a bit of a popcorn machine hehe), but i dont know if that is mainly because of the game's audio itself or that the Vita's speakers arent exactly super powerful (it is afterall a handheld device), or maybe a mix of both things.

The multiplayer is also entertaining, but maybe a bit too barebone. Many only play deathmatch and team deathmatch in FPS in general, so that is fine enough, but i miss some more stats unlock stuff (like, get X amount of kills with said weapon).

Getting the platinum trophy is really easy. After my first playthrough, i was only missing one trophy. I didnt check the trophy list at all before i finished the game, so i wasnt trying to do anything specfic in the game to get the trophies.

Is there any reason to unlock all the intels by the way?

I played the demo last night and was pleasantly surprised.

For the very first FPS release on this hardware I am very optimistic that with some decent developers supporting it we could see some great titles on the Vita in the future.

I have to agree with folks on the sound though, it really is very sub-standard and is actually very noticeable - not something I'd normally pick up on either.

How do you platinum this on one single player playthrough?

The executioner/impaler trophyt seems impossible to do on one playthrough considering there isn't enough of them.

I played the game through headphones last night for the first time, and my goodness, the sound is ever more noticeably bad! Everything is so muffled and terrible sounding. I'd love to know what happened there.

Realoading/restarting sections with multiple mobs propably. I just did a NG+ to get the trophy.

Also there is chapter select and one chapter towards the end of the game is titled "impalers" or something to that effect.
