Latter sounds like otherkin

Ain't otherkin like part of the extreme end of the furry spectrum where they really REALLY identify, feeling like they are mistakenly born into the wrong species? Yes. Says I. xD The other end is you just like seeing cartoon animals cuz animals are cute or Bugs Bunny is hilarious.

Being "furry," to me, means having an interest in anthropomorphic animals. This can range from just liking furry art (normal or porn), to actually dressing up in fursuits, and everywhere in between. It's not just about sex (it doesn't HAVE to be sexual at all), and you don't need to have a fursona or a fursuit to be a furry.

The 'otherkin' thing is a neo-pagan crossover that some people brought to the furry scene. There's a whole lot of animal totemism and related stuff in the furry fandom that predated the otherkin business.

I was told by a nice neo-pagan lady some years ago that the term didn't originally have anything to do with "people being animals". It was related to pagans and fae folk lore. The term was appropriated somehow by spiritual reincarnationists.

I do think it's completely natural that things like totemism and 'identity' philosophies would manifest in parts of the furry scene, because it is about animal-human connections.

Being a furry means enjoying the vast amounts of anthro art along with all the other aspects of the word.
yay i'm back
So how many more answers to the question are you going to wait for chuck?

Still without luck
As many as people are willing to give!

Also the OP still needs some work so people have a little bit before the deadline if they're still thinking about it or whatever.

So I guess I should solicit a little more specific help. We're looking for anthropomorphic representation in popular media in the new thread's OP. Games, movies, TV, books, comics, etc. We're going to be doing a few on our own, but we'd also like it if anyone would be willing to do a little write up for something they're into and would like to share. It doesn't have to be super popular either. Indie stuff is cool too!

What we're looking for:
- 1 paragraph write up explaining the game or book or whatever. Just explain what it is and how anthropomorphism is used.
- 2 or 3 screenshots if applicable (16:9 preferred)

Make it short and sweet because we're looking to put in quite a few! Just send me a PM and it will most likely be in the new OP! Thanks!

edit: I should say ask me if it's being done by someone else first in the PM, before you do the work. And just so no one else gets confused, I got Sly Cooper and Regular Show!

Looks like someone's playing Kemo Coliseum!

So you mean furries from comics, etc.? Games is kinda hard since the ones I'd like to reference are Japan-only :(

Japan only is okay! We'd just like it varied is all. There's room for Morenatsu if you'd like to write it up. :3

Hey, guys, I have something to ask.

I can't seem to stop wanting to pretend that I'm some kind of half-Haxorus or something. I'm starting to feel embarrassed.

What should I do about it? Heck, sometimes, I don't feel comfortable even though I cam, and do have a lot of fun in that.

Here's a quickie for me.

Comics

I doubt nothing can represent comics any better than Blacksad. Written and drawn by Spanish authors Juan Díaz Canales (writer) and Juanjo Guarnido (artist) but published in France by publisher Dargaud, it is a noir graphic novel starring a black cat private investigator named Blacksad (who uses various pseudo-first names, the most common being John) and, since the second book, his weasel sidekick Weekly. It has (as of this writing) four books, each having their own stories and are generally not in chronological order. It's set in an anthropomorphic world set roughly in the 50's-60's, and despite starring animals, it is a violent and mature series not intended for young readers. It has sex, murder, violence, and a chilling tale. The use of anthropomorphic animals is mostly for themes, and the stories play it well. It is a great series worth reading, especially when all four have been brought over by Dark Horse comics (first three being in a single collected book, while the fourth volume being a stand-alone).

Here's my submission for the OT stuff.

Altered Beast
Originally released as an arcade title, Altered Beast follows a warrior from Ancient Greece as he battles undead hordes and an evil demon god. But let's get on to the game!
The uninitiated of you are probably saying, "Hey, that's just a normal dude! Where does the anthro come in?" Well be quiet! While he might look like a normal dude but he is most certainly not. When you defeat certain wolf enemies, differentiated by their colour palette, they will drop orbs. And when you pick up an orb you get a sudden muscle boost, almost like a super effective greek steroid! "He's still not anthro though!" you say. Well I'm getting to it! As you continue he continues to build muscle until the third pill when suddenly...
BAM! WOLFMAN!
You are now a super powerful wolfman who is strong enough to take on the evil demon god! Then after you defeat his form he saps your powers and you must regain them in the next level, but this time you become a dragonman! This continues until the final boss with different beastmen. Altered Beast isn't a particularly fun game these days. It was a game designed to steal quarters and the combat is painfully simple. But it's cool to see the anthro style in gaming even back then.

SHORT VERSION

Originally released as an arcade title, it was developed and published by SEGA and ported to a large number of systems over the past few decades. It also received a Gameboy Advance sequel in 2002 and a PS2 3D spiritual successor in 2005. The original Altered Beast follows a warrior from Ancient Greece as he battles undead hordes and an evil demon god. As he progresses through the game he is transformed into various anthropomorphic beast men. The character and enemy designs are unique and carry a lot of charm, making up for its archaic gameplay. A definite recommend for those who want a retro digital take on the anthro style.

Furry-GAF: Scalies are fine too?

FurryGAF |OT| Why I Otter!

FurryGAF [OT] "They should have sent a veterinarian."

"FurryGAF |OT| Awaken your Fursona!"

anybody else want to try/change/add to what's already here?
Your too in love with that image D-Pad.
edit: or none is an option too I guess...

I like this one as the best.. Usually I'd prefer a pun or something but I think in this case, we want to be taken more seriously.

I don't know, furry jargon like "fursona" always felt silly/hard to take seriously to me.

"They should have sent a veterinarian" seems like the best one in my opinion.

Tend to agree here, although I'd suggest one of my own if I could actually come up with anything.

What is "being taken seriously"? Dunno what the next furry thread would attract other than furries. I doubt furries need GAF to legitimize their interest in the art, or anything like that.

I don't think anyone said being taken seriously. We just want a new thread that isn't a joke for 20 pages and that will attract more people is all. Also to clear up confusion some people may have right in the OP.

Whoops, should've quoted Bel specifically. Either way, I like terrible puns for titles the most. Mentioning scalies is always a bonus.

"Don't use the phrase 'a thread from trolls for trolls' to describe any thread, especially one that happens to have a mod in it, and especially if it's in defense of Xbox One's policies after E3."

I think that's concise enough for the FAQ
