Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.

Neogaf's Expendable:

Holy shit, this movie. I love films where you have NO idea what is going to happen in the very next frame and this is one of them for the most part. Once GAF sees it, they are going to completely lose their shit. I honestly don't want to spoil anything about it. Just see it ASAP when it comes out in April.

Directed and written by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Alias, Buffy) and Joss Whedon.

Starring: Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

Also noteworthy: Cinematography by Peter Deming (The Scream series, Drag Me to Hell) and a score by David Julyan. (the Descent, Insomnia)

The word is, avoid ANYTHING media related for the film before seeing it - so look up videos and such at your own risk.

TV trailer ruined it for me already. I hate when ads give too much away.

Pretty sure the trailers spoiled it for me, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. I'm beyond excited for this.

I read something quite a while back that I brushed off until I saw a commercial and such that might have supported it. :/

Excited as fuck regardless. Amy Acker on the bigscreen!

If you think you were spoiled by the trailers, PM me exactly what you think.

I will read the message but not reply.

I am curious.

Had tix tonight...but wife was too scared to go.

Damnit.

DAMNIT.

Saw American Reunion, though. THOSE TITS WERE UNREAL. I'm in love.

That too. I also am pretty stoked for Anna Hutchinson and Fran Kranz. I hope this does well.

Can't overstate how important it is to avoid the trailers for this movie. They really do ruin a big part of it. (And I haven't even seen it yet!)

Oh and of course Fran. He's certainly inserted himself well amongst the Whedon crew, eh. Now if Enver and Dichen could do the same...

Dichen's on a Shawn Ryan show, she's fine.

Enver has just had a series of missteps with his USA pilot falling through, but everyone knows he's insanely talented. He just has to find the right project. And he has a bit in the Avengers.

I'm psyched for Dichen's show.

Enver needs to be on my TV, like right now. Too bad his pilot didn't get picked up, it sounded interesting.

93???????!!!!!

I love horror movies, good and bad (except for Hills Have Eyes 2, that shit wasn't even worth finishing) so I'll probably see it sooner or later.

I really hope Last Resort is ordered to series.

Anyways, here's an early impression from Expendable on the film:

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
I haven't heard anything about this and reading this I don't want to watch any trailers. Just one question, is it more of a suspense horror or torture porn? Love the former, hate that latter.

Considering Whedon's contempt for the torture porn genre, I think it's safe to say it won't be geared in that direction.

From what I've heard, the trailer doesn't actually spoil anything big.

Will watch as soon as it comes out as a big horror junkie.

Holy shit, YES!

Since I think this is a very spoilerable movie, I'm just going to say that this will probably be the best movie that has Joss Whedon's name on it in 2012.

Those are some big words. With all of the great buzz this is getting I'll really have to get to the theater this weekend.

12th July in Australia? Ugh. If it's a hit, I'm sure i'll somehow get it spoiled for myself by then.

That said, i'm looking forward to it immensely.

I’m confused by the “Funniest horror”, “frightfully hilarious”, “cool” etc quotes in the movie poster. I guess it’s a mix of comedy and horror rather than a “serious” horror movie?

The hype surrounding this movie has really drawn me in. I still know nothing about it and I'm pretty excited to see it.

TV spots sure seemed like they spoiled something. Some elements and locations that seem like they'd come from a different movie.

Is this the one with Chris Hemsworth in it?

I was thinking of risking my time with this movie just to indulge.

The trailers ruined the big twist.

Plus if we're sticking with meta-horror, I heard it's not as good as Tucker and Dale vs Evil with the characters being bland, so I'll rent it later.

Worst trailers ever, need to bonk Joss Whedon on the head for allowing that shit.

OP title is correct.

Trailers did NOT ruin the "big twist," they merely gave you some info you could guess with. A lot of the reveals in the trailer happen very early into the film. From the opening scene you can tell this is far, far away from your standard horror movie.

I can't wait to discuss this one.

Yep, he is in it!

Wow. Hopefully its a surprising treat like Rise of the Planet of the Apes was.

It's much better than that average film.

There are gory parts, but they never revel in. A good portion of the film is like your classic 80s slasher, but so much more.

There are lots of funny bits, but I'd say it is more crowdpleasing/fun than flat-out funny. Certainly not serious though.

Plan on seeing it this weekend, really looking forward to it. Seems like it has good potential to be a great horror flick, which we don't have much of these days.

Anyone have a link to articles/spoilers of the movie/ending? I'm one of those people that read stuff before I go see it in case it's one of those movies that go "WTF just happened?" when I see it, which is more than likely what this movie is going to be.

If anyone does, feel free to PM me. I look forward to seeing it Friday/Saturday night :D

Ditto. I heard it on a podcast that the trailer only gives away the first 5 minutes of the movie, and it is suppose to be quite hilarious.

Wow, this is getting some STELLAR reviews. As usual, though, GAF has done a better job of bringing this movie above the noise to my attention than its actual ad campaign.

Craven, who directed influential horror movies as well as self-referential “meta” horror movies (such as New Nightmare and Scream), gave a bloody thumbs up for Cabin.
“I thought it had a fun, meta feel and a lot of quotes to films of mine and my friends. But it also went off in its own direction,” he observed.
He added: “It’s not the last horror movie but it may be the last horror film of this kind. And that’s good. It will challenge people to do something totally different."
