Favorite Metroid Track

Metroid's been getting a lot of love recently but one thing I feel the series isn't praised enough for is its soundtrack. The vibe of Metroid can be lonely, up beat, action packed or just plain eerie thanks to its mix of solid art direction and outstanding musical score, but which pieces stood out most to you?

My pick goes to the Title Screen of Metroid Zero Mission. Like most of the game, this is a rearrangement of the NES track but I love how they made the more lonely segment the central piece rather than the eerie notes heard in the original and Super Metroid's title screen. It's all still there but they flipped the dominance around.

This track reflects what the Metroid franchise is all about to me. It's lonely yet heroic. More than any other piece in Metroid this track really makes me relate to Samus and I often hang on the Zero Mission title screen just to listen to it.

Interestingly Metroid 2: Return of Samus had a very small OST so in just a few short months we'll have a brand new Metroid soundtrack to gawk over when Samus Returns releases. Until then, what's your favourite track in the Metroid series?

Bonus: This fan made orchestration is also wonderful:

1. Metroid 1 Intro and Title screen - This theme means so much to me. It takes me back to my childhood, happier memories of my dad.

2. Super Metroid Ridley boss music. Nuff said

3. Metroid Prime 1 Intro screen. It's so different yet familiar to Metroid.

4. Metroid Fusion Opening Scene. I LOVE Fusion. It's got it's haters but I love the direction it seemed to be taking the series that Nintendo seems intent on ignoring.

5a. Metroid 1 Escape - How could I not? Even in this basic MIDI it gets the blood pumping.

5b. Metroid 1 Ending and Credits - I really consider this and the escape music as 1 long theme. It managers to be triumphant, melancholy and sort of forward looking? all at once.

6. Super Metroid Credits - Same sentiment for the original credits theme.

And there's things I left off of my list that could still make best VG music of all time.

Such a wonderful series. STILL my favorite in all of gaming.

Metroid Prime 1 is the only game I have played, in which I love every single track of the OST. Most memorable though, would probably be Phendrana Drifts, Magmoor Caverns, Tallon IV Overworld Part 1 and 2.

Brinstar and Lower Norfair are my favorites. I still remember leaving the SNES on pause as a kid just to let those tracks rock.

Kraid's Lair is another favorite. I'm playing through Metroid 2 right now and really enjoy Surface of SR388.

Looking forward to hear favorites from the Metroid games that I haven't played.

All of the classics and obvious picks will be mentioned so I'll post something people might not think of too often.

The credits theme for Metroid: Zero Mission.

The Shinesparkers also made an incredible orchestral suite combining Zero Mission's credits theme with some of the most iconic Metroid music in the series.

Zero Mission might have my favourite soundtrack of the entire series. The credits theme feels so triumphant.

As already stated, Lower Maridia sounds incredibly eerie yet really sad. I hate it for the dreadful feelings it evokes in me.

l'll go with Maridia. lt's probably my favorite video game tune ever. lt's both eerie and beautiful and perfectly evokes deep still waters filled with blind creatures lurking in the dark.

There's so many great tunes though. Besides the popular choices some underrated gems for me are Corruption's credits theme, lng Emperor's second phase, Chozo Artifact Temple and U-mos Account. Chozo Temple is especially amazing and deserves to be cited alongside Phendrana's Drifts and Sunken Frigate as one of Prime's best themes. There's so much going on in the track.

I don't think the main overworld theme from Metroid 2 gets enough love. Granted, that game isn't known for its soundtrack but the lead melody immediately got stuck in my head the first moment I heard it.

And then of course there's Phendrana Drifts, Elysia and the Red Soil region of Brinstar that deserve special mention.

I always loved how dramatic Prime 2's title felt with the drop out and heartbeat before the main riff and callback to the OG title theme:

And Brinstair Overgrowth theme:

I always feel like this is where Super Metroid really gets going.

Metroid Prime 2 Submerged Temple

anyone knows if this theme appears in Super Metroid?? I forgot :/

For me, it's a three-way toss-up between Brinstar (Overgrowth) from Super, Phendrana Drifts from Prime, and Kraid's Lair from Zero Mission.
