Oh wow, Ni No Kuni peaked in Sweden too? Did not expect that one. Hell I didn't even expect to see it top in multiple countries.

So much for being a complete bomba.

I'm in the UK, and I don't think the Hitman Sales are going to be great at retail.

Every shop is selling it at more than the digital version on PSN.

HMV are £9.99 more than the digital version.
GAME are £7.99.

NnK just shows that JRPG's can sell if you actually market them. Most of them just seem to be released without publishers doing anything to promote them.

How much did it sell?

Well, it's number 1 on the charts that actually take it into account, so it seems to be doing pretty well. Certainly better than ToGf did, which was a game that NAMCO just dropped without promoting it much at all. That game debuted at #18 in Sweden when it was released while NnK debuted at #1.

For a second I thought it was -810k and -545k and I was like "holy shit". Dumb moment.

3DS+NDS+PSV+PSP (or all portable sales) = 310k
Physical PC (I mean, physical as in Steam and company are not included) = 228k.

Thanks for the update!

Also, very surprised at Ni no Kuni performance, even if it means like 10k or less being no. 1 in some places.

Hitman was discounted to all hell just after xmas. Was as low as £14.99 at one point.

Ni no kuni wouldve sold even more if it wasnt for the lack of software, people have been going nuts trying to find it, there still isnt one in my town sold out every shop i had to wait till the banned site got stock in.

Those Wii U software numbers...

Yikes

70% of the software decline is Wii/DS everything is down a bit but those two are the big ones. Will be interesting to see if the next wave of systems really does anything.

jvm

Gamasutra.
The thing that really hits home for me is that the decline in 3DS software units was bigger than growth from Wii U software units. So the Wii U isn't even making up for a loss on the 3DS, much less the Wii and NDS.

I feel kind of ill.

In a way, I think the Wii U is a victim of generational fatigue - it's essentially 7 years lat to the party and isn't offering anything noticeably better than the PS360.

The interesting thing will be whether more new platforms can stem this tide.

Happy for Ni No Kuni, finally a real game in the top.

Ignoring that stupidity, does anyone know how much it actually sold?

Also, they sure don't enjoy handhelds in the UK do they?

We'll know in a year if people are just tired of this gen or if they're just tired of gaming. My money is on the former. Nintendo could have offered some powerful tech and a sleek new Metroid or Zelda, and they chose to go lo-fi with 2D Mario and a party game. Kinda hard to gauge the market based on that since it's pretty much doing that poorly in every region.

Did Namco Bandai even do any promotion? IIRC, the only promotion came from word-of-mouth of fans who were excited about the Wizard Edition and the subsequent shenanigans.

Has to be word of mouth. I can't recall seeing any marketing at all.

I'd love to know how much Ni No Kuni sold digitally across the US and Europe. Is it the highest-profile simultaneous retail/PSN launch so far?

For amount of hype, I think it is. DMC was also day 1 I think but that didn't have the same level of demand judging by that chart.

Vita shifting more units than the Wii-U was suspected but it's still surprising to see confirmation.

I wasn't aware that those games all had day 1 PSN releases (I don't really follow console releases of PC games :p). Seems to be far more widespread than I had thought.

I'm under the impression that there has been too much talk about it, but it seems to be more and more common to see a day 1 PSN release. Devil May Cry and Dead Space 3 are also available on PSN right now for example.

NI NO KUNI! Great to see this game take top spot. I was fearing it wouldn't have such a great launch being it a late release that got delayed.

The correct week 5 in sweden is out now:

2.FIFA 13 (PS3)

20.Battlefield 3 (PC)

http://www.gfkhitlist.com/game.aspx
(not up on the site yet though, so I guess it and the other nordic lists will be up soon.)

And yay for Ni No Kuni, gj homeland! :D
Hmm the website has updated sweden week 5 and it looks like this:

1.WORLD OF WARCRAFT GAME CARD (60-DAY PRE PAID GAMECARD) (PC)
2.NI NO KUNI WRATH OF THE WHITE WITCH WIZARDS ED (PS3)
3.NI NO KUNI WRATH OF THE WHITE WITCH (PS3)
4.FIFA 13 (PS3)
5.FIFA 13 (360)
6.PLAYSTATION NETWORK VOUCHER 200 SEK (PS3)
7.SONY ONLINE: GAMETIME CARD (PC)
8.FAR CRY 3 (PS3)
9.NHL 13 (PS3)

18.NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 (3DS)
19.JUST DANCE 4 (Wii)
20.FAR CRY 3 (PC)
http://www.gfkhitlist.com/game.aspx

Dunno how Ni No Kuni normal version seems to be listed 2 times.

Based on jvm's figures:

So I did a few calculations with these figures.

Total sales Jan 2012 - 2778
Total sales Jan 2013 - 2111

Market decrease of 26%

Now let's look at the detail.

Nintendo vs non-Nintendo:

Total Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2012 - 999k
Total non-Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2012 - 1779k

Total Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2013 - 467k
Total non-Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2013 - 1644k

Nintendo YoY decrease - 53.3%
Non-Nintendo YoY decrease - 7.6%
Non-Nintendo YoY decrease consoles only - 3.5%

So, is it the UK market that's dead, or Nintendo that's dead in the UK?

I hope this myth that gaming is dead in the UK ceases to exist, it's Nintendo that are in serious decline. A new generation of consoles from Sony and MS would more than fix the current problems for their own decline.

It doesn't fit with the numbers we got from Nintendo anyway. Problem is, people are being overly defensive of Nintendo and are quick to write off the UK as crashing or as an anomaly in the bigger picture.

It takes too long to explain the real situation though... or at least longer than people will pay attention for.

Has to be word of mouth. I can't recall seeing any marketing at all.

Eurogamer had it on their adverts for a while. A couple of adverts in Neo IIRC (anime/manga print magazine in the UK). Banner placement on the Playstation Store (Only saw the web version though).

Not exactly "mass public" marketing but it was there :)
