Forget exclusives, the Xbox One has trouble getting MULTIPLATFORM games

Japanese multiplatform games in particular. I'm not talking about stuff like Street Fighter 5 where Sony invested money in the game. I'm talking about all the Japanese games that could come to the Xbox, but the publishers don't bother and often just make a PC version instead. If a Japanese franchise isn't Resident Evil/Final Fantasy/Dark Souls/Tekken, it's probably not coming to Xbox.

This list is just from the top of my head, so I'm probably forgetting something.
Nier: Automata
Guilty Gear Xrd
Persona 5
Dragon Quest Heroes/XI
Earth Defense Force 5
Dynasty Warriors series
Samurai Warriors series
King of Fighters XIV (Sony Money)
Ace Combat 7
Yakuza series

-All these games are on PS4.
-Most are on PC.
-All of these IPs have been on the Xbox 360 except DQ and Yakuza.
-None of these games are published by Sony.

From everything I've heard it is MUCH easier to port a PS4/PC game to Xbox One than it was to make PS3/360 ports. The Xbox 360 used to get these games even though it sold like shit in Japan. Obviously the 360 had a larger market share, so publishers bothered to make Xbox ports. Plus Microsoft used to throw money at companies like Namco to get exclusives.

We've got a lot of threads talking about what exclusives Microsoft needs to make or buy, but I just want to say that Microsoft should focus attention on making sure that as many third-party games come to the system as possible. Market share is a big factor, no doubt, but if it takes throwing money/resources/support at companies to ensure that they get ports too, they should be doing that.

The list of PS4 games that are console exclusive by default, and not because Sony made some business deal, keeps growing. I won't be shocked if soon we see a bunch of multiplatform game that come to Switch,PS4, and PC but leave out Xbox. It just feels like if the game isn't a guaranteed million selling blockbuster, Microsoft doesn't give a shit if it comes to their system anymore. Want to please your customers, Microsoft? Stop sitting idly by while your competitors get "de facto" exclusives.

The more intriguing thing is most went to PC instead of Xbox, they have to care if they see sales potential but it just isn't there.

Microsoft does not seem to care to go through the effort of courting Japanese publishers, and if they do, they want their more western output.

Nothing much to really say about it - a few games is just a natural consequence of being dead in Japan, more than that seems to speak to an ideology. I can understand not getting exclusives, as that's such a hard sell with any publisher that wants to sell anything in Japan, but the total lack of mutiplatform versions just says to me they don't care to try.

They're not knocking on Koei Tecmo's door to offer to help with a Ni-Oh port because they seemingly don't care if they get a Ni-Oh port, which to me seems ridiculous.

Literally 3 people on Xbox would buy them

Most of my Xbox friends look at any Japanese game and just assume its some tentacle porn thing. That's why Japanese devs don't care

In other news, water is wet.

Aside from a brief period of time and couple dalliances in the 360 era, I dont think anyone is buying an MS console for Japanese titles.

The XB1 is an amazing media center with some exclusives and servicable ports of western multiplats.

I started with one 2 years ago, but finally got a PS4 because there was finally a game I really cared about, but it took awhile.

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
You made some mistakes ,
For example:
Sony didn't pay a cent for Nier/DQH2
But they did pay the DQB/KOF/Yakuza for exclusive deals

And OP, your avatar series may become PS4 exclusives too.

If you want japanese games, pick up a PS4, Xbox One has many weaknesses, the japanese catalog is one of them.

Im really happy with my Xbox One, but I know that it aint getting half of Square Enix"s titles

Microsoft just gave up with the japanese market after they put in a good effort with the 360, probably wasn't worth it after stuff like Blue dragon and lost Odyssey didn't become mega hits. So why bother courting and spending on japanese devs when their bread and butter is western games anyway? RIP scalebound you were probably the last japanese xbox exclusive we'll see for a long time.

I think in some cases you had a more split market for the 360 outside of Japan (I doubt Nier was grotesquely lopsided in favor of PS3 outside of Japan) and on Xbox and early in the 360 days they probably DID try to court for some ports, but they also kind of screwed up and killed the angle they could've had during the prior two generations where the Xbox version was probably the better one, so even if their fanbase owns both consoles there's nearly no chance they'll go Xbox over PS. I know I wouldn't anyway, I half forget XB1 versions even exist of some games like RE7.

i wouldnt call this a "problem" on MS's part. aside from maybe persona 5 i dont see how anything could move the needle much

wait until they start getting cut out of final fantasy, dark souls, ect to raise alarm

I honestly doubt the FF VII Remake is going to come out on Xbox One. At best it'll be on PC or the Switch as well.

Do Japanese games even sell well on Xbox these days? I hardly ever see anyone on my large friends list playing anything Japanese outside of the occasional person playing Xenoverse or FFXV.

It probably has more to do with why bother releasing those kind of game on X1 which is almost non existent in Japan. Scalebound cancellation most likely made it all worst.

Is there a split for FFXV yet?

It's not that one game is going to move the needle. It's when dozens and dozens are just not appearing on the platform, people factor that into their console buying decision.

I always found it interesting that Japanese devs has more faith in PC gamers than XBOX gamers, despite neither platform being at all popular in Japan.

Something must have gone terribly wrong somewhere.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
This situation has been going on for a drcade. It just reflects the taste of the Xbox audience. If your taste is different but a different console.

PS: I am currently considering a second console for Japanese exclusives. I think it will be a Switch.

MS invested pretty heavily in Japan in the early 360 days and it did absolutely nothing so they gave up. Which is too bad for the Xbox One owners who enjoy Japanese games but there really isn't a point for MS to spend money to get these games.

Well uh, you have Valkyria Revolution to look forward to on Xbone in the realm of Japanese games ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still salty that it's coming to Xbone but not PC.

No one is going to buy a xbone because neir is on it.
Sure, but more than enough Xbox owners would buy Neir to justify the costs of porting the game.
the 360 didn't have a large marketshare because of Japanese games lol
You misunderstand. I'm not saying that getting these games will make Xbox One a huge success. I'm saying MS needs to make an effort to get games that the Xbox 360 would have gotten simply because of market share. I believe these games would sell enough to justify ports, and it would have a net effect of making the platform look healthy/desirable.

The upcoming resurgence of Persona and DQ are finally what got me to go for a PS4. Up until recently, I've had trouble finding anything that was a system seller for me.

Those aren't multiplatform games. Those are exclusives...for PS4.

Not for long...

I'd bet it has something to do with retailing discs and console royalties.

PC doesn't have that.

This is the problem with so many of these "Whats wrong with Xbox" threads. They all assume Xbox owners care about the same type of games they care about. Nothing in your list interest me. The fact that Scalebound is canceled, while disappointing, didn't bother me. I have over 100 game on my XB1 that I have yet to even push the "A" button to start up. I like my FH3, Halo, GOW4, EA Access, and GwG. I'm good.
