Halo |OT 25| Did you think me defeated?!"

Lol I used to post more frequently a few years ago. Always have love for HaloGAF <3
That was back when I was a big dick. Well I guess I sort of still am - related to Elzar somehow I think. But I feel bad that I was hostile to so many good gaffers and Bungie folk.
That's what I was arguing for, having a mix between the Armory and the REQs, where you can buy armors and weapons using credits you earned while playing, but you can also buy REQs Pack at a lower price and hope to get the thing you want if the RNG is with you, while having specific armors only available through Challenges or the Armory itself.

Glad I'm not the only one seeing a mix between both is possible.

I think a blend of the Reach armory with the REQ system seems like it strikes a decent balance. You can pay a large amount of RP upfront if you want specific items, or you can put your RP into packs and unlock rarer items much more cheaply if the RNG gods shine upon you.

That doesn't preclude certain armor being challenge-specific, like Halo 5's, either.
These are all really good ideas
Really sounds like halo 6 isn't a 2018 title, doesn't it. 343, take all the time you need to blow out socks off - but I'm in the mean time, give us some reasons to continue to play h5 (high quality maps)
I know I should want 343 to take all the time they can to make the next main Halo game, but the idea of it not coming out in 2018 has me super depressed. If they could add some new stuff to the current game I'd be appeased though. New maps would be amazing.

Some thoughts on Halo 6's release:
 • Halo 6 can be revealed/released in the same year. Benefit of that would be to maintain hype throughout that period, instead of letting it die down and having to build it up again.
 • The beta. They've said every Halo game will receive a beta going forward, so my question is if it will be a year from launch or closer to launch? A beta far from launch allows 343 more time to take criticisms into consideration, whereas a beta closer to launch wouldn't allow for that, but could help build with momentum going into launch.
 • If we get a 2019 release, that would make 4 years since Halo 5. For better or worse, expectations would skyrocket, so there would be serious pressure on 343 to deliver. But to be fair, that pressure is already there lol, although an extra year does increase it.

I'd guess 343 is much more confident with their multiplayer development now than when Halo 5 was in development. They must have learned a lot from the successes of H5 mp. This is why I don't see a year-before-release beta necessary anymore, 4-6 months should be enough. So beta in the spring and release in the fall.

I don't think we see Halo 6 until March 2019 launch. 2018 E3 we see in-engine footage, possibly a pre-alpha gameplay segment. Beta in the fall. I think they are going to leave their November timeslot for another time. Don't want to be sandwiched between superior selling franchises like CoD or Battlefield. Look at TitanFall 2. Perhaps the best SP shooter campaign in years, and a great MP and virtually dead. I think H6 misses 2018 altogether.

Humanity's entire military might wasn't destroyed tho. They've still got a fairly massive population and industrial base, and the only other contenders for "galactic superpower" are fragmented and in the middle of a civil war.

It's really not like super unbelievable.

The military might have been destroyed, but it was servery crippled I believe . Billions of humans are died and many of the major military infrastructure is destroyed or damaged like Reach and Earth.

In a time of space colonization that could mean hundreds or thousands of colonies are gone, including heavily populated planets. The economy for humanity should be devastated and communication crippled. I know some areas wouldn't be affected, but still humanity as whole shouldn't be able to jump up that quick no matter because the devastation is so wide scale. Humanity coming back that quick is most likely a narrative reason.

I was hoping they would have jumped 60 years ahead to sort of go along with the Believe campaign. Oh well.

Maybe John just goes missing again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How quick has humanity really recovered? In the postwar landscape we've seen scrappy reclamation efforts on planets like Meridian that is clearly going to take years (Halo 5), we've seen all new planets settled because the old ones got glassed (Envoy), we've seen a few colonies that outright escaped the Covenant's wrath entirely or largely and were cut off from the UNSC. We haven't really seen any evidence of totally ruined planets like Reach bouncing back entirely anywhere but Earth, and we really don't actually know much about what life is like for a lot of people. It seems like fans sometimes forget that the UNSC is basically a fascist organization with heavy command economy powers. The reason the UNSC bounced back is because they are the ones who get to decide where the money goes, and that means we've got fancy new ships and a bunch of companies making Spartan armor, and probably a lot less humanitarian relief or better-than-prewar living standards if you're in a place that got hit during the war.

I don't think the problem is that humanity neccisarily recovered too quickly- it's that the games have done a terrible job describing what effect the war had on civilization.

Due to the self contained nature of the original trilogy, we get a sense that every man, woman, and child in the galaxy was at the end of their rope, but that wasn't neccisarily the case. Then halo 4 drop and we get a sense that everything is all good in the hood.

I had really hoped that H5 would act to get us all up to speed on the dynamics of the post-war galaxy, and HTT hinted that it would, but alas...

Unless they go full RPG hub world on us, I'm not sure there would ever be bandwidth for that kind of survey. As it was, Halo 5 was the most we ever got on what it's like to be a civilian in the world of Halo, even if it was just through a few scattered logs and radio transmissions.

I don't know how they would have the bandwidth now, but I disagree, Halo5 was the perfect opportunity IMO.

The game started mostly how I expected. Since the war is over, Spartans are being used to retain power- stamping out covenant splinter groups, human insurrection, and securing forerunner tech before these factions can get their hands on them. That's the perfect setup for explaining the state of the galaxy- chief and crew would be planet hopping through territories controlled by different factions.

Rather than "tell" what life is like outside of the UNSC via data logs, you'd "show" it via the actions and sentiments expressed by The allies, enemies, and bystanders encountered on the battlefield.

Of course you'd need a plot device to connect it all- and that would be Halsey and Cortana's cryptic messages as well as 'the anomalies'

hm... More than Sadie's story? My memory is fuzzy. Or are we just considering mainline titles?

Didn't 343 consider getting rid of Jen Taylor and Steve Downes before? Now they have the perfect excuse!
Not that I know of, but if they did want to do that, they could always just kill off the Chief and Cortana in a cutscene at the end of the first level of Halo 6.

It turns out it was all a rampant hallucination and Chief's stasis pod runs out of power. Then the Forward Unto Dawn (Bungie-design) crashes onto the Forerunner planet thus putting Cortana out of misery.

Then the simulation ends, and Locke and Arbiter have some tea and a biscuit. And they have to share the biscuit.

Thank you Grim hey I have one question, can you help me please? when I ordered all the previous Halo crates I payed for all of them (which I still need to ship from FATstrounaut's house) do I need to pay again to get this new one or is it still part of the first wave?

I'm actually not completely sure (I'm wondering for myself as well! lol). I'm pretty sure it will just roll over automatically unless you actively "cancel" it, but I will get any clarification I can and report back.

The easy answer is how many did you pay for? The billing will auto renew after you've had all the ones you paid for.

I.E. if you paid for six the last one is the reach one. Then it will auto charge you for another six, starting with the H4 one.

Did anyone here play Halo on PC back in the day?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiS9v4QGAcg

Sure, never played Custom Edition much though. People liked to play giant maps with aircraft, Longswords and Pelicans for some reason in my experience, was never a fan of those really.
Actually, not sure i played the multiplayer itself much, not once Bungie's servers went down. Customs servers rarely, if ever, offered vanilla settings. (Never been a fan of custom games or settings in any game few exceptions aside.)

Pretty maps you got there, based on some quick jumping around. Arrival especially, looks like a place i'd love to walk through. Nice calm atmosphere.

Halo CE/PC had nice clean graphics. Simplistic, but elegant. And the grass texture is still one of the best ever. And the game looks very colorful, which is always a plus in my eyes (as long as graphics aren't cel-shaded or too cartoony.)

I'm thinking we'll see a 3 week long Beta announced at E3 and launching soon after with a 2018 release. Halo 5's Beta releasing so early was more of a way to ensure community feedback to a brand new system, as well as work as PR for the multiplayer portion of the Halo community after what happened with 4. Now that they've been working with Halo 5 for a couple years, it in effect has served as a Beta for 6, since they seem pretty dead set on continuing 5's format. The only big thing I could see them tweaking are changes to Warzone and stress testing servers; taking such a hardline competitive approach to 5 has led for smooth sailing up into 6 for movement, balancement, and Arena.

Edit: Also, I might have figured out how to get MCC to install on my Xbox after some technical issues earlier! Downloading it from the game's Store Hub seems to install the Network data prior to the disc data. It's taking longer this way, but there's a chance I might get the game working. Need me some of that Halo 3 goodness.

I payed for all of the wave 1 crates, I guess that I will be charged again for all the other crates, I gotta figure a way to get them here, it's a shame they don't ship to Mexico

LOL I still remembet your joke when we did the process of the first one haha, thank you for helping me keeping them, trust me one day I will be able to get them just hang in there a little more please my friend

Was sure I remembered something like that going around during Halo 4's development, happy to be wrong though!
There was a short lived rumor which was spawned from a tweet if I recall correctly but it turned out to be a joke. I might just be crazy though.

Been playing MCC since reinstalling and this right here was instant Halo-viagra. Schwiiing.

It's been finding matches and for the most part working...fuck me I might have to necro-bump a MCC thread

I'm afraid to try a party/chat MCC session.

That UI looks amazing to me for some reason. Man whatever 343 cooking, they shoukd just look at what Candland did for Reach, call it a day and move onto other stuff. I know that is H2A above, but its a million times better than baseball cards H4 or whatever random thumbnail H5 is.
