Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.

RE7 is a First Person Survival Horror game. While not actually the first game in the series to take on this perspective, RE7 nonetheless represents a dramatic departure from all previous entries in the series. Rather than focus on action-oriented combat sequences, RE7 follows a formula most recently seen in the original Resident Evil Revelations: a slower-paced game with a balanced emphasis on combat, survival and exploration. For the first time since RE4, there is primarily only one protagonist and no partner accompanying him.

True to classic RE, you can explore environments to find items that may be crucial for your journey. You will also find firearms and melee weapons that will be used to fight off deadly creatures, and Green Herbs that can be used to restore health. Other gameplay elements from recent action-oriented RE titles return in RE7 with some modifications, such as selecting different weapons/items using the D-Pad.

RE7 is compatible with the PlayStation VR. As of launch, the other two platforms (XB1 and PC) are not yet compatible with VR and Capcom has not announced any plans to do so. VR allows the first person perspective to be experienced with greater immersion, although Capcom warns that because VR mode could be mentally and physically exhausting, certain players should test the mode out before diving into it completely.

PS4 Pro owners get an enhanced visual experience in the form of 4K resolution graphics, HDR support and a higher resolution when playing the game in VR. Xbox One S owners have access to HDR whereas original owners do not.

RE7 takes place in 2017, approximately 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6, in the fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana in the Southern United States. It features a new protagonist named Ethan Winters, a civilian who offers fewer combat skills than most previous Resident Evil main characters. Ethan is searching for his missing wife, Mia, which leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the Baker family.

Anyone know if gamestop is staying open late tonight for release? I saw advertisement for 50% extra trade in value towards RE7, yet its only valid between hours of 9pm 1/23/17 and 12am 1/24/17..

This is the first big-budget £40 horror game I've played in a long while... I don't know if I'm tuff enough to finish it.

Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

I am confident a lot of fans of the older titles will be very happy with this entry. It's the perfect game of rejuvenating the franchise and returning more to the old design template and also setting up things to come within the mechanics built in this game to be something continuously special and exciting. If you're looking for another survival horror game and be in tense spooky horrors then this is the perfect game for you to jump/return in.

Welcome
back Resident Evil <3
to the family son!

so no early VPN unlocks right? Oh well. I took Wednesday off to play this and Yakuza.

Hope Nvidia gets a driver out for SLI support, but not holding my breath. Their whole driver situation has been a trash fire recently.

Wasn't even on my radar. Played the demo and now am pumped to play the full game. For Xbox players, the game is a Play Anywhere title. If you buy it digitally you get it on both XB1 and W10.

Based on the demo (which I still find myself re-playing) this seems like an excellent mix of horror and puzzle solving. I hope the reviews pan out well! Previews seemed incredible positive so I'm hopeful. I want a game that can give me an adrenaline rush.

I'm eager to see the reviews. I may get it depending on the reviews (since there are parts of the game I haven't seen).

First two hours is really solid, don't get spoiled by the first parts of the game by reviews or someone showing it to you!!
