Persona 5 |OT2| Someone must have been helping you go to bed early. Talk!

I finally completed the game today just short of 99 hours played. I haven't spent so much time on a game since The Witcher 3 or FFXV - so it's in good company - and P5 is definitely the most I've enjoyed a JRPG in years.

As someone who struggled to get into previous games in the series due to my constant nagging dread over the idea of an RPG with times elements, I'm glad I chose to push past my constant fear of playing the game "wrong" and finally get to enjoy a Persona game. I missed a bunch of content on my first run through, but I'm okay with it. Admittedly, knowing about things like the
SP Adhesives
, and the
Temperance & Fortune
confidants in advance of playing made me feel a lot better about the choices I would have to make during the playthrough, something I struggled with in P4 or FF Type-0 HD.

I'll definitely return for a NG+ Platinum Trophy run, but won't be doing it any time soon as I have genuinely spent 1/4 of the year on a single game and my backlog longs for relief. If I do get the urge to dive back into a Persona game I've had P4 Golden for years but have never made it further than the first part of the game, so that's something I'll definitely be fixing ASAP.

Fantastic game.

I don't think you need to do 1 at all tbh.

As soon as you get rank 3 with
Yoshida
money stops being a problem.

Eh... I gave that option in case he wanted to end the game with OP personas and I'm sure you can't get most of them and customise their moveset according to your needs/wishes with just the normal method.

Had to stop playing on the day before the trip to
Hawai
.
Have a couple of Confidants on hold because they require a trip to mementos, I went in about a month ago, should've waited. Probably gonna wait until november now since I'll be going in for the reaper exploit.

Just started the Casino palace. Hmm I wonder who the traitor is
It can't be the person who's missing in the steel book or who's social link works differently from the rest of your party <_<

They didn't even try to hide it.

They didn't even try to hide it. Nice lol

They drop plenty of hints throughout the story, it's less of a "who did it?" and more of a "How did they do it?"

Finally looped
back to the beginning of the story.

I took a break for a while from P5 to play Prey and some other games and it's been a struggle for the past day or so to get back into this. Glad I did though as things are finally starting to pick up. Ready for the ride to commence.

God the fact that it's instant game over when Joker dies is such a bafflingly bad design decision in an otherwise amazing game. Just lost like an hour and a half of progress in
Shido's
palace due to an unlucky critical & followup combo

Man, this same thing just happened to me about an hour ago. Had to put the game down, as I was furious.

What's the issue with Ryuji's ability? I haven't made much progress with his confidant yet.

It will 'sometimes' instantly win an encounter for you when you ambush, also recruiting a random demon from the mob. The problem is that 'sometimes' ends up being a pretty high percentage if you are around the same level (and every time once you're a little above the level) of the demons you're fighting.

It's frustrating because it skips the encounter, but doesn't give you any exp/money. The only time I was thankful for it was in NG+, finishing the last few palaces horribly over-levelled, as it meant I didn't have to actually fight much on the way.

I see, if it happens frequently that's definitely annoying, does removing him from the party disable the ability?

Yes I threw him out of the party. 90% of the encounters in the 4th Mementos area (I just got to) were insta-kills for instance. Absolutely terrible, especially since Ryuji was my tarukaja boy. Gotta change it up now.

good news, the ability activates regardless of whether he is in the party or not

I don't think it does. I did the latter half of Mementos with
Yusuke
instead of him and ambushed opponents left and right.

edit: You guys sure? I'm positive it didn't activate once after I got rid of him. That is one game-ruining ability right there especially since I play on hard and even allegedly easy opponents hit comparatively hard.

I'm somewhat shocked people had issues with that ability. The game's easy enough in the back end that you have no need to grind, and the ability only really activates on enemies below your level.

I thought the ability was a godsend for Mementos.

Huh? I think that ability only kicks in when you've horribly outleveled the enemy mob anyway. I've never seen it kick in for anything that gives worthwhile exp.

I'm 2 levels above the average player at the moment. (31 vs 29) I also don't ever grind (I'm a pretty seasoned MegaTen player), I just enjoy the fighting way more than the story in this game.

So I beat the game...I feel empty. :(

Need to find something to fill in the hole...
Same here, I have been replaying it and I'm on my fourth playthru be cause I just want more P5. I just wish P5Arena was announced with GGXrd 3D models, but Arksys making DBFZ I'm afraid that might not come for quite a while. I'm crossing my fingers we get something P5 related at Tokyo Game Show.

Yeah honestly I didn't know where that ability came from but I loved it because it helped me grind through like 6 requests in a row without dealing with needless fights.

yes, i never even used Ryuji and had it kickm in constantly. Super annoying when I was trying to get the Futaba lines trophy

However the rate it kicks in varies based on your level compared to the enemy

I looked at my playtime for the first time and I was just staring blankly at it for about a minute in disbelief. When did I spend 60 hours on this game?

And...nope, think I'm done for tonight. Got Joker killed by some bullshit death spell and it was game over. Don't feel like going through this shitty
palace 5 dark room
sequence again this evening.

Visually the dungeon is pretty cool with all the
cash monies floating around
but whoever thought this
dark area
was a good idea needs to be bufu'd.

Ok, so I've just finished this masterpiece and I'm very depressed right now. Same thing happened with P4G. Nah. Actually, this time is worse. It felt so close to me...

I should thank Atlus for putting the Metaverse sections in this game. It reminded me that I was just playing a game.

Persona 5 destroyed me. A very powerful, immersive, and inspirational game. Honestly, it's something to be remembered for all life. There's a valuable lesson told in it.

Would it be too hyperbolic to say that it's the greatest story ever told in gaming? Or maybe at least in the JRPG genre?

I'm in tears right now. Why did this have to end?

Well, new game+, here we go.

Persona truly is a special franchise, isn't it.

Ok, I appear to have screwed up somewhere in my min maxing.

It's
august 4th
, and everything i've read says I should be at lv4 charm by now, so I can do the next step with a certain confidant.

But i'm seemingly only at lv3. Even doing a luck reading and big bang burger challenge isn't getting me to lv4.

My only thought is ether I was suppose to get the extra charm from an event sometime, or I skipped out on a plus three charm event at some point. No idea when though. I think I skipped a confidant mission to shore up a missed chariot event, but I didn't think it woudl effect me that much.

I'm honestly considering reverting to a previous save. i'd lose, eh, about two hours, and have to refinish the middle boss of the 4th palace, but i'm hoping that if I buy three luck readings for charm, and do the burger event + two fruit teas, i'll hit that charm lv and be back on track stat wise about a week later (when i'd normally do the burger event, instead do confidant).

Edit: Redid it, still not going to work. I can't get the fortunes read on those days, due to rain. So i'll just have to move the schedule around somehow and delay some other confidant somewhere.

This game has some severe problems with heavy foreshadowing.. literally NOTHING is a surprise in this game.. and every plot point is over explained.

Still love it but im in october and yeah, it was hard to not see what ws coming.

also how far am I? 50%, 70%?

Sojiro Rank 9... T_T

Glad to see so many great reactions to beating the game.

But you'll never see it coming.

For real though, by the time we got to the moments that lead to the game's opening I had a few suspicions and it did end up being one of them, but not the main one at that point. Also the moments that follow completely surprised me.

Just got the game and started playing - really enjoying it thus far :D. I really like the art style, the story (from what I can make of it - I"m just about 2h15 in) and the music especially - the music really is fantastic.

Does anyone happen to know what the name of the song that plays when you're at LeBlanc is called?

Also is there a way to see a legend on the map, or to zoom in past the default zoom level? It's a bit small for me to work out what the map is indicating even when I bring up the full size one.

Honestly? The fact you have Third Eye pretty much makes that part of the dungeon moot. The only "dangerous" enemy to be ambushed by is Skadi (inflict Despair + insta-death). Norn's only annoying if you let it spam Diarahan.

RE Ryuji's insta-kill: Funnily enough, if you vastly over-level the mobs in Mementos, they just run away from you. No battle required. The only time Ryuji's ability is remotely useful is during palaces since those enemies will go after you regardless of level.

Not much in terms of map controls unfortunately. There's sometimes a toggle zoom but its to zoom out :p

But at some point you won't need them either because you remember where it all is or you are just fast traveling (once you visit them, almost every single business/restaurant/hangout spot all show up on a list of fast travel spots).

Despite being a huge SMT/Persona fan and being hyped for this game for years, I'm only now finding the time to dig in. If I'm only planning on doing one playthrough for now, is there anything I definitely don't wanna miss out on doing? I'm not going to be using a guide for max S links for my first time through, but I don't want to miss out on anything too awesome that's easily missable at the same time. My friend said
Focus on the S Link for the teacher, and visit some juice bar or something on Sundays.

after you clean up your room, you can start feeding your plant nutrients which will give you kindness points without using any time.

Thanks! Yeah I tried pressing triangle, and that zoomed it out - was like "this is not what I'm looking for" lol. Will just have to get used to it I guess. That's good news re the fast travel, though.

"Beneath the Mask"

Thanks! It's so soothing! I've had "Last Surprise" in my head for the past few days and only a few minutes after playing, it ("Beneath the Mask") replaced that. The soundtrack for this is really something special.

First-time posting in this topic. I just finished up my first couple hours of Persona 5 and after some reading and pacing back and forth in my room complaining aloud, I'm here still upset and disappointed.

There are a few things that bother me but more than anything else the script has left me tired and frustrated. There had been some lines in the introduction that hadn't sat well with me, but it was really once I got to leaving the school on 4/10 with Sojiro that everything started to become clear to me. I didn't feel I had a grasp on his character, and I didn't understand the dialogue choices being presented to me. They certainly didn't result in the type of responses that I'd have wanted in this situation but then again I don't understand this man to begin with. So here's the piece of dialogue that broke me:

"Now listen up. Don't even think of doing anything stupid.
Still, you were expelled once already. To think you'd re-enroll at a different one.
It's not like anyone will be sympathetic with you.
...If that's what it was like in school, people might say stuff about me in the future too..."

What the fuck is he saying? My brain is heading at this full throttle because... duh, this is Persona, and Persona 4's great, and I for the love of god don't understand what's going on here. Like, the bare facts of the statements are clear, but there's no logical progression to this line of thinking no (statement A -> statement B), and Sojiro doesn't seem to be intended to be a crazy person, so I'm just confused and frustrated.

So I googled it up and I'm not alone on this and I'm really afraid the whole game is gonna be like this and if it is I'm just not gonna be able to play this, and that makes me angry and disappointed and really sad.

A few other thoughts, since they're fresh in my head:
Maybe my preference, but I like the 3rd person narration for actions and thoughts of the protagonist used in the previous games over the 1st person here.
Why did the game make me play out a small sequence further detailing the incident that led to me expulsion from home when the opening cutscene explained it via flashback and Sojiro exposited it directly? Only one was necessary.
This town is rundown and the music ain't catchy yet! But it's just the first two days so I'm not (was not) really worried about that.

This particular bit of context is necessary for the story later on. It'll make sense.
