You said Odo was your favorite character, right? Have you seen "Necessary Evil?" I think that's your next episode. You'll like it because it's all about him.

Just finished watching it. I liked it a lot. They even did a Columbo homage. The plot was a little transparent, but when the rest of the episode is done well that's totally forgivable.

It was nice to get some back story from the Cardassian occupation and how Odo and Kira were connected. All of the characters (except Sisko, weirdly) are growing on me in the second season.

Bashir is less of a giant frat boy twat, even.

We watched Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn last night. As good as I remember it. Kirk's liners to Kahn were pretty funny. "I am laughing at your superior intellect." "You've managed to kill everyone else but like a poor marksman you keep missing the target."

It's not perfect but it's really good. And of course it has the saddest moment in Trek history and one of the most sad moments in film, IMO.

I think Sisko and Jadzia Dax were the two hardest characters to pin down (with respect to their personalities) for the writers. By the end of season 3, though, Sisko should have really grown on you.

Here are some of my favorite DS9 episodes, all underrated and pre-Worf era:

Dramatis Personae -- An alien "telepathic matrix" causes the DS9 crew to re-enact an ancient power struggle, leading Kira to attempt mutiny and overthrow Sisko.

Rivals -- With the help of a gambling device, an El'Aurian con man opens a casino that threatens to put Quark out of business, so Quark attempts to regain his customers by sponsoring a charity racquetball tournament between O'Brien and Bashir.

Shadowplay -- Odo and Dax investigate the disappearances of several missing people in a small settlement, only to discover the entire village and its people are part of a sophisticated holographic simulation.

Tribunal -- Chief O'Brien is arrested by the Cardassians and forced to engage in a public Cardassian show trial, despite the fact his fate has already been determined.

Civil Defense -- A buried anti-takeover program seizes control of DS9 and threatens the station with annihilation.

Prophet Motive -- Quark must determine why Grand Nagus Zek has become a free-wheeling philanthropist.

I like the one in the second season where that lady puts Sisko in the sweat box. do you know the title of that one?

Paraside?

It's ok, but I hate that lady! Sisko should have punched her instead of Q.

Q? No Q was not in this episode.
It's when sisko and Miles crash on a planet where technology does not work, and sisko want to try to get his medical supplies from the runabout, but the lady who runs the place hates technology, and punishes him by putting him in a sweat box. When he is allowed out, rather than change out of his starfleet uniform, he puts himself back in the box.

lol. He wasn't implying that Q was in that episode.

Yes, Sisko should have punched her, and that was a good episode.

So did you guys like the Augment arc in season 4 of ENT? Thus far it's been the only part of season 4 I've really cared for. (Just finished the silly Orion slave girl ep.)

I liked Tribunal quite a bit, just cuz it's a TOB (Torture O'Brien) episode. Not really a big fan of the rest on that list to be honest, and I hate most Ferengi episodes.

I have the TOS series on VHS (given to me by my mom's friend), but I watched some of them so many times, that it just cuts off sometimes:( I miss the Elaan of Troyius episode...oh but i guess i could watch it on the internet come to think of it.

I never did watch the Wrath of Khan fully through. I walked in on my father watching the end and I got pissed off with the ending.

Kirk was vunerable and showed a real side of a person with flaws despite in TOS and most of the films being a super hero. However it was only when under the direction of Nick Meyes sadly. But in his two movies he did show a very very vulnerable Kirk who could connect with you as a person.

So Kirk WAS able to be shown as a flawed normal human, but only under Meyes. Well and City on the Edge of Forever.

Kirk was a character who was a real person who could be connected with and was filled with flaws and emotional problems, but almost none of the writers/directors in Trek took advantage of it. It was easier to play up Super Kirk.

Dont forget The Enemy Within, in which a transporter malfunction causes him to split into two separate Kirks with two separate personalities. I loved Kirk the most because he wasn''t perfect. I amsick of perfect heroes, they are far from human.

I have DVDs of season one of the ToS on loan from a friend. Good stuff.
Kirk is really cool in the show and doesn't really come off as the "rebel" trying to stick it to the man he does in some of the films. He's just a really good Captain, and totally Starfleet.

Despite the praise season four gets, I think that it barely rises to the quality set by the first two seasons of TNG. The augment thing, however, was probably the best thing they ever did on that show, at least as far as story arcs go.

The Augments weren't very bright.

The characters can only be as smart as the writers, and even the Vulcans are pretty damned stupid in that series. In fact, that's a problem that carried over from Voyager: the audience is always two steps ahead of the characters on screen.

Speaking of Star Trek, anyone see the Futurama episode where the whole thing is based on like 5-6 episodes from TOS? I loled when I was able to name the episodes each part was based on, meanwhile my friends loled at me. That was my favorite episode of Futurama ever!

They're like 18-20, right? Even genetic engineering can't override the innate stupidity that comes with that age bracket.

But yeah finished the season last night and it definitely does not get better. Just a bunch of fanservice and attempts to answer canon discrepancies (lol Klingon ridge virus).

Do you remember what it's called? I could go for some Futurama right now.

Is it the one with (almost) the entire TOS cast in it ?

called "Where no Fan has Gone Before".

People always hold up Duet as one of Trek's best episodes ever, but I remember reading in one of Leonard Nimoy's books about how in the 70's or 80's he directed a stage play concerning a major Nazi war criminal on trial for the deaths of thousands. In the end, it turned out the Nazi
was really just a minor bureaucrat consumed by guilt because he did nothing while so many perished.
I was really surprised that Duet ripped off that plot so blatantly.

Does anyone know what that play was called?
Speaking of Star Trek ripping things off, I was reading 1984 a couple months back and became really annoyed when I found out that a TNG episode basically plagiarized the last section of that book.

I never liked voyager much. Couldn't stand the captain's annoying voice and just overall lameness. There were a few decent episodes interspersed but I couldn't make myself sit through the whole first season much less the rest. Mr. Quantum Leap and his cast of bad actors killed my hopes of Trek going any further. The acting/actors was subpar and the budget lacking. That was two strikes to begin with.

Ahem...

In the entertainment industry that is called "Paying Homage" not plagiarism.

I used to love Voyager but after watching it on Virgin 1 recently I realise I was more in love with the premise than the show. Some of it was incredible but there was a lot that was quite the opposite, and after watching BSG I don't have much time for the clinality of ST. DS9 is the closest to the grit I love about BSG.

I agree. I used to watch a little Voyager, but my favorite that sticks out in my mind was when Tuvok was shown on the Excelsior with the cast from Star Trek VI. Voyager always had a "Lost in Space" vibe that I always hated. It was ONE story of them getting back home that ruled the series, and I disliked it.

DS9 was good, but I don't get the love it gets over TNG. When Jadzia Dax died I said forget it. The TNG finale was probably THE best Trek episode of all Treks.

Enterprise? I gave it a chance, and I liked the idea of Bakula as a Captain. Again, I liked the idea...but then when it seemed to me like "this" Enterprise did EVERYTHING first, I said "fuck you" and didn't watch again.

I never noticed that it's always a redshirt that dies until my bf pointed it out to me when we were watching The Apple episode (the one with Va'al).

Who cares if it was ripped off when the execution and acting was so damn good? I think it's actually great that they adapted it to the Bajoran/Cardassian theme. Nana Visitor + Harris Yulin had some of best scenes in the series.

Darheel's line of "What you call genocide, I call a day's work." sent chills up my spine. When he broke down near the end... man. That was tour de force stuff there.

Yeah. Really I think most of Enterprise season 4's three-parters are quite decent, and would compare favorably with many of the Trek movies.

Interesting note: The writer of that episode went on to get offered (and take) a writing role on Enterprise.

Three more episodes until "The Wire!"

Saw it, enjoyed it. Also enjoyed the Maquis double-feature before it.

Someday they'll figure out what to do with Sisko.

Oh, and "Crossover"? Yuck. Just yuck. The costume designer needs to be taken out back and shot. And Odo should have had a beard.

^^I remember not feeling well the last time I saw Crossover, so I can't give my opinion of it.

Saw Wrath of Khan the other night:

"From Hell's heart, I stab at thee..."

Saw Jem'Hadar and finished off Season Two. Good episode, and they finally begin teasing the real story.

Also saw the first of Season 3. Great episode. People firing phasers, people kicking ass, Odo going batshit, Romulans, cloaked vessels, oh my! The Defiant is sweet. Finally some starships up in this bitch.

That's how you start a season. Although Jake's costumes are as goofy as ever, it seems like they're finally getting a feel for Sisko.

If you thought the beginning of season 3 was how you should start off a season, wait until you (hopefully) see the start of season four. :lol

So, I'm watching "Second Skin" and I suddenly realize that the Cardassian interrogating Kira is Chano from Barney Miller. Extra points for hiring Barney Miller actors. I understand Ron Glass makes an appearance later.
