I'm still keeping my ps4 pro for the exclusives of course but multiplayer, Ms own games and 3rd parts will be played on Xbox. The user base with these three platforms all combined will be huge and much bigger than on Playstation as well so it's a no brainer.

You do know PlayStation has crossplay with PC right. So unless Nintendo and Xbox are able to match the amount of ps4s out there. It will still be a bigger userbase. Probably be why Sony doesn't give a damn about it right now .

Yep, Spencer wants cross play because it benefits his platform. Sony doesn't because it doesn't benefit their platform. If sales were reversed, then their positions would be reversed as well.

No, but its time to let it go, its not going to happen and is not in his hand to change another company view on the subject. He could just say that Sony doesnt care about it /end.

As an Xbox owner I dont care about it neither, if he wants a bigger pool of players he should step up his game and attract new players, thats all.

Like Phil implies, Sony doesnít want to do it because it sells consoles. No amount of pressure is going to make Sony come out and admit that. Would be nice if they just came out and said business reasons and move on but that might just create a bigger backlash so they are doing the next best thing which is ignoring/staying quiet.

Basically. It's solid good guy Phil bullshit like he always craps out, but totally pointless. If you swapped market positions right now, we'd never hear from Phil on this again.

That said, Sony does still deserve the beating they've taken on this.

How about he keeps getting asked by the media (your words) and answers the question. Show me where he randomly post on twitter saying "hey it's another day and no Sony cross-play, go talk to them." If he did not respond and said no comment it would get spun out of control. At least when he is asked he stays on point and gives the same answer "talk to Sony."

Oh come on though... Sony is pushing back for the same reason MS was pushing back before and they will find a way to make it difficult/push back again if they get so much ahead of the competition in sales: there is NO business incentive in opening the walled garden that much that it even so slightly removes one incentive to stick with your platform/buy your platform instead of the competition. Would it be nice if it was different? Yes. Is Microsoft fighting for that? I do not think so, they want less incentive for their players to jump ship and/or give money to their competition and buy their online service/games (giving them royalty on sales).

I want this so every game that is able to be crossplay becomes crossplay. This isn't about Minecraft. This is about every multi-platform game that can become crossplay to be cross play this is about, Minecraft, Rocket League, Fortnite, and more to come. The more games become easier to be cross-platform they will continue to want crossplay.

Sony have really given Microsoft a massive PR win by the way they've handled cross-play talk. Phil is smart to put the pressure on them again. From a business perspective I find it hard to blame Sony, there isn't a whole lot to be gained for them, but they should just admit that they don't want it because they want people to be playing on PS4s as opposed to XB1s.

People don't like Phil because he's a sanctimonious bullshit artist. He's against 3rd party exclusives, until he's for them, but then it's some other reason that it's bad for Sony to have exclusive things, but not for Xbox to have exclusive things. He's not flogging cross play because he's some warrior for consumer rights, he's flogging it because it's good for Xbox. If market positions were reversed he would feel the opposite way. He's a PR man selling his brand, and that's fine, but the Xbox fans who feel he's some kind of beacon of virtue of doing it gets old.

I only have a problem with the BS moral argument... not that it would not be better for gamers... also, Sony could open up for PS4 and I would be sure that if MS got a huge lead next generation you would have the same problem again. If one wanted to be cynical...people on PS4, the PS4 gamers that Sony says they are shepharding and taking care of do not have online userbase issues, they do not have problems finding players.

This isn't new info, or a new take, but it is what it is; developers, publishers, and players have expressed the desire for crossplay, to the point where technical implementation is already set up in advance. The business side of it benefits games and publishers. The engineering is a non-issue this generation, and unless you're an evangelical for one platform or the other, it's a benefit to players of all stripes.

Some people get frustrated when Spencer is asked this question in interviews and he answers it. There can't even be the accusation that it's a misleading answer. It's like the situation itself frustrates them, but it would be difficult for them to emotionally reconcile the events with the figures, so they deflect or prevaricate. If Sony's reasoning for their policy is sound, they should communicate it. All we have so far is something that's not a stretch to call a lie.

The only way you could think allowing crossplay would be a bad move for Sony is if you're a shareholder or you're an executive there. It would only be positive for Ps4 players.

All games would benefit. Healthy games would have better skill-based matchmaking with the larger player pool, and regions without healthy populations would become more healthy. Playing at odd hours for your region would be less of a problem. Developers could support their games better and longer with one unified population, and take more risks on games that might not capture the populations to sustain individual communities on separate platforms.

Do people realize how much of a big boost it would be for MS if Sony agreed right when the more powerful Xbox one x is launching? Basically, Sony giving the green light to players that they can safely buy the other console and still play destiny, cod with your friends. Yes it works the other way too but Sony stands to lose way more in this scenario, it would be great for consumers but as a business the market leader is always going to be reluctant.

I don't think the console market is quite the rollercoaster people portray it as. Sony basically sells 100m+ units every gen and leads the market. Even last gen, which seemed like a prank Sony was pulling to see how much they could alienate and infuriate customers, still saw Sony moving almost 100m units.

Sony: "We are the market leaders in both sales and name brand. We are completely dominant and are on pace to have the best selling console of all time. There is zero incentive to let other companies into our playground for multiplayer. Want the best multiplayer experience on a console? Get it on PS4."

That is their answer. They will never say it that clearly, but means the PS4 saved Sony as company I can't really fault their business reasoning for this even though it sucks for consumers.
