Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Some questions that have been piling up;
-I gave madeleine the gold idol but her stock doesn't seem to update with the fancy new items? I've skipped 2 days at the inn and it still hasn't updated.

-now that I gave away my gold idol I no longer get my discount at stores?:(

-Where can I get more of the teleport stones? I think I only found 3 so far (just completed the audience with the duke after the wyrm quest chain)
I wouldn't mind another one to put near witchwood

-any specific crafting items that I should be saving up for endgame? If nothing specific then never mind.

-can I marry the duke's fiancee (Aelinore) ? I tried to google her but I had to stop reading cos I could tell I was going to read a bunch of huge spoilers... A simple yes or no answer will do (I know nothing about the marrying or w/e it is or consequences or how it works, just that it exists)

-what's the point of npc affinity in general? I don't get it
Also can I raise it by giving any item to anyone?

Also someone use my pawn if you're around lvl 34-35 xD I want to see how that works (alilsneaky psn name, it's in the google doc)

I just spent like 2 hours onthe wiki to figure out a bunch of stuff before accepting the duke audience but now that I'm at the mid game I'm scared of spoilers and having to look shit up sucks the fun out of the game.

It seems to me like Death and Daimon2 have certain dmg thresholds you need to break to actually hurt them. Anyone with a forged lvl 2 weapon will break it though. I see so many compulsively OCD people creating this shared mania about stuff that's so damn irrelevant it baffles me. Seen people restart cause they gained a couple level in the "wrong" class, or won't switch to level 200 so they dont gain levels in the other classes because of stat growth. That's just unbelievably insane. This game DOESNT have PVP, why are people obsessed about 5% more damage output at the cost of making the game significantly less fun?! You can beat anything at level 200, you'll gain more power faster by getting good augs when you want them, than waiting to 200. If you want to play speed run mode competitively, by all means then min/max. Just completely dumb being obsessed that you hit a boss for 3720 instead of 3515.

Agreed, as a warrior the only two things I need is A -> X

Oh, right now I just used Exodus slash and Indomitable lash (the charge one). I have pommel strike but don't use it too often, anything better I should think about changing to?

Ouch, so far my leveling has been:

1-10 Mage
10-25 Mystic Knight
25-35 Sorcerer

Just switched to Ranger to have a bit of fun with that, and I'm really feeling my lack of physical strength. Even buying all the best gear I can from Caxton and upgrading it all to level 3 my bow feels like it does fuck all damage unless enchanted.

Quick question: I'm just at the point in the main story where
I'm supposed to go meet the duke. It clearly states that all taks will be wiped out, but does this include my notice board quests as well?

Remember, it's not your leveling (stats), it's the gear! :p
With your current progression, you may as well try out the Magick Archer if you haven't yet. They are like the new black or something, and everyone is trying them out.

Doesn't feel like BBI likes melee classes at all. Warrior especially is even more useless than before.

Seeing complaints about Assassins or even Rangers not doing much damage had me thinking that BBI is the playground for the Mystic Knight and Magick Archer. Both were relatively subpar (not talking about preferences here!) classes in vanilla, where being a Sorcerer or Assassin/Ranger/Fighter ruled the day. Magic resist really wasn't necessary at all in vanilla, but it seems practically mandatory in BBI. My Magick Archer is pretty much mowing through things at level 71, but the entire time I'm fighting some of these enemies via cheapness I would think about how annoying it would be doing the same fight as a non magic hybrid.

Also, I'm only playing on normal. So maybe others with the big difficulties are playing on hard. I'm at a point now where I can't wait to finish BBI up and start a new game on hard since there's no way to stop leveling. I don't want to go higher than what I'm at now, because things are becoming too easy, yet I can't go two steps without leveling here. When Capcom said BBI was meant for level 50 - 75, I kind of think that they meant that's the starting point. Otherwise you wouldn't be gaining 1200 - 10k per kill.

1. Give it a couple more days. It'll appear eventually.

2. No more discount if you no longer have the item. Does anyone remember if you could dupe it?

3. You'll encounter more of them as you explore. Did you find the one in the Dragonforged's lair?

4. Not really. Just save everything you find.

5. Yes.

6. Determines who you're paired with at the end of the game. Can have hilarious or disasterous results.

Are you doing the quest to give her a gold idol? Just randomly giving it to her will not work.

-now that I gave away my gold idol I no longer get my discount at stores?:(
A forged gold idol will work as a a discount (but not for the quest). If you're on xbox, I can give you a forgery. If not, i'm sure someone here will

I think the only one left is in witchwood. I think you gotta complete the Witch Hunt quest.

-any specific crafting items that I should be saving up for endgame? If nothing specific then never mind.
Just store everything if I were you.

She is a love interest but in this game, its not really a marriage.

-what's the point of npc affinity in general? I don't get it
Also can I raise it by giving any item to anyone?
Shopkeepers will often have better items if you raise their affinity. Each npc has different likes and dislikes.

Amen, why are people so damn OCD about this shit? Know what the difference between the worst and best stat growth is? About 2-3 attacks on a boss, so who gives a shit?

Guy #1 "Guys, I want to play a MA, but I heard they have bad stat growth?"

Guy #2 "Yeah dude, just play mage 1-10, then sorc 10-200, then switch to MA"

Me: /facepalm

This game is not that challenging that you need extra 150 stat points to be competitive. Its not a MOBA, it has no PvP, what are you doing this shit for? Just play the game with whatever class you want! What the heck is everyone so worried about? That they will hit some brick wall and have a ruined character? I guarantee that cannot happen regardless of what choices you make. This will be the biggest difference, guy's speedrun of final boss will be 47 seconds, while yours is 50 seconds. OH NO!

Guy #1 "Guys, I feel like I'm hitting a brick wall, and I can't damage so and so"
Guy #2 "Yeah dude, just go farm Everfall for 20 hours and dragonforge all of your gear"
Guy #1 "I already did that"
Guy #2 "Go level up some more"

Leveling up or min/maxing ends up with the same damn result until you can't level any more. It's not just about damage either. Stamina matters a lot as well, and some classes simply have much better stamina gains than others. You can always carry around curatives, but unless you take Sinew as a lighter class, you're going to have issues with weight if you're carrying around enough to compensate for lower stats. Health also matters, especially if you're ever bothering with melee. Saying that stats don't matter is only partially true, but not completely. Because you can't honestly believe that leveling from 1-50 as a Mage/Sorcerer and then switching to a melee focused Assassin is smart. Even if you will be doing decent damage with enchanted weapons, your health pool will be kind of detrimental. Armor won't cover that. In vanilla, most things were cake, so you could get away with "do whatever, it doesn't matter". It does matter now in BBI a bit more.

Also, you don't have to bother with playing X class until Y level anymore. At least, not if you have the Eternal Ferrystone. You just switch for a few minutes right before every level and then go back to playing the class you want to play. Or, you could just level up your character 15 - 30 more levels than what you would need to as another class.

Copy finally arrived, time for that fresh start hard mode playthrough. Is there a list of the best inclination to have for each class for a pawn?

Nah it means nothing. Those augments will raise your weapon's stats too, so when you're wielding a weapon with 800-1800 Strength/Magick then it really doesn't matter.

Min/maxing in this game is so pointless.

If you are constantly changing between str based vocations and magick based vocations (and vice versa), you will not notice much. But if you only played with str based vocations and after reaching 200 want to play as Sorcerer, you will notice.

For example, my main character have a base str of 1256 and a base magick of 309. So if I switch my vocation to Sorcerer, my damage output will decrease even with the best equipment.

But you are right in one thing. You don't need to min/max to enjoy this game and it's not a requirement to beat every enemy.

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
Damn I fucked myself for the Gold Idol. I turned in all the evidence, both good and bad, for Fournival and my pawns are saying he's gonna be guilty so I can't do Escort Duty. I gave the Silver one to Madeleine. Oh well.

I went from level 1-35 as a warrior now I'm going as a MK and loving the shield skills. Never used them as a warrior... im trying to have nice and balanced stats but we'll see how it goes.

Are people online with the broken patch? I started offline today but I lost a good pawn and I had to hire an npc who sucks. ..

I guarantee you I could beat the game on hard, solo, with any build anyone could devise for me. The only "difficulty wall" in this game is in BBI when you come there without gear. You need to get some of the gear and forge it to break the dmg thresholds for two of the bosses.

People should min/max fun, not stats. If you find min/max stats to be the pinnacle of fun, I have no problem with that either. Just the stupid OCD people come here with saying stuff like they are going to "ruin" their character. Stuff like that makes me vomit.

P.S. leveling up in the new content is very fun and not ineffecient at all, AND you'll be getting tons of good gear! I've gone from 70 to 140 in short order.

I just can't agree with Sanctuary's post.

Health doesn't matter because of Spring Water/Regen gear.

Stamina doesn't matter because of Large Mushrooms.

I'm speaking from personal experience, but that's just the way the game is for me.

My sorcerer just gets one-shotted by everything anyway. Health and defense haven't really been a consideration of mine. I it'll be the same once I reach BBI.

Man, I've already put 25 hours in to this. That's the most I've played a single game on console/pc since Batman: AC (not including fighters).

You'll definitely want to beat the game first or be in the mid 50's before going to BBI.

That's what I thought.

Holy Shit, my game glitched or I really messed up somehow- I lost my void key, not sure how.
It's nowhere in my inventory, no pawns have it (can it be sent back to another players game?
I would not have intentionally gifted it, but it's the only non-glitch option I can think of.

Went to the Black Cat & it's not there as an option to copy.

I DON'T want to restart (level 40 now, many great hours spent).

Can a Void Key be gifted? Can anyone help me out?

A forged gold idol will work as a a discount (but not for the quest). If you're on xbox, I can give you a forgery. If not, i'm sure someone here will

.

Thanks cobalt and deified for the replies.

No I did the quest to give it to her, the window to give it to her popped up I did not randomly give it as a present.

The quest is completed in my quest log.

I'm on ps3 and I didn't make a forgery :(

I would greatly appreciate it if someone who has the game on ps3 could forge a gold idol for me (if that works and doesn't just send a rock :( )

If you can't get the key to progress, then your option is to finish the game and go into NG+.

It is painful waiting because my pawn has been significantly upgraded bit I'm afraid of losing everything. Even if it's backed up is just to risky...

Also I think a gaffer had been using my pawn religiously. It's a nice steady stream of RC lol. Everyone should use my pawn, real talk

When you go to the black cat, you need to look through his stock. He'll sell quest items that you discarded or sold, if any.

Btw, where is the purple quest marker for you? Is it in the midnight helix?

Thanks for your response.

I looked through all the options in his stock, not there.

Haven't tried checking the map to locate it since I've lost it, I'll try that next time.

Yes the midnight helix (all the way up)

You have to go to the main menu to use that item. Character edit.
Yeah, the main menu ate it instead of you. And as I recall forging doesn't replicate magical properties so I don't think you could get it copied even if it were a consumable item instead of an option that shows up on the title screen.

Man-o-man lich/dragon is destroying me. I can't seem to do any damage to the lich.

If anyone would like to use my pawn that would be awesome. She is a great healer with the BBI heal and BBI lightning buff.

PSN info. Character: Traize PSN: T2JG Pawn: Feonix 77 mage

Can I get added to the google doc also?

That'd be me. Vespian is the best ranger in my level range.

Kill the dragon, it'll die if you sneeze on it. Once it's revived and the sorcerer fuses with it, kill it again and the dude will be stunned for a long time.

Dragon's Dogma Vanilla-GAF w/ Dark Arisen- I platinumed Vanilla, and no longer have access to my save file (corrupted). Is there enough content in Dark Arisen to warrant a return to Gran Soren?

hey guys, i'm going through dark arisen and loving it so far. this is my first time with the game and i don't know how i should handle the bitterblack isles, should i go there before the end of the main questline? does the game continue or change post main questline? i want to make sure it's still a challenge. thanks!

I'm sure you can get more content for $40 if youre just playing for BBI, However, I've put like 20 into the new content, feel like I have around 10 more of meaningful play before I move on. 30hrs for $40 is plenty for me.

Kinda glad I'm finishing these quests off, I'm finding lots of new materials I didn't have before. Strigoi have some rare drops you could easily miss

The statues are total bullshit. Some require levitate to even get too.

I love how my pawn just stands there doing jackshit when I have Daimon stunlocked. She only casts when he's not. I'm done with that, going to DF the best 2h in the game and try warrior.

God's had his chance.
Anyone with doubles of the Oblivion or Hellfire basically any lvl 3 or 4 armor you don't need or is extra.. i'd freakin love it.

PSN: Silkysm00th

Pawn is set to ranger right now ... i'll switch her over to Fighter if anyone has baller swords/shields/armor for an assassin :)

purty please?? I have a 3 year and not nearly enough time to keep grinding through Daimon. Every night till 7 in the morning :p

Beat Daimon after rinsing Wakestones (time to farm them again, too).

God damn at all the drakes/wyverns/wyrms (dragons!) popping at the most random places on the second run through. They're always good to fight but not when silly pawns decide not to buff me with the elements. Hey, yo, help me help you and buff me!

Absolutely HATE Strigois. So damn fast with the wing attack and they're just stupidly annoying.

Also, quicker way to beat the blue or red spirits? Never figured them out in vanilla either (and my pawn as a sorcerer dealt with them mostly).

Might switch my pawn back to Strider or Mage/Sorcerer. She just isn't as good as a ranger for some reason. She also only climbs things when I do... use some initiative woman.

Has anyone had the bug where a piece of gear is Dragon Forged while defeating, say, a cyclops? I was out near Devilfire Cove moving towards the Drake and ended up fighting a Cyclops. After I beat him I was notified that my Leather Jacket was Dragon Forged. Then the Drake disappeared.

What's the real benefit of using Dragon Forged gear?

Basically makes it a 4-star upgrade. That and it looks snazzy for people who want to hire your pawn.

There is a bug where if you are near a Dragon and it flies away you may end up with Dragon Forged gear. It happened to me when I was fighting goblins and the drake flew nearby. Suddenly I had my armor and weapon Dragon Forged.

Dragon Forged is the fourth stage of gear enhancement. Before Dark Arisen, it was the final stage. Now Dragon Forged gear can be Rarified by Barroch on Bitterblack Isle an additional two levels, silver and gold.

Yay found a fourth teleport stone in witchwood during the final? witch quest.

Pro tip for other new players: You can get rid of the map obscuring fog in witchwood by finding and destroying charms.
I randomly found one hanging from a tree near the path and it removed the fog from a large part of witchwood.

edit: they give off a white glow in the dark, so if you go to witchwood during the night it makes them easy to find.

ugh, switched to warrior to DF weapons and now i feel like i'm cracking skulls. the downside is that i'm dying to one hit kills way too often now.

those wakestones don't last forever.
